Mom-Day in Tulle and Copper

Hello, my friends and welcome back to Mom-Day!
The weather turned gloomy and chillier, so we had a quiet one, with some light puzzling, lunch and a catch-up chat. Thank you so much for having me, Mom - I love you!

Outfit first! Since the weather hadn't cooperated, I wasn't able to wear my new shoes, so I had to build a new outfit on the fly.
It was fun, just grabbing the things I love.

  • Cotton blazer - Club Monaco menswear, thrifted; first worn here in May with flocked tulle
  • Abstract Brutalist top - handmade, vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in March with my Adidas tulle skirt
  • Taupe tulle skirt - no label, consignment; last worn here in May with studs and amber
  • Leather cowboy boots - 1883 Lucchese, consignment; last seen here for Rifflandia back in September 2025 (the last one ever!)

I definitely needed a jacket - I wanted all the pockets in this one.
It has SIX!

This top and skirt have been worn together before (2nd outfit here), last July, just after I got this top.
It's a winning combination.

I wore a scarf for the spitty rain that started late in the afternoon.
I was glad I'd worn it, as I was shat upon by a pigeon when I stepped off my first bus downtown!

The stuff:
There was a small bit on the scarf, bag and boots.

  • Leather purse - Arcadia, consignment
  • Scarf - Dad's, vintage 1960s
  • Copper brooch - vintage 50s, thrifted
  • Copper/turquoise brooch - Bell Trading Co., vintage 50s, thrifted

Copper bling:
I even had birdshit on my hand - I had to give my copper cuff/rings a good washing when I got to Mom's.

  • Geometric bracelet - Renoir, vintage 50s, thrifted
  • Figure 8 bracelet - Renoir, vintage 50s, Seattle, consignment, gift from L
  • Copper/glass cuff/rings - Raphael of Canada, vintage 70s, vintage fair
  • Copper/glass ring - consignment
  • Copper/turquoise ring - Bell Trading Co., vintage 50s, Grandma J's
  • Necklace - Renoir, vintage 50s, consignment
  • Copper/enamel earrings - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 50s, Grandma J's

Here I am downtown, after trying to wipe the bird's "gift" off my jacket - I grabbed napkins from a nearby corner store.
A good look at the jewelry. I hit the jacket with Folex and some soap and water and washed everything when I got home.

Before I left, the kitties kept me company in the bathroom.
Barnabas got a quick wash in the sink (they sometimes get litter stuck to themselves), and has suffered the indignity well.

Whateley watched on - he's also been dunked under running water. They don't mind - no scratching or yowling.
"My bum is clean!"         "Am I next?"

Good news, my friends! Maple is back!
I was talking to Mom and saw her in the maple tree out the window.

I didn't take many pictures today - it was overcast and I was eager to spot-wash my jacket at Mom's.
Stick Tree!

Mom's blueberries will be ripe soon.
Yum yum!

Mom had been working on the murder mystery puzzle during the week, but saved the last for the two of us to do together.
We zoomed through it in less than an hour!

And here it is finished! How do you feel, Mom?
"Victorious!"

Then we read the solution, which was boring, but what a fun puzzle to do!

Home again, although I stopped in at Dots on the way for a good browse. I tried a bunch of things on, but nothing quite clicked.
Whateley was sleeping on my couch.

And Barnabas was snuggled up in our bed.
Aw, I love them so much!

Lastly, L with Barnabas.
Cuddly boys!

Signing off for the weekend, Gentle Readers - thank you so much for being here. I'll be back with tales of adventure on Sunday, and hope to see you then!

  1. For a "just grabbing" outfit you ended up with wonderful colour co-ordination! I just love it. Obviously that pigeon was also trying to give it the seal of approval. Someone should put diapers on those wretches. Did your Mom laugh and tell you it was good luck? Well done for her to save you some puzzle to finish together. It must have been quite a challenge at the beginning without a picture. I did laugh at the cats' cleanup session. I wish you and L. and the cats a splendid weekend.

    1. Thank you! Ugh, rotten flying rats is what they are (they're technically rock doves and are an invasive species). I texted Mom: "Get out the Folex!" and she had it waiting for me when I arrived! No harm done, and we'll see if the karma pays off on my outing this weekend.
The puzzle was more fun without a picture, actually. It helped that the image had lots of different colours that we could match up and work on individually.
      Thank you so much!!

  2. I must echo Bushlady's entire comment! Pigeon poop is the latest fashion scoop. ;-) I once had a dog pee on my hair while sitting on a hill (in front of a church, no less!) with my long hair arrayed out behind me. What a moment!
Helen, I love your blouse and it looks beautiful on you! Kudos to finishing the puzzle; it is friggin' HUGE in size! Happy weekend to everyone! Cheers, Laurie

    1. Oh, no! I thing dog pee would be worse than pigeon poop!
      Thanks so much, Laurie!

  4. Love the tulle skirt. Your mom's victory pose is awesome. Nothing like that feeling you get after finishing a puzzle.

  5. "Abstract Brutalist top" -- that's a combination of words I never expected to see.
