I had fun playing around in my closet in the morning, pairing up this new-to-me leopard-print blazer with my paprika pouf skirt.
Today is World Mental Health Day, a good reminder to take action to do what makes your brain go, "Ahhh...I need to do that more." Playing in my closet is so soothing for me.
We're still having warm enough temps that I can get away with wearing a blazer as outerwear.
And because this is a VELVET blazer, I prefer to wear it now to avoid future Velvet Rage. No coat will work over a velvet blazer, telling you that now, my friends. This ginormous paprika pouf skirt is thick cotton, so also runs the risk of creeping up tights and clothes. I wore a vintage slip under it to prevent Cotton Rage.
I love the fitted cut of the blazer, but it's hard to see the pattern - it's a very dark black on brown.
Done up, it has a corset-y vibe (a vibe I am always in for).
Two nice splits at the back to work over a giant skirt.
Without the jacket to show my new-to-me thrifted top. Nothing fancy here, just a good quality sleeveless black turtleneck for layering under pretty much everything. I was glad I had this on as it was a much warmer day than expected.
As I took my pics I was grumbling about lack of pockets in the skirt...completely forgetting that it has massive ones! I stored my sunglasses/glasses and my phone in them. Done up. After lunch, I had a wee wander down Oak Bay Avenue.
Not a major shop, just looking around. I only bought one thing - and it's something I went back for.

Scarf tied up.
It was cold in the shade, but I soon got warm walking in the sun (I'm a fast walker).
Accoutrements:
When I spotted this scarf in my collection (after a good swishing around in the boxes for colours), I knew it was perfect. I love the crowns and golden horses. - Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
- Scarf - Daniel La Foret, vintage mall, gift from L
- Wool gloves - Parkhurst
The stuff:
Tall boots! I walked home from the Oak Bay Beach Hotel in these. Brass bling:
Featuring Mom's horoscope necklace, a gift from my dad to her in the early 70s, likely purchased at the Mexican Gift Shop which used to be on Douglas Street.
Mom matched the table flowers so nicely.
Looking very Chanel in her pale pink sweater. The necklace is made from 100+ year old beads, old family ones. Mount Baker is hiding behind those clouds in the middle.
We'll have to suffer with this miserable view, hee hee.
We all shared the cheesecake with berry coulis.
Bonus birthday macarons, aw! I found enough room for these. The green was pistachio; the pink was berry.
Thanks for taking my picture, Mom!
And thank you for buying lunch! I love you! By the time we left, Mt. Baker was visible.
I walked along the water to Oak Bay Avenue, popping into House of Savoy to say hi.
I was on a mission, though - to Pocket Clothing! This black lace dress had been stuck in my mind from last week's Wee Shop and I went back for it.
When a piece haunts me like that, I know I have to have it. I'd put it back last week due to a small snag on the front, plus...what does one wear under it? It's completely sheer! It has no tags, but it does have a zipper in the back and the lace is in long wide panels.
The seams are done well and it has good weight to it - it's a full swooshy skirt with a very deep V front.

I was in luck - not only was it still in the store but it was marked down! I'd made my peace with it being gone, but that was a relief.
This Gothic lace dress was $60.00, marked down from $76 and $68. Done!

And now, my friends, I'm signing off the long weekend. It's Thanksgiving in Canada, and I'm thankful for every one of you for visiting, reading and commenting. Have an awesome weekend and pop by on Monday for tales of adventure.
The perfect birthday outfit filled with Sheila vibes! I made oooing and ahhing sounds at seeing the two back slits so perfectly placed, the gorgeous and perfectly proportioned skirt, and the perfect overall ensemble. There’s a lot of perfection here! Truly, though, that’s the way to celebrate oneself on one’s birthday. :)
ReplyDeleteSpecial to have your Uncle Brian there to be part of the lunch festivities. Hi Helen! Am chuckling at Mt Baker playing peek-a-boo. The first time I saw Mt Rainier from Olympia, WA I looked up just moments later and it was completely gone as if someone had taken a giant eraser to it, surprising the heck out of me. You wouldn’t have known it was there in the distance, just like Mt Baker. (I live in a relatively flat part of NY near the water. Mountains, no way unless you travel some 4-5 hours north to the Adirondacks, and those are considered tiny compared to PNW mountains!)
The long black lace dress is most intriguing. I envision a full red body slip underneath!
Here’s to birthdays and being thankful for the joys in life!
Cheers, Laurie
Aw, thank you so much, Laurie! The velvet jacket is such a nice quality piece, isn't it? Such good detail!
DeleteYes, great to have Brian with us to celebrate and enjoy the day. It's so odd how the mountains just disappear here! Mt. Rainier is spectacular on a clear day, but usually not visible from Victoria (but when we fly to Van, we can see it to the south).
I have to play around in my closet and see what I can layer with that dress.
Hooray for birthdays! <3
The celebrations continue! Lovely to see Uncle Brian and your fabulous Mum and of course you, resplendent in your gorgeous red skirt! Have a fantastic long weekend, my dear friend! xxx
ReplyDeleteOf course! Birthday month has only begun! Thank you, dear Vix!
DeleteHappy birthday to your mum! Love family birthday get togethers - hi Sheila's mum and Uncle Brian! Your outfit reminded me of Victorian costumes; maybe it was the corset like silhouette of the fab velvet blazer? The lace dress is gorgeous; you'll need a full length slip/petticoat under that...
ReplyDeletexxx
It's MY birthday, not my mum's, Vronni. :) Mom's is in May. Thanks so much! Yes, must rummage through my underthings and see what I can find for that dress!
DeleteUncle Brian has a great set of teeth, perfect for smiles!
ReplyDeleteYup, good teeth in the family!
DeleteI'm absolutely loving your birthday lunch outfit. The skirt in particular is a stunner. Fancy forgetting about its massive pockets! How lovely that Uncle Brian was still in town for your birthday, which must have made it extra special. Intrigued about the lace dress you went back for ... xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Ann! <3 I know, how did I possibly forget it had pockets!? It was really great having him there.
DeleteI'll be wearing the dress for our Hallowe'en/birthday party this weekend!
What a gorgeous skirt! The blazer is perfect on it. Can't wait to see you on the lace dress. It's a real Morticia one, love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Nancy! Yes, very Morticia! I need to figure out a lining for it...
DeleteHappy birthday month!
ReplyDeleteI agree that shopping and playing in our closets can be therapeutic.
I love your bordo dramatic skirt and how you styled it.
Fancy and fashion forward, just the kind of outfits one remembers and reflects fondly on.
Your birthday lunch look is fantastic!
I love the photo that your mother took of you...such a pretty smile you have! And very cool tattoos.
It seems you had a blast with your mother and Uncle Brian...who looks like he's having tons of fun, too.
Have a great week ahead!
It's definitely birthday month, Ivana! Thank you!
DeletePlaying in my closet is one of the best things I do for my mental health. I need to do it more!
Thanks so much, I liked that outfit...and the photo Mom took (on my phone, no less!).
That cheesecake looks delish!
ReplyDeleteI'm envious of your flouncy, puffy skirt collection and that black lace dress is a stunner. I'm not sure why they tend to make these things without any kind of lining, but I'm sure you'll make it work somehow!
It was...the little I had of it! I was stuffed from lunch anyway. :)
DeleteI love big pouffy skirts - they have not gotten "old" for me!
I'm sure that dress had a lining when it was originally sold. I have a couple of options, but it's still going to be rather sexy!
You look fabulous. The skirt is beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hena!
