The Red Leopard Denim Suit

Today's outfit was inspired by Sita over on Substack (her page is here, if you're Substack-curious, linking 'cause I love, as always), who wanted to see my version of jeans.

I don't actually own a pair of classic blue denim jeans - but I do have neon green barrel jeans (these here) and I have the acme of denim:
Red leopard!

  • Blazer/pants - Smashed Lemon; last worn here (2nd outfit) in July for a visit with Betty and hangout with pals
  • Wool sweater - John Varvatos 2014, consignment; purchased here for $24.00
  • Shoes - Asos, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) on the weekend for brunch
  • Sleeveless coat - Only, thrifted; last worn here in September

I've had this suit since the summer of 2020, and this is my 10th wearing of it as a full suit.
I've styled the pants and jacket separately a bunch of times as well.

I would never have guessed that a red leopard suit would be this useful.
It helps that both the jacket and the pants have two enormous pockets each.

It's a mid-weight stretch denim, so it's very comfortable for running around.
We had pizza at the office today for a big annual corporate meeting "watch party," which I set up and cleaned up afterwards.

It was lovely seeing all of my colleagues - they are mostly used to how I dress, but this glorious suit wowed a few.
I layered my new-to-me John Varvatos wool/acrylic sweater - it's very thin so I wore a camisole under it.

Completely forgetting that - duh, it's menswear! Of course it's not see-through! Only women get see-through sweaters.
Showing off the leather patches on the elbows - a thoughtful detail. They're even real leather!

Incognito. This sleeveless coat is handy this time of year.
It was cold in the morning and sunny on the way home. I stripped off the gloves...then the scarf...then opened it up (it is a wrap, no buttons).

Accoutrements:
I love this scarf. I'm sure I've worn it a thousand times.

  • Scarf - MetroWear, San Francisco, 2006
  • Velour gloves - Thinsulate, thrifted

The stuff:
Deja shoes! I just wore these on the weekend, but I wanted to wear them again with the suit.

Black bling:
The snake and cat brooches were worn on my suit jacket lapel.

  • Belt - gift from Ruth
  • Snake brooch - c. 1096, gift from Mom & Dad
  • Wooden cat brooch - consignment
  • Studded leather cuff - c. 1996
  • Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Silver/obsidian ring - consignment
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Silver/obsidian ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Porcelain earrings - Winnie Tam

  3. This is one of those perfect outfits! Every piece fits comfortably, there are pockets, all accessories provide just the right amount of umph, and it’s a nice combination of classic, funky and professional. I bet the shoes were just right for the prepping and clean up work. Like I said, one of those perfect outfit. :)

  5. No pierced ears in that junior high photo? Would it be safe to say tattoos weren't even on your radar? LOL
