Velvet Leopards and Gold

I needed a big boost of colour and texture for my Monday - I knew it would be a very busy day.
It was cold - nearly mink coat weather, but not quite - and most importantly, not rainy or windy.

  • Cotton velvet jacket - Escada by Margaretha Ley, vintage 80s, thrifted; purchased here for $28.00
  • Cotton turtleneck sweater - Tabi, thrifted; last worn here just a few weeks ago, layered under cerulean suede
  • Skirt - Mexx, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in September 2025 for brunch in between Rifflandia theme days
  • Boots - Bond Girl, Fluevog X Anna Sui; last seen here (2nd outfit) for a leopard brunch in December 2025

I picked out the green and orange in the pattern of the velvet leopard jacket.
It has little bits of every colour in it, but when I stand back and look at it, it's predominantly red/orange and green/blue.

I ended up either shoving both sets of sleeves up, exposing my arms, or having them both down for the warmth.
With bossy coats like this, I keep the underneath layers pretty simple.

I took the jacket off briefly in the morning.
I liked the two tones of green together.

But my full love is for the coat worn as outerwear.
I walked both ways to and from work in my green boots and this snuggly hat and felt like a million bucks.

The stuff:
Did you see the leopard on my shoulder?

  • Fur scarf - Danier, thrifted
  • Hat - M'Sieu Leon, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - Echo, consignment
  • Articulated tiger brooch - consignment

Golden bling:
No actual gold was used in any of this.

  • Necklace - D'Orlan, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Droopy leopard brooch - Park Lane, thrifted
  • Gold bangle - thrifted
  • Hinged eelskin bangle - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Earrings - Biko, consignment
  • Amber ring - c. 1998
  • Brass leopard ring - thrifted

The boys snuggled with me while I finished my book in bed on Sunday morning.
"I love to cuddle!"

Barnabas likes to sleep under my knees.

When I turned my back, Whateley had roused his brother and stolen the spot!
"Tummy rub!"

He's not much of a cuddler, but likes the warmth.

  1. You clearly must have looked fabulous in the wild :). My kitty also loves to sleep in the crook behind my knees. Lise

  2. That new jacket works very well with the colours you chose. Good to see it making its debut! The kittens' eyes fascinate me, the way they look at the camera.

  3. Eighties-tastic look there, Sheila!
Whateley gets into some very odd positions and I love that Barnabas is a snuggler! xxx

    1. Thank you, Vix! They are both still very rubbery kittens. Barnabas loves pets, snuggles and curling up with us. Whateley does his own thing - loves his face and neck being rubbed, but does not want to sit on us.

  4. Escada has sumptuous fabrics and construction. Excellent quality that lasts forever. Thanks for giving a gorgeous piece another life!

  5. Seriously, Barnabas under the blanket, head almost on the pillow...I am swooning! Am I picturing correctly that he likes to sleep by your knees and UNDER the blankets? Whateley's position says to me "king of the bed" ;-).
Great color in the skirt and the boots look cozy and comfortable. As for the jacket, that's another snuggly piece and I see why you wouldn't want to take it off! You have a knack for finding amazing jacket pieces!!
We wound up on Sunday into Monday with 14 inches of snow, most of it soft and fluffy but then ending with several inches of sleet that turned the snow crunchy. It will likely be around all week because our temps are in single digits F° at night and don't go much beyond 20° or so during the day, with the forecast expected to remain like that. There are two different weather models, one forecasting the same type of storm for this weekend and the other forecasting a calm weekend. Oh the anticipation! ;-)
On a completely different note, last week I finally gave up using multiple pairs of glasses (reading and sunglasses) and returned to my old favorites of progressives. Anyway, am sharing because I had the glasses treated so they transition to sunglasses in the sun and then back to regular indoors, and the transitions happen rather quickly (about 1-2 minutes). The technology has improved dramatically since I tried a similar pair many, many years ago. Sharing in case it is something that would appeal to you as an eyeglass wearer. :-)
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I know, isn't he the cutest thing? Yes, I read with my knees pulled up, and he likes to go under the "tent" that they make, Laurie. He snuggles there every night until he gets warm enough and then pops out. Whateley's started doing it too!
Thank you! I adore funky and unusual jackets - I have far too many!
Oh my! I can't even imagine that much snow - it would shut Victoria down! Brr! I hope you got the calm weekend!
I remember how bad transition lenses were back in the 70s - my dad had them and was always blind for several minutes when he came indoors. I like my prescription sunnies, and am thinking I'll get another pair in a year to add to the collection.
