Mom found this silk floral scarf from her trip to China years and years ago (she walked and DANCED on the Great Wall!) and dressed up for me. AW!! I love you, Mom!
I dressed for the weather (dry and high single digit temps) and for walking. I headed for town, hopped a bus and walked to Mom's place. I bought lunch and we did a few "work-y" things before digging into the stew, a hearty veggie and sausage mix.
Mom-Days will look like this until Mom can be independently mobile again - as a former athlete, she takes care of herself.
- Mohair-blend sweater - Ralph Lauren, consignment; last worn here in November 2025 with leather and green boots
- Skirt - Kaliyana, consignment; last seen here in November 2025 with those same green boots and my snake jacket
- Boots - Original Sabado, Fluevog; last worn here in January for the first Mom-Day of the year
- Jacket (below) - Jeremy Scott X Adidas, consignment; last seen here in an outfit I loathed (the jeans are gone) in December 2025
The mild day allowed me to wear a fuzzy, warm sweater (I have a long-sleeved silk thermal under it too). I'm very fond of this plaid one - I don't like boring sweaters.
I love this big folded, bubble hem skirt. I have a slip layered under it (plus tights) for warmth.
The giant pockets were very welcome.
"This freshly-washed floor needs some cat hair."
Since my jacket doesn't have any!
I finally figured out how to keep the jacket from sliding backwards on me - I tied the two hoodie ties together like a makeshift cape and voila!

Of course, I landed on my brilliant idea AFTER I took the pictures.
"I've got a tail, you've got a tail, we've all got tails."
I like the unexpected rear view.
The stuff:
Mom admired the beautiful rich colour and soft leather of the purse. It doesn't hold much, but it was just right for hopping on and off the bus and a few kilometers of walking.

I bused out to Mom's, and did the usual pass of the farm with the SHEEPS!
There was some excellent Cloud Drama, but I was focused on the sheep on the right. Yessir!
Up a hill and through the woods.
I heard seven different kinds of birds here, including a new one: the Savannah Sparrow!
I came out at the softball fields.
The mountains in the distance are in Washington State, in the US. Mom's gardener, Keith, was there when I arrived, so I had a little walk-around. These are salmonberry bushes and blueberry bushes.
As I'll be coming out weekly, I'll take the same views, and we can watch Mom's garden burst into bloom together, my friends.

Mom's red hellebore was very pretty.
Her garden is planned to be all-year, so this will change a lot over the next few months.

A lush white hellebore and some tulips.
Another couple of weeks and these will be out, unless we get some frosts.

This area looks dead, but will be massive in spring.
Right now, it's a smattering of snowdrops, some daffodils starting to come up, and purple primulas.

This section is very boring right now, but I spy the coral-bell cluster!
That plant is over 50 years old!
Mom started getting tired, so she headed to her favourite comfy chair (perfect for napping) to rest.
Time to head home. No SHEEPS.
They all ran away as I got closer. I guess Dad Sheep didn't like the paparazzi.
And now, I'm going to sign off for the weekend.
"Feed me, or the book gets it."
Uh-oh.
Barnabas is still trying to master the Gargoyle Pose.
It's a long weekend - it's Family Day on Monday - so I'll be back on Monday with Tales of Adventure. Mom is hooked up again and is reading all your wonderful comments. She passes along her deepest thanks for all the good vibes.
Thanks for being here!

Love ❤️ the Mom & Sheila opening photo! Helen it’s great to see your 😊 smile. Your armband matches your outfit! The pattern and colors of the scarf are a wonderful blend and there are tassels! To my mind the best travel souvenirs are those that keep giving such as clothing, accessories or household items that are seen and used regularly. It’s a way to bring home a part of the place visited. Am enjoying the thought of you dancing on the Great Wall!
ReplyDeleteHi Sheila! I appreciate the walk from the bus stop to your Mom’s and back again. I get the sense of being in the country and imagine the invigorating movement, sounds and smells. I look forward to following the blooming of your Mom’s garden, and am going to see how the timing meshes (or not) with the bloom cycle of where I live (southern NY, north of New York City, located on a tidal salt marsh that feeds into Long Island Sound).
Here’s to the long weekend! Cheers, Laurie
I was delighted to see a "Mom-day" photo. Helen, you look great in that lovely scarf, and what memories it carries. Keep that dancing in mind, you will soon be out and about, although probably not back at the Great Wall.
ReplyDeleteSheila, your photos brought me thoughts of spring, the lambs and the lovely plants in your Mom's garden. I remember my in-laws in England grew Helleborus Niger, the Christmas rose, and they took some to decorate the church each year.
That is a cosy, attractive outfit. I find warm skirts with warm tights work well, even in our more extreme temperatures. Whateley's title choice of reading matter seems appropriate, and then I noticed the author. I read "Farenheit 451" back when it was first published! I suspect Barnabas is just waiting for you to install a statue of "The Thinker", so that he can leave the gargoyle alone for a while and try a new pose.
Lovely photo of you & Mom!, she looks fab in her chinese shawl!. And I love that plaid sweater (no boring sweaters!, yes!) with the amazingly shaped skirt and that Fabulous coat and even more fabulous boots!, lots of interesting colours and textures and details! and Fab Accessories!.
ReplyDeleteThanks for those photos!, so beautiful landscapes!
besos
I hope you're having a fabulous long weekend, Sheila!
ReplyDeleteThat photo of you and your mum is just gorgeous as are the ever-growing kittens. The red skirt was such a great buy, it looks so good on you and I adore the boots!
I love how we both shout "sheeps!" when we see them, you're both such city girls, aren't we? xxx
So great to see your mom’s lovely face! Wishing her continued healing.
