Jammy Jumpsuit in the Wild; Sailboat Brunch and a Wee Shop

Welcome back, my friends! The early days of our stay-cation have been quiet - but that won't last for long, as L's birthday party is over the weekend.

We didn't do too much on Friday, but I required a few things from the grocery store, and L had an order to pick up, so we got dressed and ventured downtown for a wee browse around, followed by a small food shop.
Jammy Jumpsuit in the wild!

  • Jumpsuit - Oscar De La Renta, vintage 70s, thrifted; purchased here for $38.50
  • Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last seen here (3rd outfit) in April for ballet at the theatre

I'm not sure how many times I'll wear this jumpsuit, but L loved it.
I covered the self-tie (attached) belt with this wide 80s-era leather belt, tucking the ties under in the back.

Added matchy shoes and glasses.
There's not a huge variety of ways you could style this.

However, I had a lot of fans of my swanky vintage look. The people at Dots loved it.
The pop of pink from the purse was just right.

The stuff;
Awesome shoes - I wonder if I'll make it to 100 wears from them one day? I'm over 60, I think.

  • Purse - Michael Kors, consignment
  • Belt - vintage 80s, thrifted

Matchy bling:
Little delicate pendants like this fire opal set in sterling silver (a gift from Mom from Australia) remind me of the 80s.

  • Silver opal pendant - Australia, gift from Mom
  • Silver/turquoise earrings - consignment
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/turquoise ring - Glee
  • Bangle - thrifted
  • Silver/stones bracelet - Salt Spring Island, gift from L

While L shopped, I had a good poke through Dots. Although I'd shopped with Zeudy there recently, I wasn't looking for myself.
I found this lovely purple blazer in the clearance section.

It's by Fransa, and would have retailed for over $100.00.
Only $19.99!

I found a pair of neon green Man Repeller jeans (see Greetje's post here, link 'cause I love).
I think they might be the same as hers?

They are by Mac Jeans, a German company.
Looks like the regular retail would be $79.99, but for me, merely $29.99. I'm excited to mix these with some of my sporty looks.

L and I hung out on Friday night, playing boardgames and listening to music, then had a leisurely morning before heading to John's Place for brunch.
I've been shopping and playing with several options for L's birthday party theme, which is "Nautical Tropical Optical Spectacular" (we love a theme!).

  • Blazer - Moda International, vintage 90s, thrifted; first worn here in October 2023 with acid wash denim and these same shoes
  • Dress - Animale, consignment; purchased here for $54.00
  • Shoes - Ishshoes Zoomies, Fluevog; last seen here here in April with a neon green dress

I'd envisioned this dress as one of my party outfits (you know I usually do 2 or 3 per evening), but as it's a thin wafty cotton, it didn't feel dressy enough.
So...like the earlier ocean-liner skirt, I styled this for a day 'fit instead, doing white and gold accessories and a pinstriped blazer.

Without the blazer, which I took off once we were seated. I love the square neckline.
The black and tan pattern make it tricky to add accessories.

I could do red or blue - I tried both and they looked good.
But it's really a summer-y dress, so I went with white.

I layered an extra pouffy skirt underneath to give the dress more oomph
I also had nylons on - it's still not warm enough for bare legs! - and the extra skirt kept the cotton dress from clinging to my legs.

Looking very Anna Wintour, said L.
I started ordering him around like the Meryl character in The Devil Wears Prada, said to have been modeled on Anna Wintour. "Get me my coffee and it had better be perfect."

I was much nicer after having my coffee!
I would wear this outfit to the office.

Look, it's a sailboat!
I showed it off to Deb and a few of the other staff at John's.

The stuff:
A bunch of white and gold things. So classy!

  • Purse - Roots73, thrifted

Black, white and gold bling:
I liked the brooch with the two parrots. Very tropical!

  • Belt - no label, vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $4.00
  • Black/white cuff - vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Gold cuff - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Silver/kyanite ring - consignment
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Parrot brooch - thrifted
  • Gold necklace - Givenchy, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Gold hoops - 5th anniversary gift from L

We were seated so fast, I didn't even have a chance to have a peek through the thrift shop, so L and I had a look around after brunch.
I found two things in the jewelry case.

These tiny claw and stone ball earrings were $8.00.
I'll probably wear them in the fall, in spooky season.

This snake brooch is awesome, not a stone missing.
It's large - about 5 inches long. $7.00 felt like a good price.

I also spotted this silk dress in amongst the polyesters and gross plasticky fabrics.
That colour is so very 80s, almost a minty-emerald green.

Abalone buttons and a matching belt with a slide buckle.
The sleeves have a little button too. The buckle has a bit of wear on it.

I have never heard of "Barnaby Rippit" before. A quick interwebz search reveals very few of this label, which everyone agrees is from the 1980s.
I knew this would be the equivalent of a modern size 10. $22.00 is a fairly good price for a silk dress - it's beautifully made and I'll probably wear it once.

And now...off to party! I'll be back with our outfits and party pics soon!

  1. The jumpsuit looks fabulous, I agree with L!
How cool is the print on that not quite party dress? I love a square neckline and it fits you so well.
Loving the ball and claw earrings and the snazzy snake. Jade green, along with electric blue, were my favourite colours in the early 1980s. That dress looks quite klassy! xxx

  2. The jumpsuit is so sophisticated and you wear it well! As for the deep purple blazer and the vivid lime green pants, I had an image of them together but the blazer is too long to go with the pants. Ha, man repeller pants, how about super comfy woman pants. ;)

The black and white dress is stunning! I love the cut and it looks perfect with your frame. Cocktail party, work, afternoon outdoor wedding…it’s all in the accessories. You have higher standards than I do; the material wouldn’t hold me back from wearing it to a dressy occasion.
Looking forward to seeing what you do wear to L’s birthday bash!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Considering it's intended as loungewear, not bad, eh, Laurie? Yes, the blazer doesn't look right with the neon jeans. I agree, they are WOMAN pants!

Thank you! I may pull it out of Limbo!

  4. I agree with L. and Vix: that jumpsuit looks absolutely amazing on you!
I'm also agreeing with Vix on the sailing boat dress with its square neckline.
I would have fought you for the green 1980s dress and I've got serious snake brooch envy!
Happy birthday to L., I can't wait to see your party pics and outfits! xxx
