Mom-Day at Home in New Boots and Fuzzy Orange

Welcome back to Mom-Day, my friends! Mom is doing amazing, thank you all for your comments and well-wishes!
Sunshine outside, sunshine in our hearts! I love you, Mom!

I dressed for the weather, as it was VERY cold (for us!) at -1 to 3 degrees all day.
I built the outfit around this orange Muppet of a sweater - it's one of the ones I save for the REALLY cold days.

  • Sparkly turtleneck - Jacob, thrifted; last worn here in December 2025 with pink and yellow for Book Club
  • Muppet sweater - no label, thrifted; first seen here in March 2025 with my bark skirt
  • Wool skirt - Marc Cain, thrifted, Sidney; last worn here in November 2025 with orange velour
  • Leather boots - Jose Saenz, consignment; purchased here last weekend for $32.00 (thanks for buying it for me, L!)
  • Eclipse coat (below) - Welsh wool, vintage 60s, consignment; last seen here in December 2025

It was so snuggly warm, I was sure I would be sweating, but it was just right.
See the little ears and feet? Someone was "helping."

The sweater curves up on the sides - I pinned one side. See if you spot the big kilt pin!
Barnabas was a blur! This wool skirt goes great with orange.

I had to give that little boy a cuddle!
"I meowed at the Woman!"

What a cutie!

Incognito.
I deeply regretted not wearing a scarf. What was I thinking?

The stuff:
The boots occurred to me after the skirt and sweater. I bused to town and all the way home, but I needn't have worried - they were excellent.

  • Angora-blend hat - Picabo, vintage 90s, vintage fair
  • Black brooch - vintage, thrifted
  • Purse - no label, consignment
  • Enamel/silver/gold brooch (on purse) - de Pastille-Silvestre, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Leather/fur gloves - no label, thrifted

Pewter bling:
The knots in the necklace chain are on purpose - I do that to make it hang higher.

  • Pewter bracelets and necklace - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gifts from L
  • Earrings - marked but illegible, vintage mall
  • Volcano ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Hematite ring - thrifted (used to keep the volcano ring in place)
  • Square ring - thrifted

I love wearing the whole set together.
Oops, forgot this!

  • Kilt pin - c. 1956, Mom's

This was attached to one of the kilts I borrowed from Mom's closet back in the mid-80s when I was in high school.

I arrived to find the sheep (SHEEPS!) waiting for me.
"Oh, it's her again."

Where's the lamb?
"You may take our picture."

Very kind of you, ma'am.

Mom's garden views, as promised.
The lawn is mostly moss (Mom doesn't care).

Things do look green-ish.
I spy lots of little slivers of green leaves forcing themselves out of the dirt.
Not very interesting at the moment, but it'll be gorgeous in a month.

Snowdrops!
Those thick bundles of green look interesting.

They're all over!
Crocuses? Daffodils?

I spotted a purple crocus!
I see a very early tulip coming up at the top.

Mom was shocked that all these daffs were out.
Secret daffodils hiding behind the stairs.

Mom proudly showed me her new set-up for painting, until she can get back into her studio.
Looks amazing! Lots of natural light here too.

After some computer things (bank, groceries, taxes, insurance), we had a lovely hearty bowl of stew while we watched the Canada-US women's hockey (we lost, dang!). The washing machine repair guy came and proclaimed it well (phew!).
I headed back to the bus stop, as Mom was tired after all that excitement.

Bye, sheep!
That little lamb is getting big!

Speaking of animals getting larger...
"I'm a gargoyle!"

Yes, you are, Barnabas!

And what are you, Whateley?
"Furious. Stay home and cuddle me."

Oh, there will lots of that this weekend!

Thank you so much for being here, Gentle Reader! I'm signing off for the weekend now, but do pop in soon so that I can regale you with tales of adventure!

  2. I watched that game too, on the CBC, from the PNW. Was actually rooting for Canada (sssh) and was so sure you’d prevail. Ah well. Good game though. Olivia newer reader.
    Oh, especially love the boots!

  3. Hi Olivia (newer reader)! I had to say hello because I live in New York and, um, hush 🤫 I also was hoping for Canada 🇨🇦 to win…
Hi Helen, your sweater is a lovely shade of blue and in the wonderful selfie yours and Sheila’s sweaters were perfect together! As were the two of you❤️. We are agog that your garden has snowdrops but especially wowed that there were DAFFODILS! Arg, here we still have snow on the ground though much of it has melted. Alas, more snow is predicted for this Sunday into early Monday.
Sheila, Your outfit looks very cozy but my biggest appreciation is of how you matched the coat, hat, gloves and bag to the outfit. Doesn’t surprise me but nonetheless quite spiffy!
To your posing felines, you two have mastered the fine art of wooing us readers. 🐈‍⬛😽🐈 (Whateley, just imagine the stripes of the second cat emoji to be your colors.)
Happy weekend to all! Cheers, Laurie

  4. You are fortunate to be able to wear orange. It is one colour that doesn't work for me. Nice to see the new boots in use. So good to see your Mom and her great set up for art work. Helen, your garden is fabulous, and we also have moss that has taken over the grass and we love it. We even begged our snow plough guy to be careful not to scrape it when he does our driveway and pushes snow over there. It is so spongy and soft to walk on in the summer and I've even seen tiny fungi in a "fairy ring" on it at certain times of the year!

  5. I love that your mother is keeping up with her painting no matter what! That landscape looks gorgeous, too.

Great outfit as ever, but what caught my eye most was the brooch on the purse. What a fantastic idea!
