Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Wee Shop in Sweetums; Saturday Pillbox Brunch; Birthday Party in Grey and White SLEEVES

Hello, my friends, welcome back - did you have a good weekend? I'm sorry for not responding to comments - I'm just feeling a bit maxxed out, so please forgive me.

My weekend started with a Friday off! The office was undergoing an upgrade and I don't work from home, so I took a vacation day - and so did L, so we had lunch together.
It was cold and cloudy, so I layered up and wore some of my favourite things.

  • Upcycled jean jacket - Ricochetjackets, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in November 2025 for our Sidney thrift shop adventure
  • Sleeveless sparkle sweater - Jessica, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) a year ago in February 2025, layered under a tee (and this same jacket! and boots!)
  • Quilted skirt - Ilse Jacobsen, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) for the Botched pop-up sale in October 2025
  • Boots - Original Samedi, Fluevog, last seen here (2nd outfit) with my jellyfish skirt and Weird Adidas for brunch in January
  • Sweetums cape (below) - vintage 60s, consignment; last worn here in November 2025 for Mom-Day at Beaver Lake

I knew I'd mostly be walking around outside, and briefly indoors, so many layers would be needed.
This sparkly purple top doesn't get worn much, but it's a handy match for the boots - however, it is sleeveless so I layered a long-sleeved silk vintage thermal top underneath to keep my arms warm.

Love this jacket! So cool.
The quilted skirt is thick and warm, and has giant pockets, enabling me to skip a purse. I could access the pockets through the cape easily.

And here we are, Incognito and ready to walk to town.
Adding some darker purple (beret/scarf) and deep olive green to go with the plaid. This cape also has giant pockets, perfect for sunglasses, a couple of shopping bags and my phone.

The stuff:
These boots are perfectly broken in (I put sport insoles into them immediately after purchase) and sturdy for walking for many hours.

  • Wool beret - Parkhurst, thrifted
  • Wool gloves - Parkhurst
  • Copper brooches - all vintage 1950s/60s, all secondhand
  • Silk velvet fringed scarf - thrifted

A closer look at the brooches.
None of them are marked but they're all vintage from the 50s/60s. I know they were all secondhand, but the actual purchases (vintage store/fair vs. consignment) is a blurry memory.

Copper bling:
I really went to town on the copper - literally, ha!

  • Feather copper cuff - vintage 50s, thrifted
  • Copper rounded cuff - Renoir, vintage 50s, Grandma J's
  • Copper necklace/earrings - vintage 50s, Grandma J's
  • Copper/turquoise ring - vintage 50s, Grandma J's
  • Copper ball ring - vintage 50s, consignment

It's always nice to wear all of Grandma's copper - I've had the necklace/earring/cuff set since 1985.

Morning kittens.
Whateley was all warm from sleeping under the covers with me.

Barnabas was there too, but retreated to the post.
"I see a deer!"

That's a squirrel, sweet boy.

I popped into Dots to see if there was anything exciting in the newest arrivals of samples, and they happened to have LAVENDER men's suits by Matinique, a brand carried in some of the menswear boutiques in town. Their suits sell for $300-500 and up!
So I was very excited to find the blazer for $59.99 and the pants for $39.99. A hundred bucks for a perfectly-fitting lavender suit? It's a wool blend and so good! This isn't properly styled - L just tried it on for me when I got home.

I found another Soya Concepts mesh top for myself.
I really liked the marble print - it'll be a good layering neutral with all my black and white.

Recycled polyester.
Sure....

It was $19.99.
Retails for $75.00, so I'm happy with that.

From there, I browsed my way up Fort Street, and found this dress at the Velvet Crease.
It's a dark grey-ish black, with silvery-pewter trim. Unfortunately, the zippers aren't real pockets!

It has an S on the back!
And racing stripes down the sides!

I like the detail/pleating on the front.
That zipper pull is good quality - it's custom, with leather, indicating that this is a high-end piece. Not real pockets, though! Boo!

It has no label on it, but I found "Sportalm"'s website on the tag.
It's Sportalm Kitzbuhel (Kitzbuhel is a place in Austria), a company that's been around for over 70 years (link here 'cause I love).
The dress is called "Chamaleon" and is likely from somewhere around 2006-2010 when this style was the trend (it's a very Karen dress). Sportalm's dresses start at 179 Euros which is around $290 CAD - so my $45 was a bargain. I wonder how it got to Canada?? Maybe it's an old Dots sample.

I saw this jacket on a mannequin and after recovering from gasping, I asked Jacquie if I could remove it to look closer.
Oh my goodness! The pea-green colour!

The orange accents!
The white zipper and the green satin lining!

It's orange inside the pockets.
And green satin inside there too.

An inside zip pocket!
And I see you, leather tag, telling me this is "Genuine Lamb Leather."

The lining is viscose.
Better not wash it...

It's by Naturel, and it even has a nice leather hanger inside.
But what's that? Another zipper along the collar...?

But what about the hood?
Also lined in orange leather!

It unzips! It's removable!
You can wear it collar-less!

I found ANOTHER collar in one of the pockets!
Oh my goodness, how awesome is that? This collar doesn't stay zipped as well (it really wants to open up), so I'll likely stick with the hood option for the sportier vibe. This was $125.00 and worth every penny. I'd guess this is from the 90s or early 00s, based on the colours/style, and of course, Naturel reveals nothing/everything when I search.

Some houses/businesses that I walked by on my way to town.
Old Victorian-era houses.

A pot full of hyacinth and other flowers.
I was looking for joy!

Daffodils outside this business.
Another Victorian house - I think this one is a lawyers office?

L and I had a lovely evening playing boardgames and listening to music, and were up early to join Chris and Nick for brunch at John's Place on Saturday.
Getting in a seasonal wearing of this "Eyes Without a Face" dress.

  • Dress - Little Moon, consignment; last worn here in September 2025 with brown boots
  • Boots - 7th Heaven Mega Racer, Fluevog; last seen here in January with green pleated dress
  • Leather coat (below) - Tibor, vintage 80s, consignment; last worn here a couple of weeks ago

I layered a tank and shorts under it for extra warmth.
We woke up to cold and WINDY.

I love that this dress has pockets.
And it goes with these green Fluevog boots, which are NOT broken in yet fully (the heels are stiff). A brief jaunt for brunch is the right amount of walking/standing. Several small outings and then poof! one day they are perfect.

As usual, Barnabas was meowing and roly-poly-ing around while I took my pictures.
"I love you!"

He comes running when he hears the timer beeping. "MOWW!" his little meow squeaks.

See all the random eyes in the pattern?
Hence the name: Eyes Without a Face and yes, I do hum "Les yeux sans visage" a la Billy Idol whenever I wear it.

Outerwear!
I planned it around this green pillbox hat, which was crying to be worn, since pillbox hats are trending again after 40+ years.

Everything comes around!
Kitty-bombing...

The stuff:
I finally wore this beaded flapper purse - it's only been 7 years since I bought it...which tells me this was a poor purchase, and I should not be hanging onto it. Limbo!

  • Wool pillbox hat - Fairweather, vintage 1986-ish, gift from Mom & Dad
  • Crown/chain brooch - consignment; purchased here for $10.00
  • Beaded purse - the Bay, vintage 1950s, thrifted; purchased here in December 2019!! for $6.95
  • Leather gloves - Ralph Lauren, thrifted
  • Silk velvet/rabbit fur scarf - thrifted

To answer Bushlady's comment (hello! thank you!) - the brooch is most definitely NOT high-end. The Interwebz are full of them. It's "gold-tone."

Bad bling:
The stone/bone/brass bracelet annoyed the crap out of me, compounded when one of the pins worked its way out and it fell off. I thought I'd lost the pin, but found it in my big coat pocket when I got home. However, it doesn't sit right on my wrist (the stone follows gravity), and I don't LOVE it, so off to Limbo!

  • Bakelite bangle - consignment, Sidney
  • Bone/stone/brass bracelet - consignment
  • Metal bead necklace - Anne Klein, vintage 80s, Grandma J's
  • Amber rings - all consignment
  • Ear-balls - Dior, consignment
  • Vermeil ear-cuffs - consignment

I also lost one of the ear-cuffs while we were out. SIGH. My jewelry was all trying to escape!

On Saturday night, we headed over to Greg and Rosanna's for G's birthday party.
I had this top/dress combo in my mind the second I saw the dress.

  • Blouse - Recollections, thrifted; first worn here in November 2025 with tweed and copper
  • Dress - Sportalm, consignment; purchased above for $45.00
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog, consignment; last seen here a couple of weeks ago with brocade roses
  • Elmo coat (below) - Maeve, consignment, Powell River; first worn here (2nd outfit) earlier this month for brunch and Winesday

I loved the big puffy sleeves (SLEEVES) under the sporty piece.
The friction of the architecture - nylon, zippers, lace, - makes this sing for me.

I proudly showed my "S is for Sheila!" to everyone at the party.
I liked the seams on the tights with the look.

I bundled up for the cab with L and Nick. Casey drove us home very late (1:30am).
I love the drama of this coat - it's so joyful to wear.

The stuff:
I had to put all of this in the closet overnight, along with the coat, as the cats are highly enamoured of the fur (faux and real).

  • Hat - M&S, consignment, Powell River
  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Aldo suede gloves - thrifted

Silver bling:
More S's! And snakes!

  • Silver S cuff - Mexican, consignment, Sidney
  • Lucite/crystal bracelet - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Sidney
  • Snake brooch - gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1985
  • Silver snake ring - BC Museum Gift Shop, c. 1986
  • Silver/onyx spider ring - gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1986
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment

L left the lavender suit on the chair, and someone appropriated it right away.
"I love lavender!"

A better representation of the colour. L styled it with an HP Lovecraft t-shirt, a vintage belt and a Fluevog belt buckle, and of course, those are Fluevog shoes.
"Don't forget the brooch."

Ah, thank you, Whateley! L added a big square silver/grey/crystal brooch to the lapel after I took this picture.

Rosanna and me!
We chatted for ages.

I went to sit on the bed earlier in the evening to catch up with Mom.
"I love the robe!"       "Occupado. Go elsewhere."

I shooed them along, but Barnabas decided this was a good cuddle time.
"I love you!"

Many tummy rubs...?
"Yes, please."

Want to meow for Mom?
"Noooooooo."

Are you sure?
"I'm hiding!"

But where had Whateley gotten to?
"I'm fairly certain I could unplug these lights."

He's learned how to turn off light switches! Little monkey.

And there you have it, my friends, a lovely weekend. Sunday was a much-needed grocery shop (I did not dress for it) and chilling out with L and the boys. I hope you had a wonderful weekend, and thank you so much for being here.
