Testing out this unusual split dress, and I won't drag it out - I'm not keeping it.
- Mesh top - Jean Paul Gaultier, vintage 90s, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in May for Star Wars Day
- Split dress - Willow & Thread, thrifted; purchased here for $24.95
- Trousers - BCBG Max Azria, consignment; last worn here in August with a yellow split dress
- Shoes - Garden of Delight Rita, Fluevog; last seen here in September 2023 with black and floral
It's too wrinkly (even with a linen-blend), a bit big, and just didn't ring my bell.
On the plus side, it's a very interesting piece and I loved how it looked over these swooshy rust pants. I layered my Jean Paul Gaultier circles mesh top underneath.
It's one of two Gaultier thin tops from the 90s that have a permanent place in my closet.
Incognito. Temps are in the low 20s - I still didn't need a coat or anything more than this long cocoa-bean scarf.
Note hands jammed in the pants pockets. I did enjoy posing with the long layers.

Accoutrements and stuff:
This new-to-me silk scarf feels amazing - I liked how the long ends fluttered as I walked to and from work.

The stuff:
My annual wearing of these very rare blue leather Fluevogs. They're still in great shape after 11 years - I've now worn them 19 times.

I have this top as well ( found at Goodwill ) and I pair it with a pair of slim leg pants.
ReplyDeleteI tried that too, but it didn't ring my bell - thanks for the tip!
DeleteI love the deep vibrant color of the shoes but the heel height, yikes! I’m in complete agreement with you on the linen top; maybe if it was a colorful pattern but the current color doesn’t do anything for the shape so why keep what doesn’t work. Three cheers for the crystal jewelry!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Laurie
The shoes are fine for a day mostly at my desk, Laurie. Yeah, the top was blah - I liked the idea of it more than the execution. Sparkly jewelry is always a plus!
DeleteI remember my mum buying me a trouser suit which consisted of a split sided top just like that along with matching hareem pants in orange lame for a party in 1979 (I was a very sophisticated 13 year old!) The wrinkliness of linen drives me daft, I don't blame you for chucking it.
ReplyDeleteLove blue with brown, a magical combo. xxx
See, now THAT sounds like a fun outfit! Thanks, Vix!
DeleteHearing you on the split dress! Like Vix, I'm not a fan of linen's wrinkling tendencies ... but I don't think the big expanse of plain white fabric doesn't do you any favours either. Off to Limbo it is! On the positive side, I absolutely love the swooshy rust trousers, Gaultier mesh top and the cocoa-bean scarf. The shoes are fabulous too, but my knees and back hurt from just looking at their height :-) xxx
ReplyDeleteI like linen, but when it's a blend, I expect it to be more wrinkle-free! Everything else is a win, I agree, Ann! The shoes are not too bad...as long as I'm only sitting!
DeleteThat mesh top is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI really love this look on you.
You look fantastic!
Thanks, Ivana!
DeleteFor me, the stark expanse of white contrasting with the rust and black doesn't work- it should do and probably does for others, but doesn't for me although I love the silhouette of the outfit!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be decisive when a piece doesn't work! Kezzie x
It felt a bit like a butcher apron, Kezzie. It just didn't work for me, even though I also like the long-over-long silhouette.
DeleteYup, no waffling here - it will not be a Regret-Me-Not!
I take my hat off to you for attempting to style that dress. That's a tricky customer, sartorially speaking!
