Sweethearts Week: Red Swoosh, Studded Corduroy and Halston

Hello, and welcome back, my friends!

Mom-Update: Mom is doing great! She's been getting frequent visits, which we'll be dropping down to a few hours a day now that she's feeling more comfortable with her "new normal." I'm talking to her daily and she's set up with a tablet so she can follow my outfits from the comfort of her bed - hi, Mom!

This is going to be a theme week: Sweethearts Week! L and I don't really do Valentine's Day much, but I enjoy an excuse to get creative in my closet, so I'll be wearing pink, red and burgundy all this week, and appreciating all the sweet people in my life.
Even with an overcast sky, it's light enough to celebrate the return of the Stair Pics!

  • Corduroy vest - Black Sheep, consignment; last worn here in January with beetles and studs
  • Blouse - Halston III for JC Penney, vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in November 2024 under a black dress
  • Skirt - Marni, consignment; first worn here (2nd outfit) to Tony and Alison's party in January
  • Suede boots - Coach, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here in December 2025 with honeycomb
  • Mr. Darcy coat (below) - Handmade by Sheila, vintage, consignment; last worn here in November 2025

I wanted to get this Halston III blouse worn this season and liked how it went with the swooshy skirt.
There are kittens inspecting my backpack. Barnabas, get out of there!

I layered the corduroy studded vest over the blouse as it's very puffy. I forgot that the pockets in it are very shallow, and my phones were falling out constantly.
I put the "train" of the skirt in the back for these pictures, but I ended up moving it around to the side (like I did on the initial wearing).

Someone needed a cuddle.
"I meowed at you!"

Silly boy.

Incognito. I dragged the skirt through two blocks of construction before clueing in. Oops. It dried fine, though.
I clamped a giant bulldog clip on the front of it on the way home.

The stuff:
These boots make me happy. Studs!

  • Wool beret - Parkhurst, consignment
  • Leather gloves - Picabo, Powell River
  • Silk scarf - fake Louis (Lewis) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Rose stick-pin - Mango's
  • Brooch - Monet, thrifted, Sidney

Mixed bling:
Gee, the blue elastic on the belt is so Klassy!

  • Leather belt - Madewell, consignment
  • Silver/gold bracelet - vintage fair
  • Carved faux cinnabar bangle - consignment
  • Silver earrings - Chan Luu, consignment
  • Reversible necklace - Stella & Dot, thrifted
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Silver loopy ring - consignment, Sidney

  2. I'm way behind but sending get well wishes to your mum, Sheila!
I've only just realised it's Valentine's Day this week, like you and L we don't do anything special, just send silly cards.
Your outfits and the kittens are as gorgeous as ever! xxx

    1. All good, Vix, life comes first! We don't even do cards (but I'll be looking for cheap chocolate, ha ha).
The boys are growing so fast!

  3. Thanks for the frequent Mom updates. They're reassuring. Someone once said that older folks have one foot on a roller-skate and the other on a banana peel. Actually it's true that falls are the most common cause of injury for older people.

I use Valentine's Day as an excuse for many things, including fun clothes. And sending cards to friends. Hope your love-day is special.

    1. I'm glad they reassure you, Ally. Ha, that is a great quote. I know, that's why I work on my balance!
I totally agree - it's a time to show ourselves and the important people around us a bit of extra love.

  4. Hi Helen, just checking in with you and hoping you are having a good day. We had a snowstorm here in Ontario, I sometimes think Vancouver Island might be more appealing at this time of year!
Sheila, I love that blouse with the studded vest, boots and belt, and the skirt is a lovely colour to go with them. How come you didn't include the giant bulldog clip on the bling photo? 😄

  5. There’s something about this outfit that simply says comfortable to me, despite the vest pockets not being as functional as you would have liked. Maybe it’s the color and drape of the skirt or the fact that you’re wearing a vest or that it’s light enough (and warm enough!) to take a stair picture. Ah, to not have to wear a heavy sweater…can you tell I’m a tad tired of the cold!
Hi Helen! So glad to hear you are settling in and acclimating. By the way, when Sheila noted the expense of the home visits and your comment that you’re worth it, I meant to agree by stating what my Mom would have said: you’re darn tootin’ you’re worth it! :)
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. It was highly comfortable, Laurie! I adore the skirt! On the downside, I have thick sweaters which aren't getting worn (not to mention my mink coat) - it's been too warm.
      Mom is definitely worth it!

    2. Last weekend your mink would have been perfect in NY as it was -17 degrees C here!
Cheers from on this much warmer weekend, Laurie
