Razzle Dazzle and Sunshine Boots

Welcome back, Gentle Readers. My heart goes out to our US neighbours...I'm so very sorry. I hope you find comfort in friends and family, and distraction in things like clothes and fashion. Thank you for being here. A big hug out to all of you, and not just my American friends, but those watching around the world. Hang in there.

I dressed for a few things. On the plus side, I had dinner after work with my dear friend and former Fairweather manager Tammy at The Wind Cries Mary (great name for a restaurant, right?).

I also needed the utmost comfort psychologically, so a Jammy Dress was definitely going to be needed. I chose this striped concoction so that I could wear my new yellow Fluevogs.
If there is no sunshine, I can at least wear it on my feet, right?

  • Dress - InWear; last seen here (2nd outfit) in November 2023
  • Boots - F-Trip Etta, Fluevog; purchased here for $249.00
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in October

Despite a tint of blue in the morning sky, there's no sunshine on the Castle.
But the warm light in the tower window reminds me that there is always hope. Keep the lights on!

I wanted and needed to not be seen - which seems contradictory when I'm wearing a dress this boldly striped.
Razzle Dazzled camouflage is what I'm deploying, described here (Wiki link 'cause I love) as:

complex patterns of geometric shapes in contrasting colours interrupting and intersecting each other.

It was used on battleships in WWI and a bit in WWII - the intent is not to conceal, but to confuse the eye and make the target harder to fire upon.
My trick here is that the eye goes straight to the pattern, not to the person.

Yeah, I'd rather just not face things right now.
I'll hide in my razzle dazzle, thank you.

Incognito.
Despite the grey outside, I'm defiantly sporting yellow. You can't steal my sunshine.

Voila!
I walked to work in my boots - again! - but caught a cab home after our lovely long dinner. The boots softened up nicely over the day, and are very comfy.

How I'm really feeling.
Here's an interesting fact - did you know that during WWII, Allied and Resistance women wore red lipstick to stand up against fascism and as a symbol of strength?  Link here to Snopes, which rates this as true. I'm on board for that, and I'll wear my rebellion and protest on my face, thank you very much.

Accoutrements:
My "Charlie Brown" scarf makes me happy. Zig-zag goes well with razzle dazzle.

  • Scarf - Pierre Cardin, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Wool gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
My boots were hugely popular with the folks in my office. Everyone loves yellow.

Amber bling:
Oops, missed the earrings - they're my small square ones.

  • Amber/gold spider brooch - Russian, consignment
  • Nu-wite/glass bangle - R&G Co., vintage 1920s, vintage mall
  • Amber bracelet - consignment
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop
  • Amber/silver thumb ring - consignment
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Sweden, vintage mall
  • Silver/amber ring - Past Times, 1996, gift from L
  • Silver/amber earrings - thrifted

Some of my amber "set" - it's as close to yellow as I have in my fall/winter jewelry.

And finally, here's a sweet picture of Vizzini, King of the Laundry Pile, to offer you comfort.
"All the purrs to you, my awesome fans."

The world moves on, life continues, and the only thing we can really control is ourselves. Hang in there, my friends. Sending all the good vibes.

  1. Oh my gosh, we are both wearing our black and white striped jammy dresses! Well, you wore yours Wednesday and l am wearing mine today, Thursday, but it feels like we chose in synch! Now that made me smile. :)

I’ve long been a fan of your dress and the boots are perfect! I love the bright yellow and they look like they’d suffice for rain boots, as well. Am also smitten by your scarf and, as you know, your jewelry. From my perspective, jewelry provides pizzazz along with armor. Your amber jewelry (and copper, turquoise and silver) always wows.

Am off to do something proactive (helping to cure ballots) with the hope that we may yet win the House! Thank you, Sheila, for all your energy in maintaining your blog and substack. We all have places to which we turn for comfort and inspiration; your spaces provide that for me.
    Hugs, Laurie

    1. That's so awesome, Laurie - and I hope you razzle dazzle everyone you see! I loved the boots but I don't think I would wear them in anything more than a sprinkle of rain (that's patent leather, not plastic).
The jewelry is always the finishing touch to me - I love those sets.
Good for you, Laurie! Sending you good vibes! Aw, thank you - it's good to have distractions from the ugly things in life. <3

  3. I spent all of yesterday in mourning. I just don’t understand how this could have happened. That monster told everyone who he was and what he was going to do, and they still elected him. I’m worried for my granddaughters and my LGBTQIA+ friends and family. We have begun a very sure decline in this country in so many ways, chief among them women’s rights and kindness. But, on to your look…I love the bold stripes going this way and that. But, those boots!! We all need something cheerful on our feet, don’t we? Believe it or not, my day begins with your blog! I’ve only just realized how to comment with all my info! Duh!

    1. It's not so much that they voted for him as AGAINST Kamala, Marsha. I worry for all the vulnerable people and the erosion of their rights as human beings. Aw, that's so sweet! I'm glad to see you back here regularly!

  9. Thank you for the condolences and for brightening the world with your sunshine. We need your energy! I'm grateful for this space to enjoy something for even a few brief moments a day. I'll be here in America, leading the revolution. For me it starts with love. Sending love to everyone who needs it <3

    1. Thank you, K! Just like in the pandemic, I aim to be a little bit of colour hiding out in my corner of the blogosphere.

  10. Thank you Sheila for your kind words and sympathy. I am proud that half of our county is accepting this with class and moving forward. Had the shoe been on the other foot, we would have seen a very different behavior. Incognito is a good way to be right now.

It beggars belief that he gained votes!
Your camo look is great and looks super! I'm a fan of that- also makes the boots POP!!
Sorry to hear you don't want to be looked at. Whatever is going on, I send hugs and happy thoughts! I'm a bit behind with blog reading. Kezzie xx

    1. It was a shocking disappointment, Kezzie. Thank you so much - not being looked at...more like not wanting to deal with people at the time. Nothing bad going on otherwise.
