Neon Leopard and Chartreuse

Woo, I am officially on holiday now! I will enjoy a day or two on my own until L joins me on our annual June Week of Vacation.
I dressed for the occasion, plus Janet and I had rescheduled dinner for after work, so I like dressing up for her.

  • Bustier - 3.1 Philip Lim, thrifted; last worn here in February as part of my pirate outfit for the VFF Gala
  • Shirt - Rock & Republic, thrifted; last seen here in September 2023 with grey swirls and sequins
  • Trousers - Gorman, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) for Book Club in April 2023
  • Shoes - Fast Cards Mille Miglia, Fluevog; last seen here in September 2023 in an all-green outfit
  • Sleeveless coat (below) - Only, thrifted; last worn here in April

The office was quiet today, but the few of my colleagues there enjoyed my 'fit.
I did this chartreuse blouse + shoes + trousers combo last time I wore these pants (see above, the "last seen here" link), only with a satin duster over them.

I did like the addition of a block of black to help ground the neon blue/green/yellow of the leopard-print trousers, so I went with this lovely Philip Lim bustier.
I delighted in showing the "boob pockets" in the bustier to some of my coworkers. "I can put my phone in here!"

Janet and I enjoyed a couple of hours catching up - we've been friends since she was 12 and I was 13, so for nearly 45 years.
The time always flies.

Outerwear - no idea what it's going to do these days.
Sunny? Sure! Windy? Yes! Rain? Possibly!

The stuff:
I don't wear these green shoes very often as they are a little narrow in the toe, but I do love them. They're not as high as they look - there's a platform in the toe, so they are only a 2-inch heel.

  • Silicon bracelet - Materia Design, thrifted
  • Bangle - thrifted
  • Eelskin bangle - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Large turquoise/silver ring - Karen's
  • Small turquoise ring - Glee
  • Earrings - Mango's
  • Discs necklace - thrifted
  • Turquoise/silver pendant - Karen's

And...I'd put all the jewelry away before I realized I'd forgotten to photograph it. Ah, well.

I'll be popping in here and there over the next week and a half! Off to enjoy my first night of freedom!

Linen Firecrackers

I'm on a dress kick, brought on by looking at my massive rack of dresses and realizing I've barely worn 10% of them.
My annual showing of the Firecracker dress. It's a longtime favourite - I've had it for 6 years, and this is it's 9th wearing.

  • Dress - JG Hook, thrifted; last worn here a year ago in May 2023
  • Camisole - Mantles, vintage 90s, thrifted; not tracked
  • Shoes - Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last seen here in March with leopard, peach and buffalo
  • Leather jacket (below) - Elizabeth and James, consignment; last worn here in March with plaid and white bookends

It is - as advertised - linen, a gorgeous thick yet soft fabric.
The only downside to this Jammy Dress is that it lacks pockets.

It had many fans today.
I swooshed about the office, enjoying the weight and feel.

I still can't quite believe I only paid $28.95 for this.
There is no orange in the print (a light peach is the closest), but these orange shoes still work. Magic!

Outerwear - it was cold and rainy in the morning.
I hate carrying an umbrella.

So I tuck my hair into my beret and it stays dry.
Voila! I like shaking it out like a shampoo ad (no one sees me do this!).

Accoutrements:
None of which were needed by the time I left the office. It was sunny and warm, but windy.

  • Beret - consignment
  • Silk scarf - Halston, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

I walked home with my leather jacket open. It's spring!

The stuff:
These are the most comfy shoes - I had many compliments on them.

Rainbow bling:
After I picked out the dress, I realized this newly-thrifted choker would work perfectly.

  • Necklace - thrifted; purchased here for $10.95
  • Green stone bracelet - vintage, vintage mall
  • Red bracelet - vintage mall
  • Earrings - local
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Silver/kyanite ring - consignment

Red Jammy and Groovy Boots

Nothing new in today's 'fit - I suddenly realized I've been neglecting my dresses! I have so many of them - it really does take a lot of planning to wear them all at the appropriate time of the year.
While the weather's still a little cold, it's the perfect opportunity to pair these groovy boots with one of my red dresses.

  • Dress - Diane Von Furstenberg, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in October 2023 for a long weekend hangout
  • Boots - Warhol F-Trip, Fluevog; last seen here (3rd outfit) in March to go dancing in a sequin dress
  • Coat (below) - L'Atiste, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here here in April
I love the dark red stretch silk.
And I liked how that matched the dark red in the boots.

Which are a good match for my tri-colour necklace and earring set.
This outfit just created itself.

Surprises in the back.
Ink, snaps and black boots.

Incognito.
A dreary day, weather-wise, but not that bad overall.

Accoutrements:
This butterfly makes me happy.

  • Silk scarf - vintage, consignment
  • Gloves - consignment

The stuff:
Colleague Lesley stopped in her tracks to admire these gorgeous boots. I know, right?

Orange and gold bling:
All favourites.

  • Gold bangle - thrifted
  • Orange bangle - consignment, Sidney
  • Steel/Lucite ring - Calvin Klein, thrifted
  • Plastic ring - Italian, vintage 60s, vintage mall
  • Necklace/earrings - Robert Lee Morris, consignment, Vancouver

Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Flubbed Friday; Red, Black and White Brunch (and a 5-Minute Shop); Black and White Book Club

Welcome back, my friends! I hope you've had a lovely weekend.

I spaced on Friday morning - about 10 seconds after taking all of my pics, I popped out the camera battery to charge it, but caffeine-less me went on auto-pilot and deleted all my pictures first. I didn't realize I'd done this until I'd gotten home after shopping at Dots with coworker Zeudy and was already settled in my house-clothes and stripped off all my make-up.

D'oh!

It's all for the best, though, as I didn't end up liking the outfit much. If you want to imagine it, it's this t-shirt:
G-Star Raw thrifted for $9.95.

...and this skirt...
Faithfull the Brand, consignment

...and these shoes...
Steve Madden, thrifted

...with a bunch of copper jewelry, with this white leather jacket over it all.
The tee was too big and baggy (it's a men's), the skirt wrinkled like mad, and the jacket is too big to be worn as a light topper (it's better over thicker garments like sweaters or hoodies, as above). I'm letting go of the tee (I've offered it to L) and the skirt.

I was so frustrated and annoyed at myself for doing that - I've accidentally deleted my photos before, but I've had the energy to get dressed again and redo the photos...But, I'm going to not beat myself up for it, as it doesn't happen that often, maybe 3 or 4 times in 16+ years.

ANYWAY.

Moving on! I did take my lovely colleague Zeudy shopping at Dots and we found her two Jammy Dresses, which she was thrilled with (both were on sale), so that was a win. I enjoyed a quiet Friday evening to myself until L got home from dinner with one of his friends, and then we played music and games until we got dozy.

I was up early on Saturday morning to dye my hair. And when I've had a Bad Outfit Day previously, I always get back on that horse and do an outfit I know I will love and feel great in.
Like this one! I felt very me, very rock and roll.

  • Jacket - Smashed Lemon; last worn here solo here in September 2021 (same skirt!), last seen here in December 2023 with the matching jeans
  • Denim vest - Chiqle, thrifted; last worn here all weekend in Vancouver in April
  • T-shirt - Celia Birtwell X Uniqlo, thrifted; purchased here for $9.95
  • Skirt - Tatum & Olivia, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in April 2023 for another Saturday brunch
  • Boots - Stuart Weizmann, consignment; purchased here for $130.50

If I ever had to narrow down my closet, I would go with black, white and red as my colour palette.
Incorporating my new-to-me Celia Birtwell X Uniqlo thrifted tee and my OTK (over the knee) leather boots into an outfit.

This skirt is way too big on me - I have it safety-pinned on each side seam to pull it in, but it has zero stretch (100% silk), so I'm good with that.
All of those stripes are woven strips of fabric.

I love this red leopard denim blazer - I usually wear it with the matching jeans (because who doesn't love a red leopard denim suit??).
The boots were fabulous, although I might put some thin insoles in them to make them a bit comfier - they have plenty of room.

Without the blazer, which I took off while we had a delicious brunch at John's Place.
Deb, our regular server, thought I looked sexy in this.

Thanks, honey!
L said I was, "A bit of all right," (oh, damn me with faint praise).

All done up.
I had time for a 5-minute shop next door at the Beacon Ave Thrift Shop before L texted me that we'd been seated.

Incognito!
I didn't really need the sunnies, as it was blustery and cloudy. Brrr! Bring back the warm weather!

The stuff:
These boots stayed up well (the curse of elasticated and/or tall boots). Yay!

Silvery bling:
My little purse was stuffed with shopping bags - we did our weekly grocery shop after brunch due to me having Book Club on Sunday.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, thrifted
  • Enameled cuff - thrifted
  • Silver bangle - consignment
  • Silver/obsidian ring - consignment
  • Silver/red enamel ring - antique shop, Sidney
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Anneke & Lars silver ring - vintage mall
  • Celtic S pendant - gift from Mom & Dad, mid-90s
  • Silver earrings - consignment

I discovered a stash of buttons, so added these two to my blazer lapels.
Perogy Cat (link here, 'cause I love, and Gareth is a friend) in his litterbox, and an "F-This, F-That" from the Fluevog store (these are freebies, I always grab the new buttons).

I did have one spectacular find at the thrift shop:
I literally gasped when I saw it in with the ugly 90s floral dresses. It's a jumpsuit!

Lavender, hot pink and aqua crinkly inserts at the crossover front neckline.
The previous owner sewed a snap-fastener at the cleavage - very handy!

Ooh, that is one very old tag. The CA number points me to Linda Lingerie Manufacturing Ltd, of Montreal - this is meant as a "house-jumpsuit"...like a house-coat, only a jumpsuit.
Made in Canada! Bonus! It's the silkiest polyester jersey - it feels OLD.

It's by Oscar de la Renta, back when he only had two stores, in New York and Montreal. This is from sometime in the mid-70s to early 80s (I suspect the latter), based on the style and colours.
It was $38.50, which is rather pricey for a thrift store (the volunteer clerk was shocked at the tag), but for a vintage silky poly jumpsuit, I think you could add another 0 to that for resale.

To make it up to you, for missing my Friday 'fit, Gentle Reader, here's the jumpsuit on.
It has a tie at the front (no pockets, dagnabbit!), and it fits me perfectly. I think I have to wear it at least once, right?

After a relaxing evening of Arkham Horror (board game) and music, I was up early-ish to make Big Breakfast for L and I and then get ready to head to Yvonne's house for Book Club.
Time to wear some more of my new-to-me sporty/casual things.

  • Jacket - Dolce & Gabbana menswear, consignment; last worn here in April
  • T-shirt - thrifted; purchased here for $12.95
  • Trousers - G-Star Raw X Pharrell Williams, thrifted; purchased here NWT for $19.95
  • Sneakers - L'intervalle, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) to see Ice Cube in concert in April

I could wear this 'fit for a casual Friday at work, but it's fun to play with new things as I redefine my weekend style.
Black and white, my favourite go-to!

It was a chilly day - I walked to Yvonne's and home again.
This thin nylon jacket was just the right weight for the weather - there was a bit of spitty rain on my way there.

I loved the pants - they softened up over the afternoon, but they have no Lycra in them!
I do love a good houndstooth, don't you?

Without the jacket - I was glowy when I arrived and never needed to put it back on.
I like the cutoff-look of the sleeves of this soft tee.

The longer back is welcome.
No crack-a-lackin' here!

Incognito and ready for my walk.
Adding some bright colour in my accoutrements.

Speaking of...
Hot pink goes so well with black. I picked out the scarf first, and then went from there.

  • Purse - Michael Kors, consignment
  • Hat - Delux, Saanich Fair, c. 2008
  • Silk scarf - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - thrifted

I walked briskly both ways and was toasty warm.

The stuff:
Comfy shoes for 40 minutes of walking.

  • Belt - gift from Ruth
  • Studded leather cuff - vintage 90s
  • Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment
  • Anneke & Lars silver ring - vintage mall
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment

And now, off to spend the waning weekend hours with my two favourite beings.
Looks like some cuddling is going on here!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
