High DOD: Denim Fin and Chartreuse Pants

One of the most satisfying things about blogging for over 16 years, is that I am still surprised when an outfit works harmoniously, especially if I haven't tried it on first.
I generally recommend a try-on of the main items when styling a High Degree Of Difficulty (DOD) item, so that you can find out what shapes and proportions work for a non-standard garment. Said item is this denim/brocade vest-tunic thing...and what do you wear with such a thing?

  • Tunic - 3.1 Phillip Lim, consignment; purchased here for $52.00
  • Shirt - Eddie Bauer, consignment; last seen here in April under an art-inspired 'fit
  • Trousers - Zara, consignment; first worn here in June, in head-to-toe chartreuse
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last seen here in April with more black and white

I knew how it fit from trying it on at Turnabout with a couple of different bottoms, and it definitely looked better with a long, full partner. I have Ideas for its next outfit!
I did pre-plan this look on one of my last "Play in the Closet" sessions. I thought the white shirt under it opened up possibilities for office styling, although at some point I'll have to wear it solo (I can't waste those bra strap holders!).

The denim fin down the front amused me - I waved it at colleague Glenn.
Any solid colour bottom would work with this, but I thought the chartreuse skewed more summery.

Good flowy pants!
I always mentally say, "Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!" when I walk in wide-legged pants.

Incognito. Dressing for hot weather is always challenging. It was a mere 13 degrees this morning on my walk to work, but a raging 29 on the way home, eight hours later.
Movie Star Wrap to protect my head and hair (and it didn't flatten my hair like a hat would!).

Accoutrements and stuff:
Once I had picked chartreuse pants, I had to go green for all my stuff!

  • Silk scarf - Yves Saint Lauren, vintage 70s, thrifted

I enjoy choosing a scarf from my collection to go with my outfits. I found this vintage YSL on a mannequin at Flavour Upstairs two years ago - it was mine for $17.99.

Green bling:
Wearing both Mom and Gram today. My women keep me strong!

  • Green stone bracelet - vintage mall
  • Green crystal bracelet - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Green cocktail ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Lemon-lime crystal brooch/earrings - vintage 60s, Gram S's

  1. Am always amused at the impact of color. In this case the chartreuse pants gave my eyes the impression that there are thin lines of the same color in the florals of the denim/brocade vest/tunic, making for a perfect pairing. The white collared top (am often impressed at the crisp color of your whites!) gives a potentially funky top a taste of classic. You come up with interesting outfits and are willing to try interesting pieces; it is one of the reasons (among many!) I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts. Looking forward to seeing the top in a future outfit.

  3. This vest tunic seems a work of an artisan. I really like the unique cut and the overall look of this tunics. I also love how you styled it. I think you managed to really capture its uniqueness. This pair of trousers works really well with this tunics and they look great on you. Have a lovely day ahead!

  4. It seems we shared the same weather today, although it did end in a thunderstorm.
I love how you styled that DOD tunic. I wouldn't have known where to start! The swooshy chartreuse trousers add a summery touch indeed, and adding lemon/lime brooch to the white shirt's collar was an inspired idea! xxx
