Monday Velvet and Sandals

Another week, another Monday. I did some outfit planning on the weekend, which is so good for my brain. I'm enjoying rewearing some of my favourite pieces from my closet, and focusing on getting in another wearing of things that have only been styled once or twice.
These wonderfully swooshy velvet trousers have only been worn once since I got them last summer in Powell River.

  • Blazer - InWear; last seen here in February with the now-gone silver skirt
  • Navy top - Helmut Lang, thrifted; last worn here in July 2025 with white jeans and a Desigual jacket
  • Velvet pants - Anthropologie, consignment, Powell River; first seen here in October 2025 with a velvet blazer
  • Sandals - Chie Mihara; last worn here in November 2025
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here a week ago

In case you were wondering, following the (perhaps final?) time change this past weekend, it's too dark now for the Stair Pic - it'll be a couple of weeks at least until we have enough light.
I pulled out my old trusty orange blazer to match the oranges in the floral velvet.

I need elevation for the pants, so my caramel sandals came to play.
The top is sleeveless and is a midnight blue - not navy, which I dislike.

Not incognito! It was so dark this morning, I nearly skipped my sunglasses, but I was very glad I'd grabbed them. It got lighter!
We're in one of those "everything" weather situations, with sun, wind, warm, freezing, rain, snow in the forecast.

The stuff:
I enjoyed having my sandals back, and wore short textured sock-tights with them.

  • Scarf - gift from Mom, Italy
  • Wool beret - consignment
  • Heart pin - consignment
  • Leather gloves - Danier Leather

Bold bling:
I just felt like wearing a big flower.

  • Belt - vintage 90s, consignment
  • Flower brooch - Eaton's?
  • Carved bangle - consignment
  • Brass/crystal/turquoise/pearl cuff - Myka, consignment
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Square ring - sidewalk find
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Ear-balls - thrifted, Sidney

As I was taking off my ear-balls, I spotted a name!
Zsiska! I paid $5.00 for these on our shop in Sidney back in November (here), and it previously had a House of Lily Koi tag for $18.00 on it. What these sold for? Around $80! A name makes a difference on the price.

Some kitty pictures.
"I'm a box cat!"

They box is starting to get a bit battered. It's been a firm favourite!
"I know you're in there, Barnabas."           "No, I'm not!"

And here's someone who can't handle a bit of catnip (we do supervised play with it).
"I just want to lieeeeee herrrrrreee..."

Happy Monday!

  1. Now I get it! I too don't like navy that much but do like midnight blue. Never figured this out before. Just knew some dark blue items are blah and some are good. So thanks for this. Oh that catnip face made my early morning :).

  2. I wasn't entirely sure what effect catnip has on cats so looked it up and it seems catnip can be either a stimulant or a relaxant. Ahh, no wonder why you supervise your kitties when catnip is in use!
Having never heard of Zsiska I just checked out their site and wow, they have some delightfully colorful earrings! Nice find on your part! I love the iridescence of your velvet trousers!
As for daylight savings time, I'm not a fan and wish the clocks would have remained as they were! Easy for me to feel that way because I am an early riser and was so enjoying the sunlit early mornings. :-)
Here's to a good week! Cheers, Laurie

  3. The jacket is just right for those pants. I never cared for navy because I had to wear it at school. Catnip is fun, we were once donated a large catnip plant from a friend and drove with part of it hanging out of the trunk. I had visions of being followed by cats. When we planted it the cat from over the road came over and sprawled out on it in ecstasy. One of the cats we once had, O-Dd on dry catnip and took a while to calm down!

  4. That jacket sets off those pants beautifully; plus, I think it is a really great orange tone on you. Another natty combo!
As with other commenters, I too have veered away from navy my whole life (my undertone turns cadaverish) until I realized that I could do what you’ve done here- use a complementary color near my face: Presto!
One of our cats was such a stoner dude. We used to sprinkle catnip on his scratching pad, and he would grab it with both hands and rub the whole thing on his own head until he was completely buoyantly mellow. He was fabulous. Lived to be almost 21 years old. I wish such happiness for this lot also.

  5. The outfit in this post prompts me to say something which may seem unrelated but it's not (to me, at least). And I'm trying to be honest and flattering so please interpret my remark that way.

Recently I've been watching The Original Series of Star Trek, filmed and broadcast in the late 1960s. While the show has its flaws (e.g., cluelessness over sexism) one aspect that jumps out at me are the amazing clothes designed for and worn by the female characters (mostly aliens). The outfits are bright, colorful and usually possess unusual design features, some of which I've never seen in real life. I'm mesmerized by the costumes and would trade a limb to wear many of them. (I need more limbs.)

I'm reminded of these interesting clothes by the bright, colorful and interesting outfits you put together, including this one. I don't know anyone else with such panache. Brio. Moxie.

Thanks for showing me my dream outfits can be replicated in real life. It, and you, inspire me.

    1. Aw, this is a WONDERFUL comment, thank you so much, Ally! I grew up watching the OG Star Trek, and I was always attuned to the space-themed outfits that the female characters wore, as well as clothes on other shows I watched then, like "The Love Boat" or "The Carol Burnette Show" (Bob Mackie!).
You made my day, thank you, honey.
