Monday Classic Plaid and Leather

Monday's here and I felt the need for a classic plaid, in the form of this skirt that I picked up over the weekend. New Fluevogs? Too much pressure! I'm not ready!
This is the type of office look I did for years and years in the Before Times, but which now feels not so much me. Colleague Vizz (a real person, not the cat) loved this outfit.

  • Leather studded jacket - Michael Kors, consignment; last worn here in March over my Kenzo tiger dress
  • Blouse - Nygard Black Label, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in February with black, green and copper
  • Wool-blend skirt - Totonko, vintage 00s, thrifted; purchased here for $9.00
  • Tall leather boots - Stuart Weitzman, consignment; last worn here in September with COS velvet
  • Leather coat (below) - Jeno de Paris, vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in September

I really wanted to wear a band t-shirt with this - that would be more me.
But I settled for trading out "real" shoes for these over-the-knee ones.

Leather, studs and tall boots for the badassery.
The skirt was good. Not too tight, good pockets.

I didn't take the studded leather jacket off at all, but here's the outfit without it. Note the belt over the high waist - I did this back in the late 80s/early 90s all the time.
This blouse is still useful to me, but when I retire I'll pass it along. That (retirement) won't be happening any time soon, however.

Outerwear - it was very windy with torrential downpour on the way to work. My leather coat dried out during the day.
On the walk home, it was merely windy.

Accoutrements:
I was snug and warm, and the hat stayed on well in the swirling breezes.

  • Scarf - Pierre Cardin, vintage 80s, Mom's
  • Hat - Delux, Saanich Fair, c. 2008
  • Leather gloves - Roeckl, consignment

The stuff:
I like the look of very tall boots but they take up a lot of room when I pack my bag. I roll the legs up tightly to squeeze them in.

  • Grommet belt - gift from Ruth
  • Skinny belt - Nygard

Blurry bling:
I was holding Vizzini when I took this - I blame his purring for the blurring.

  • Fingerprint earrings - Daisung Kim, MoMA, thrifted; purchased here for $2.00
  • Silver/green stone ring - consignment, Sidney
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair

  3. The skirt seems like the perfect plaid skirt! Wow, the boots are impressive when seeing them close up; I like the sheen and the crinkle. Definitely adds a bit of badassery! (That’s a great word Sheila!)
We voted, 4th and 5th, and now I’m off to do my last stint volunteering for the NC Voter Hotline.

    1. It's definitely up there - I have a few plaid skirts! Yes, love that detail. Feel free to adopt "badassery" for your own use, Laurie!

  4. Oh, that jacket is fab! I love the studs and how it takes your skirt and blouse to that badass look. Love how the plaids match, too…that always drives me crazy. I won’t even buy the thing if the plaids (or even stripes) don’t match unless it’s intentional. It’s rainy here in Central Indiana, but warm for the beginning of November. I’m anxiously awaiting tomorrow morning…cautiously optimistic we will have some blue and not orange in the White House.

    1. Thanks so much, Marsha! I especially like that the studs go around to the back of the neck and back of the hem - I loathe when designers "forget" about the rear view. I'm also always watching for lined-up patterns.
      Good luck!!

  6. The leather jacket and over-the-knee boots definitely lift this outfit, Sheila, and it's always a joy to see your teal leather trench. I'm forever on the lookout for something similar, so far without success. That said, I'm in desperate need of some second-hand shopping ... xxx

  7. You inspired me to dig out the tartan skirts lurking at the back of the Kinky Shed and list them on Vinted - I sold the lot! xxx
