Winners Week - Cheap Pants!

Wrap cream wool sweater with black embroidery (Oxmo, Plum), velvet camisole (Nepean), black tweed pants (Dalia Collection, Winners), cream/black patent slingbacks (Miz Mooz, The Cobbler), double hoop silver earrings.
Yeah, these pants make me look short. In hindsight, probably should have left them on the rack, but hey, they were $10! And they fit great...they're just a titch too short.

I really wanted dressy pants to wear with flats for work (most of my dress pants are about 4 inches too long and I have to wear heels with them), and these seemed to work, but after wearing them for a day...

Maybe I'll ask Ruth to hem them for me and make them cropped. Maybe I will just consign them.

Winners Week - Black and White Skirt with Red

Red satiny cropped jacket (Vero Moda, Bryan's), black sleeveless high neck t-shirt with lace front (Lady Dutch, The Bay), black and white patterned skirt with beads (Tommy Hilfiger, Winners), silver/black earrings & bracelet (The Cobbler), black patent slingbacks (Naturalizer).
I really wanted a neutral skirt that would go with lots of tops, that would be cool and easy to wear for summer. This fits the bill! It's a little long, but I can't be bothered to hem, so *shrug*, I'll make do. I didn't feel like doing anything terribly exciting with it today, so the old standby red jacket makes another appearance.

Here's a close-up of the jewelry.
Pretty...I like that the bracelet is hinged so that it can be smaller and not fall off my wrist. Most bracelets are too big for me and slide off.

Winners Week - Cropped Pant Suit

This week's theme: Winners! If you love a sale or hunting for that bargain, you've got to love Winners - a whole department store of odds and ends of new clothes, shoes, etc. (apparently they carry things other than clothes and shoes, but those are the only areas I look in).

Elaine and I spent 4 hours there yesterday and, spent and exhausted, we were triumphant in our purchases. Every day this week, I will feature one of my Winners' finds.

Black suit jacket (Max Studio, Winners), black cropped pant (Focus 2000, Winners), pale orange cami (Mexx, Dots), yellow satin blouse (Do & Be, Bliss? damn, some boutique shop), red satin dragon pumps (Aldo), gold big link bracelet (Jones New York, The Bay), gold hoop earrings.
Hee, Inigo wanted to be in the picture. At least he's not showing off his ass this time.

The pants are the new item, although the jacket is also Winners (from last fall). I was pretty sure that the fabric and shade of black were exactly the same, though, and I was right: they are an exact match! So now I have 2 pairs of pants (one regular length) to wear as a suit with the jacket. And only $19.99 - score!

I just love these shoes - and you know, I never used to wear them. I spent $90 on them and never wore them except for special occasions. What a waste! Now, I try to wear different shoes every day (well, I have enough of them! may as well), and I love that some of these older ones are seeing the light of day.

Just spreading my own brand of sunshine, ha ha.

Party - Dev's Birthday!

Black cotton peplum jacket (Vero Moda, Plum), safari print dress (Kenzie, Dots), black leather belt (Plum), wood bracelet & earrings (Oscar & Libby's), ring (Guess), yellow patent clutch (The Bay), leather wedge sandals (Nine West, The Bay).
Love this dress and was quite pleased with the outfit. The dress is so cute - in a sea of dresses at Dots with no shape or babydoll cuts, this stood out as one of the only dresses with any shape at all. It came with a bigass wide black elastic belt, which was too ugly to keep. The dress was $45 (listed retail price was $135), and was an extra 30% off.

A shot of just the dress:

Sadly, I discovered that I had burnt the backs of my legs playing Ultimate yesterday, so I am pouty. I hate getting burnt.

Unfortunately, it was too cold last night to take my jacket off at the party. I just couldn't warm up. When is the weather going to get summery? I am sick of weather that looks warm and isn't.

Casual Friday - Red & Denim

Red blouse (THX Thanx Collection, Winners), denim finish cotton skirt (Jacob), double buckle black leather belt (Jacob), red patent kitten hell slingbacks (Aldo), white gold hoop earrings.
As I planned to go shopping after work on Friday, I had to wear "shopping clothes", i.e. things that are easy to change in and out of when trying clothes on. This is my favourite blouse; it's washable, it doesn't wrinkle and it's cute. I think it was around $12 at Winners last fall.

I like this outfit, but I ended up with a jacket on over it all day and the jacket was not really right with it (it was my cropped grey Guess jacket) - too poufy with the poufy skirt. I ended up looking like I had no shape at all.

Shopping was okay - I hit the Guess store's final clearance (nothing good left) and went to Dots. They have some new stuff at Dots, mostly Kensie and Mac and Jac. I got a cute "safari" fabric dress, and a great black dress that will get a lot of work wear right into the fall.

Another Annoying Blouse

Periwinkle blue cotton blouse (Plum), black/silver front pleated skirt (H&M, NYC), black leather belt (Plum), cream/black slingbacks (Miz Mooz, The Cobbler), black wood/cream capiz shell necklace and double hoop black wood earrings (both Caracol, Plum and Oscar & Libby's).
Got this blouse last year on end-of-season clearance from Plum - love the fit, the colour, it's very practical. Notice how I never wear it?

It requires ironing every time I look at it. There are creases all around the waist from the belt, which is done up very loosely. Not that I do the ironing - L does it, bless his heart, what a guy. But since he does it, he does it at his own pace, which is approximately twice a year.

Also, I had Toastmasters today, and I had to do a speech evaluation and I was just a titch nervous about that, and oops, a wee bit of sweat in the pits.

This shade of blue, this fabric, goes very dark when wet. LOVELY. I love having round wet patches under my arms.

I think I may have to destroy this blouse, like, cut it up with scissors, to avoid it being a further plague upon my wardrobe. Ruth, I wouldn't wish it on you. Don't ask for it.

Maybe if I only wear it with things over it so the armpits don't show...

Attack of the Chewbacca Sweater!

Brown wool/cashmere cardigan (Jacob), orange wrap t-shirt (Inwear, Dots), turquoise tank (Esprit), floral skirt (Mexx, Dots), brown leather boots (Roberto Vianni, Sterling Shoes), white stone and silver earrings & necklace (Plum).
I decided to highlight the brown in the pattern of this skirt this time around (last time I wore a grey jacket with orange top & turquoise shoes), so did the brown boots with the brown cardi. I had pretty much consigned the cardigan to casual wear around the house, but needed it for this outfit. It's a size L, so I haven't been shy about putting it in the washer or dryer to shrink it up a bit.

By mid-day, I had brown fuzz EVERYWHERE. All over my boobs, all over my back, under my arms. Little brown fuzzballs were falling off me onto my desk. I found one stuck to the fabric quad wall of Ruth's desk.

I feel like I've been felt up by a Wookie.

Kimono Dress and "Sex and the City"

Kimono patterned dress (Vero Moda, Bryan's), two-tone wedges (Aerosoles), wood cuff and earrings (Oscar & Libby's).
This dress was first worn to Celia and Steve's party, which was a while ago now, so it was time to break it out for work. To make it a little less dressy, these wedges:
Got them on 1/2 price after Christmas, and what do those devils at Aerosoles do? They put them back on regular price for spring/summer. Evil!

Of course, this does not stop me from buying their shoes...but never at full price.

Went to see the "Sex and the City" movie with Ruth and Elaine - a shout out to my fashionable girlfriends! It was a pretty good movie, like seeing 5 or 6 episodes of the show. Most of the fashion was amazing (although the bird in the hair...yeah, NO, not even for me).

Green and Leopard

Apple green cotton blouse with ruffles (Esprit), cream cami with lace (Vero Moda, Plum), black pinstripe pencil skirt (Inwear, Dots), leopard belt (Plum), leopard shoes (Steve Madden, DSW, San Francisco), tiger eye & silver necklace (handmade, gift from Cat), white gold hoop earrings.
A nice classic look - I do love my leopard! I love the colour of this blouse - it's a real granny smith apple green. The colour is pretty close in the picture above, but not at all accurate below.

A close-up of the necklace.
I love the turquoise-y streaks in the tiger eye stones (well, maybe they aren't tiger eye, but they sure are pretty).

L Figure - TV Bot!

This is one of the figures that came with the game "Robo Rally" (a very fun game). Apparently, they don't put in metal unpainted figures anymore, which is really too bad. This is the second figure we've done from this game (I did a yellow robot I called "Tonka Bot" - L and I each got one of him as there was a duplicate included in the game).
I like the test pattern on the TV screen. The rest of him is modeled after "power bot" in "Star Wars" (one of the bots in the garbage scow).
We are doing the same arrow base on all of them, for consistency.

L Figure - Elf Fighter!

L finished this guy this week while he was off (it was his birthday, so he took the week off work...yes, I was jealous).
Good colour palate on the clothing.
Great job on the face! It's hard to get the eyes right.
Nice detail on the border of the cloak. I think I would have done a bit more complicated pattern, but that's just me.

Party - Caro's Convocation!

Copper and black lace dress (vintage, Value Village), big black leather belt (NYC, some tourist shop in Times Square), black kitten heels (Reaction, Kenneth Cole, gift from Cat), gold-plated ring with amber-coloured stone (Retrowear), yellow/amber crystal clip-on earrings (vintage).
I've had this dress for about 7-8 years and have never worn it - it didn't ever look quite right when I was heavier (the waist sat too high). I bought it at Value Village (I always look in the Vintage section) for about $7. The lace part is very stiff and crinkly; the underskirt is a soft crepe. I think this dress is handmade - the seams aren't finished and the cut edges have frayed over time. It also has a metal zipper, so I'm pretty sure it's pre-1965 or so, when they started using plastic zippers.

A close-up of the jewelry. I got these earrings at an antique fair at the mall downtown about 8 years ago, for about $14. The ring is from a store that's closed now - it was only $5. It's one of the few older rings I have that still fits my fingers.
It was a fun party! I slept in till almost noon today!
