Triple Outfit Catch-Up: Work Familiars: Eyes Without a Face at the Belfry; Mom-Day at Rithet's Bog in Blossoms, and a Wee Shop

Hello, my friends - did ya miss me? The theatre gang had a very long production to sit through at the Belfry on Wednesday night, which meant no blogging that night, followed by a day chilling out with Mom.

Anyway, I have a bit of a catch-up, so let's start with the work outfit. Nothing new at all here, just playing with stuff in my wardrobe.
All of these pieces are treasures.

  • Jacket - Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, consignment; last worn here in August 2023 with blues and greys
  • Top - M by Missoni, thrifted; last worn here in February at Ross Bay Cemetery with Mom
  • Skirt - Diane Von Furstenberg, thrifted; last seen here in October 2023 with an optical forest top
  • Shoes - Sam Edelman, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in June 2023 with a floral dress

It felt like the weather might finally be turning to warm-ish.
The waning moon and the spire and roof of the Castle.

My work days are busy, and the day flew by.
Many admired my colour, the skirt - it's wool! - and the brooch on the jacket.

This sparkly top is an old WIN Boutique find from a few years ago.
It's from M by Missoni, their slightly cheaper line.

The skirt is by DVF - it's lovely and stretchy and I adore the side slits.
The jacket and all its tucks and angles is Vivienne Westwood.

All my familiar friends.
I took the jacket off when I overheated briefly in the morning.

I added a few accoutrements instead of outerwear.
I hopped a bus home to carve out 15 extra minutes after work.

Accoutrements:
I was glad of these - the wind is still chilly.

  • Scarf - Missoni for Target, consignment
  • Gloves - thrifted

More Missoni!

The stuff:
These have to be the same season as my recently-thrifted black Sam Edelman flats. I love the pink suede.

Silvery bling:
I picked up the brooch at a vintage fair years ago for a dollar.

  • Belt - B-Lo the Belt, thrifted
  • Brooch - vintage fair
  • Bracelet with purple stones - Malta, vintage mall
  • Crystal heart bracelet - Juicy Couture, consignment
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Crystal earrings - thrifted, Seattle

I needed the 15 minutes to feed Vizzini, change outfits, take pictures and walk down to the Fernwood Inn for a 5:30 dinner reservation.
I did a variation of the first time I wore this dress, changing up the boots and accessories.

  • Dress - Little Moon, consignment; first seen here (2nd outfit) in March for brunch
  • Boots - Rockport, thrifted; last seen here in October 2023 with corduroy
  • Leather coat (below) - Eileen Fisher, thrifted; first worn here in March with turquoise and cowboy boots

Our play was "The Lehman Trilogy" (link here, 'cause I love) which was 3 hours and 30 minutes long.
Yes, you read that right! There were two 15 minute intermissions, but still.

Gotta wear something comfy!
Jammy dress to the rescue! It's the Eyes Without a Face dress, so named because of all the...eyes...on it.

Nancy, Cat, Yvonne, Randall and I enjoyed a fun dinner, then had the full theatre experience.
We all nibbled chocolate-covered almonds, gummies and Mentos to keep ourselves awake.

It was a good show, don't get me wrong, but that's a long loooooonnnnngggg time to sit through a play!
There were people who did fall asleep!

However, the play was excellent - so much dialogue! It was a masterful job by the three actors.
Back to outfit commentary, ha ha - I liked wearing this leather jacket as outerwear. It was so soft!

The stuff:
These boots are only a one-inch heel - no issues walking down to the pub.

Coppery bling:
This little purse held all my candy.

  • Purse - Day & Mood, thrifted
  • Copper/enamel cuff - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Copper/enamel cuff - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Shiny copper rings x 2 - local
  • Necklace/earring set - DZinz, vintage, consignment; purchased here for $25.00
  • Copper/enamel ring - vintage 60s, consignment

I took a couple of pics on the walk to the pub.
This corner is up for redevelopment - this house is over 100 years old. I'll miss all this.

Victoria High School aka Vic High, is open again after its remediation.
Our old Ultimate Frisbee field has been restored but is no longer sunken.

Randall dropped me off afterwards, and I fell into bed almost immediately. I was so happy to have a Mom-Day - I'm sure Cat, Nancy, Yvonne and Randall were feeling the late night!
More playing in my closet and wearing some of my favourite pieces, like this blossom skirt.

  • Jacket - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in June 2023 with a pouf and lemon Docs
  • Shirt - Denver Hays, consignment; last seen here in March with my fin skirt and jungle blazer
  • Skirt - BCBG Max Azria, consignment; last worn here in May 2023 with pink and green
  • Sneakers - Converse, consignment; last seen here a week ago in April for the Katie Pruitt concert

I've done almost this exact outfit before (pic here), a couple of years ago, when L and I visited Mom for Mother's Day.
It's a combination that's stood the test of time!

I adore this skirt - isn't it lovely? Swoosh Factor 11!
The sleeveless shirt and jacket get worn together a lot too.

I looked like this while I had a browse in the WIN Boutique on the way home.
Blue, pink and bright lime green is such a good mix.

Incognito.
Showing off my sequined sneakers.

Accoutrements:
I wanted to use my lime purse, but it's too small for my phone.

  • Purse - Danier Leather, thrifted
  • Scarf - Smoking Lily, vintage 90s, consignment

The stuff:
These shoes are becoming basics in my closet! I was worried they might snag the skirt, but they did not.

Blue bling:
The brooch was on the pocket of the jacket.

  • Rhinestone cuff - Swarovski, consignment, gift from L
  • Filigree cuff - St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop, London
  • Brooch - vintage 50s, vintage fair
  • Fulvia Ring, lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Crystal necklace/earrings - Sherman, vintage 50s, thrifted

Mom and I went to Rithet's Bog, last visited here on Mom's birthday, May 2023.
We have birthday plans for next week, in fact.

I had to do a full shot of Mom's 'fit.
Looking foxy in your pink leather, rose-print top, and wide-legged Boss Pants, plus pink sneakers. What? You don't have matching poles? (*wink*)

Mom is preparing for an art show in the next couple of weeks, with her group.
These are original oil (the landscapes) and acrylic (the flowers) tiny stretch canvases.

Mom uses metallic plains on the flowers to make them shimmer.
She'll be selling these sitting on tiny easels as well.

The centre of this sunflower is copper!
Show and Tell is my favourite game!

We arrived to a gorgeous blue sky - the temps were up in the 15-17 range.
We wandered that path and back, enjoying the beautiful day.

Aw, I hope this person gets their glove back.
That is the cutest bunny glove!

Fields of daisies, and boggy areas.
The sign is warning you not to stray off the path - some of that green is not solid.

Garry Oak, looking gnarly.
I've been sneezing all week from the pollen.

An inviting path.
The sun felt so good.

This cairn says that Rithet's Bog was donated by the Guinness Family - yes, the Dublin Guinness family!
You can read about the Bog here

Red wing blackbirds were everywhere - their call is so distinctive.
Swallows swooped around us, and chickadees hopped around on the path.

A couple of Canada geese were loitering up ahead.
We were going slowly, so they let us get quite close.

We sat on the bench and watched Bird Drama for a while.
Lots of mallards lurking around a paired couple, these two geese getting in the way, and blackbirds serenading their lady-loves.

See these two?
They were just chilling out, enjoying the sun.

And then these dudes moved in.
The nearer one came out on shore and gave me the eye.

It's always a challenge photographing birds. They're quick!
This red wing blackbird is looking right at me!

A giant poplar tree.
Cotton fluffs were in the air.

The bulrushes were starting to fluff as well.
Another red wing blackbirds lurking in the stems.

A chickadee chirping at me.
It might have been the same one...

...as this fellow, on the roof of the house.
We saw him pass some twigs inside - the female must be building her nest.

And back to the car - time for lunch.
That field of daisies beckoned.

"Mom, take my picture!"
There is always time to just soak it all in.

We went to Floyd's for lunch.
Mom's necklace is strung with vintage beads. Looking so elegant, Mom - I love you!

We both admired the Thought Of The Day:
Entirely true!

I found a few things at the WIN Boutique. This top is in the trendy peach colour that is all the rage with the kids.
Looks like a faded roadkill pattern to me, tee hee.

A bit more on the upper back.
It's very shiny and felt like silk.

Yup, it IS silk!
And made in Germany!

Marc Cain for $14.95?
There was recently a plain version similar on their site for $250.00.

I fell in love with this denim vest.
I already have a denim vest (this acid-wash studded version here), but this one's totally different.

In addition to the ragged edges (love) and the artsy fading...
It has a lace back! It's a nice substantial lace too, not cheap-feeling.

It's by Lola Jeans.
Vests by them are $100, so my $14.95 looks pretty good.

I am always on the lookout for slips to wear under my clothes.
I actually recognized this as I have the matching bra.

It's by Wacoal, an insanely expensive line of lingerie.
I know that $14.95 is a deal, and I'll wear this a lot.

This is...just a black t-shirt with a small hard-to-discern print on it.
But when I had a closer look...

Those are little birds, plants and some very fanciful animals!
I see an elephant, a unicorn, a deer, a camel, a lion, a sheep and a horse.

I know Uniqlo.
But this is the name that caught my eye.

Celia Birtwell is mostly known for her partnership and work designing prints for British designer Ossie Clark in the 1960s/70s (Wiki here). She first collaborated with Uniqlo in 2013 and did two collections with them.
This print is a version of her famous "Animal Solo" which is in the Victoria & Albert Museum (here). Not bad for $9.95.

I did well in the hosiery section, snapping up a pair of mismatched Solmate socks (retail $29.95, for me, $2.95), a pair of popcorn-themed Hotsocks (retail $15.99, $4.95 for me), 3 pairs of knee-highs for 95 cents a pair, a set of mini-footies for $1.95, and pair of nylons for $1.95.
I didn't realize until I got home that the David Sedaris is a "best of" but it was only $4.95.

And now, I'm signing off for the weekend! Come on, Vizzini, let's go have a cuddle.
He's always up for being carried around these days.

Have a great weekend, Gentle Reader! Please do pop back in on Sunday for tales of adventure!

  4. Oh I'm in love with 2 outfits! Vivienne Westwood and Diane von Furstenberg in one look! Perfection for me. And that long skirt with the sneakers, would want to wear it like that. Love your mother's artwork. My sister paints too and also has used those tiny easles. So cute.

  5. Much as I love Friday's outfit - swooning over the Missoni scarf! - and the Swoosh Factor 11 skirt, my favourite is your theatre-going one. I'd wear that one in a heartbeat - although it wouldn't even look half as fab on me as it does on you!
3 hours and 30 minutes in a theatre though ... I'm unable to sit still for that long :-)
Thank you for sharing those Springtime photos of your Mom day adventure! xxx

  6. So many beautiful outfits!
I love the midi wool skirt and those pointy pink shoes...they make me think of Barbie shoes.
The maxi outfit is awesome as well.

  7. What a fabulous post!
Thank you for the architecture photos. My eagle eye spotted a painted telegraph post. What a great idea! Wow! Your high schools are big!
Loved tagging along on your Mom day. The red wing blackbird is beautiful, the photo of you amongst the flowers is fantastic and I wholeheartedly agree with the thought of the day.
Well done on your finds. Celia Birtwell collaborated with Topshop a while ago. I had no clue that she had collaborated with Uniqlo. x
