Getting in a wearing of this awesome dress.
Why not sooner? So many dresses, so little time.
I layered a pink cami and little shorts under it, and had socks on with the boots.
I hoped I would be warm enough...and not too hot! September's such a changeable month.
It's not your eyes, the pattern has a "negative, and it's flipped on the seams.
Mom noticed it right away (she's got the eye of an artist, she never misses anything). Incognito. I love this swooshy dress - I might keep it out for winter as it layers well.
A kind person on the bus loved my boots.

Accoutrements and stuff:
I bused straight to the mall, and bused straight home - I had stuff to prepare for Rifflandia this weekend.

We had a glorious day, with temps in the low 20s and a light breeze.
The perfect day to stroll under towering trees, watch dragonflies flit over us, and enjoy the sun beaming down. I saw a black bird with red, and thought it was a red-winged blackbird (which are common in this area), then thought, "That's too big!"
I zoomed way in and...it's a Pileated Woodpecker! So cool! Look at that red mohawk!
I got on the Merlin app, hoping for more (I use the mic and let it tell me what I'm hearing). The usual bird suspects were out - lots of them!
The Golden-crowned Sparrow was another new bird. Very exciting! Way up on that hill is the highway.
The creek's looking good.
Faded green as the summer wanes.
In the middle area is the creek.
We went out onto the viewing area to get away from some Loud Talkers.
The post with the box on it in the distance is a bird house - they are all over the hill. Faded green as the summer wanes.
Mom noted that all the apple trees are from when there were houses down here.
I like that the area's being restored to the natural flora, but they've left the apple trees. It's good food for the birds and other critters.

It's been a dry summer.
Two very spindly and not-green-looking trees.
All the new birds I recorded. I'm up to 62 on my Life List.
I added the White-throated Sparrow after I took this picture. Six new birds!
We retreated into this forested area to cool off.
And rested on a giant granite rock for a while, then headed back.
The skyline is changing in this neighbourhood.
A crane and some tall buildings.
A turkey vulture soaring on the thermals overhead.
Some trees starting to turn as the weather cools.

...and SLEEVES!
We both have split cuff detailing. Great minds...
We enjoyed a yummy lunch at Montana's. Mom was classing up the joint!
Thanks so much for the wonderful day, Mom! I love you!I hopped on what turned out to be a Chaos Bus which did not take me straight home, so I got off in a familiar area of Fairfield and walked home.
A kitty in a window enjoying the sun. Aw! After this weekend, L and I will be looking in earnest for a new furry family member...(I am SO EXCITED).

My friends, I'm signing out for the weekend, and as you may have surmised, it's going to be a busy one! I may be a day late as I catch up, but please do pop by on Monday for tales of adventure! It will be worth the wait!
Thank you all so much for being here. Group hug!
Hi Helen! I love your entire outfit, the patterned flowing pants (they look quite comfortable), white top with visual interest, necklace and - woohoo! - silver grey sneakers! Of course you and Sheila have shirts with similar sleeves…it’s the Mom-Daughter fashion connection that has more often than not shown up, unplanned, when you two meet for an outing!
ReplyDeleteSheila seeing a Pileated Woodpecker is such a treat! It is a handsome and striking bird. In my life I’ve only ever seen one 4 times and was always agog at the sight. The wild rose looked quite large for what I think of as ‘rose size’ and the vivid color was lovely to see.
Three cheers for your dress! I hope you do keep it out for fall.
Thanks for taking us along on your walk! It’s always calming to experience nature no matter that it’s vicariously! Here’s to a busy, full, musical and surely sartorial weekend! And I’m purring for your upcoming potential addition. Cheers, Laurie
Mom is so classy in black and white, isn't she?
DeleteI was thrilled to see the Pileated Woodpecker! What a cool-looking bird!
That wild rose bloom was about the size of a baseball - very big, as they are usually closer to tennis/golf ball size.
We'll see - I have a lot of dresses in my fall/winter collection, and I only have so many hangers!
I'm so glad you enjoyed our adventure! I know, I am SO STOKED to get a kitten! I have to keep myself off the website...
Stunning photos, what a gorgeous day. Pileated Woodpeckers are amazing, scaled-down pterodactyls. Your mom’s outfit was dynamite, the necklace and the top together are everything. Your dress is heaven; gosh, I miss Barney’s, even though I could never really afford to shop there. I think they inspired some of the best clothes of the era in their collabs with designers.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Julia! I know, totally little dinosaurs, aren't they? I love the red "mohawk"!
DeleteMom is so classy - my first fashion influence, of course! I wish I'd gotten to see Barney's! But at least I have the dress.
Gorgeous photos of you both and a glorious vista, too! I need your bracelet in my life!
ReplyDeleteI haven't used my Merlin app in ages, I can't wait to discover some interesting birdlife in Greece.
Have a brilliant weekend, I can't wait to read all about it! xxx
I so seldom see bracelets like this - sending good thrifting vibes for one to come your way, Vix. Ooh, definitely turn it on for Greece! I only use it when I'm somewhere new - it's all chickadees, finches and wrens around our area.
DeleteOff to Rifflandia!
That dress definitely deserves to stay out for winter! How gorgeous it is and being swooshy is a plus! I'm also loving those incredible boots and the blue and silver bling!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at the number of birds you've recorded, that's just incredible.
That street art is fabulous!
Wishing you an exciting weekend, Sheila! xxx
Well, there are only so many hangers, so we'll see. My boots are so awesome, worth every penny.
DeleteI was stunned - the last time I had this many new birds was sitting outside Mom's house!
Thanks so much, dear Ann! You too! Much love to you, Jos and wee Bess.
I love your boots, too- not surprised you got complimented on them. Such a lovely pair...and I do like your dress. T
ReplyDeleteSo nice you had a great adventure with your mother.
The blue bracelet is very pretty. I like all of your accessories.
DeleteYour mother looks lovely in her light blouse and a big necklace with a pedant.
Oooooh, I’m bouncing up and down with excitement for new of your new family member! May the Cat Distribution System bless you with a slinky, snuggly goofball. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteHopefully soon, although these things take time. Don't worry, Leanne, I'll be sharing it right away when we get a new little furry boy.
DeleteWhat a fun day out. The blue bracelet is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Hena!
