Bigass Long Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Banksy Matchy; Tiki Brunch and a Wee Shop; Weird Adidas and the Party Boy; Velour Brunch and Hood Cats

Woo, long weekend! I have lots of fun outfits ahead, including Nick's 65th birthday party, plus a Saanich peninsula with L, so get settled and enjoy.

I knew it would be dead in the office on Friday, so I debuted my Banksy t-shirt. I couldn't wait!
And yes, of course I wore it with my new magenta earrings...and then I realized I had matching shoes.

  • T-shirt - Banksy 2005 exhibit merch, consignment; purchased here yesterday for $38.00
  • Jeans - Scotch & Soda, thrifted; last worn here in May for a Mom-Day at home
  • Shoes - Enneagram Individualist, Fluevog; last seen here (5th outfit) in August 2024 with my vintage "bubble" dress
  • Jacket (below) - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in March in my first outfit of the season, with my chevron skirt

I faffed around, trying to find the right jacket for this tee, and none of them quite landed for me.
So I wore just the tee all day in the office.

I ended up with this studded vintage D&G jacket.
The blue was right, but it made the tee feel overly bulky, but it was good enough for brief sun coverage.

I still love it, missing studs and all.
I'm wearing black stretchy Scotch & Soda jeans, with the bottoms turned up high to show off my socks and sandals.

Incognito.
This is how the world saw me.

The stuff:
That's a very comfortable heel - I walked to and from work in these.

  • Belt - Lady Foot Locker, vintage 80s, thrifted

Big bling:
I picked up a few things on the way home - one of the clerks admired my earrings and then noticed my matchy pinks.

  • Studded leather cuff - vintage 90s
  • Silver mesh bracelet - consignment, Sidney
  • Pin - AGGV Urbanite "Art Soup" swag
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Magenta hoop earrings - thrifted; purchased here for $2.00

"When in doubt, go matchy," I said.

We met up with Nick and Casey for lunch at John's Place on Saturday morning - no Ulti on the long weekend.
It's finally warm enough to wear some of my summer dresses! This one reminds me of tiki patterns.

  • Cotton dress - Malia, Hawaiian-made, vintage 70s, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in July 2024
  • Sandals - Via Spiga, consignment; last worn here in July with cerise and a shrug

As with so many of them, I only usually manage one wearing per season.
I like that it's Hawaiian without looking touristy.

Not great for trying things on - because of course, I had a wee shop after brunch - but I managed.
The only way off is a million buttons down the front.

Incognito.
Ready to enjoy a bit of "me" time.

The stuff:
This was my first wearing of these silver sandals for a shop - they were excellent, no rubbing, even after walking several blocks.

  • Purse - Roots 73, thrifted

Bold bling:
I sunblocked up my arms. Yuck.

  • Steel cuff - Lakeland Art Metal Works, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Black and white bangles - consignment
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Earrings - West Germany, vintage 80s, vintage fair

Long weekends are always about being with our Chosen Family!
Good to see you, Nick and Casey!

After brunch, I had a poke around at WIN, then ventured further into town.
This cool tie caught my eye. It was $4.95.

It's FX by Hy.
You can tell it's 1980s simply by the design and colours!

I really liked the colours in this mesh top.
The body is lined in black, but the sleeves are sheer - they are also ruched near the cuffs.

It's by Calvin Klein.
$14.95 seemed okay. This will go with loads of stuff in my closet.

This velour dress made me gasp.  Such a classic mid-to-late 90s shape!
The colour is a true red, even though it looks more burgundy above due to the wavy pattern pressed into the velour.

It has bra-strap holders!
Always a mark of quality.

This entire dress feels/seems to have never been worn. Every label and ribbon is crisp and new.
Made in Canada! That's a very early CA number, and it's a match for...

Algo! I remember this being a chi-chi brand sold at Eaton's back in the 90s. It probably sold for close to $100 back in the day.
I was happy at $24.95 but when it was rung in it turned out that all dresses were 30% off! It was $16.50.

As I was moving to the checkout, I spied this bright green velour skirt on a stock rack.
Yoink! Mine now!

Ah, I see it's from Holiday 2020, a notoriously weird time from a weird year.
It's the Velvet Slip Skirt in Lucky Green. It also came in pink and black, and with matching buttoned shirts.

It was $16.95.
I like it! I know, I keep buying velvet even though Velvet Rage is out there. I promise I will remember to dress appropriately to avoid it.

I stopped in at the Fluevog store to check out some boots I'd been eyeing, but they were shorter in the leg than I wanted. I stalk the new styles, while I dream about shoe gift cards for my birthday in the fall.
I did pick up this 3-pack of ruffled socks.

I like that when you stretch out the body, a different colour appears.
They also say "Unique soul" on the sole.

Regular price was $50.00.
On sale for $24.99!

I had a poke in Vintage After Death, plus Flavour Upstairs, but nothing really grabbed me. From there, I strolled over to Upcycle, where these lavender patent creepers SCREAMED my name.
They aren't real leather, unfortunately, but still! Aren't they magnificent?

They're by Call It Spring.
Note the little black pyramid studs. These remind me of "creeper" styles.

Not a bit of wear on them!
And only $60? Yes!

I tried a few things on, and then after having no luck, I noticed this Noisy May contemporary mesh top on the put-back rack.
Just waiting there for me! This was $30.00.

Of course, they are the exact same colour!
Expect these to be worn together a LOT.

I spent the later afternoon, poking around in my closet, building an outfit for Nick's 65th birthday that night at Greg and Rosanna's place.
Casey had called on all of us to send pictures of Nick so he could make up t-shirts. This "Party Boy" picture is from our Urbanite adventures (picture of Nick here). T-shirts were dropped off in time for us to get dressed.

  • T-shirt - Part Boy, gift from Casey
  • Nylon dress - Adidas, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in August 2024 for a long weekend hangout
  • Cropped trousers - Akris Punto, consignment; last seen here in May for the delayed Star Wars Day
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last worn here in July with grey, black and pink leopard

Instead of Kes surveying the neighbourhood when I did my Stair Pic, I had Zsa Zsa's company.
I love all these tuxies, such a cute cat! She also looked unhappy to see me, however.

I wasn't sure if I should wear the t-shirt, but figured, what the heck! Why not? But how to wear it? I had my big Weird Adidas dress paired up in my closet with these windowpane plaid pants for a future wacky outfit.
I customized my tee by removing the neckline and cutting about 6 inches off the bottom to make it cropped.

I pulled out the dress' sleeves and folded them over to make a puffy shape shape like an antique leg-o-mutton sleeve or some such.
I put the elastic of the dress' skirt at my waist and belted it for definition.

The pants have ginormous pockets, so I carried my phone in those.
The rest of my things were in my tiny mesh purse.

The stuff:
My friends don't see my "work shoes" and were shocked at how old these ones are (2018).

  • Belt - gift from Ruth

Sparkly bling:
I matched the image on the tee with my own double-strand of pearls (not real), and a long chain of real crystal beads.

  • Purse - gift from Megan Mae
  • Crystal necklace - thrifted, Vancouver
  • Pearl/crystal clasp necklace - vintage 80s, Grandma J's
  • Carved quartz bangle - consignment
  • Steel/stone bracelet - Malta, vintage mall
  • Earrings - vintage, c. 1996
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall

I was showing Lily the mesh bag at the party, and she mentioned that the figures on the top reminded her of Korean "grandpa" figures called Dol Hareubang. I took a pic of her phone's screen with the bag cap.
That's so cool! Most of the similar purses I spotted online are attributed to Whiting & Davis, but this one has no tags. Bags like this are called "gate tops" (interesting history article here, all links 'cause I love). Mine has a synthetic white nylon lining, and the metal isn't high quality. Maybe 1970s? Maybe Korean?

Cat and Ross made up "The Funky Mancunian 1960" buttons with a picture of James Brown (Nick's a big funk fan, and is from Manchester, UK).
I wore mine pinned over the button on the image of Nick. You might spot it in the below pics.

And now, lots of pictures! Thanks to Randall and Rosanna for sending theirs, and to Katya for taking the group shots on my phone!
It was still sunny when we got there. Nick didn't notice that L and I and Casey had matching shirts on! From left: Nick, Zeb, Steven and Greg.

And then Yvonne, Randall, Ali (and Chris, Cat and Ross) all arrived. Chris and Ali coloured their image of Nick - the sunnies and his necklace in the pic.
And this is the moment Nick realized that we were all wearing pictures of him!

Enjoy the salami sombreros.
Delicious fresh blackberries and figs! Yum!

Yvonne, Linda and L - a late night pic.
Rockin' in the kitchen!

L, Meika, Yvonne and Shema.
Yvonne did "Flashdance" and customized her tee by chopping out the neckline and sleeves.

Aw, big hugs!
Vero, Yvonne and Linda. I love my fam too!

And then...Group Photo time! All the Party Boy tees assemble in the living room!
Katya shouted directions for us. "Be sad!"

"Now, look annoyed!" From left: back row: Rosanna, Cat, me, L, Randall, Ali, Chris, Zeb, Greg.
From left, front row: Yvonne (not getting the memo), Casey (laughing), Nick and Ross, whose expression doesn't change at all in any of the pics, ha ha.

"Be happy!"
Go, Cat, go!

I don't remember what this is supposed to be!
But we're all laughing!

I believe this one is "Be sexy!" Note my duck-face.
I think this is my favourite.

After this pic of Cat, Rosanna, me and Yvonne with Nick.
A very Happy Birthday, honey! We love you so much!

After a quiet Sunday morning, L and I strolled down to Shine Café for breakfast, and picked up a few groceries.
I do believe I'll wear my new velour skirt! And a pair of my new socks, too!

  • Vest - Religion, consignment; last seen here in May over my Halston dress
  • Top - Clover Canyon, thrifted; last worn here in October 2024 with my pumpkin suit (now in Limbo)
  • Skirt - Gap, thrifted; purchased above for $16.95
  • Sandals - Doc Martens, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) in July for brunch

I dug out this digital optic print top.
It's an accordion.

I wore the vest instead of carrying a purse. It has four pockets!
It was also a bit hazy/overcast, and of course, windy!

Incognito.
It was nice to get outside and walk and talk.

The stuff:
I enjoyed the socks and sandals! The styling possibilities are endless.

  • Silver/malachite bangle - Mexican, thrifted, Sidney
  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Silver/green stone ring - thrifted
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Silver/malachite earrings - thrifted

I found a crow feather on the way.
After L reminded me of avian flu, I dropped it.

There was a little black kitty snoozing in her bed in this Victorian house's window.
Such a thoughtful little napping place.

This black and white boy eyed us from a basement window.
Hello! I see you!

And now, my friends, off to enjoy the last day of my weekend with L. I hope this was a fun read for you - thank you so much for being here.
