Two Bites: Marni and Emmanuel Ungaro

Today's 'fit was based on this gorgeous new-to-me vintage Emmanuel Ungaro striped skirt.
I have studied my fashion history and when I see one of the classics in a thrift store, I bite!

  • Sweater top - Marni, thrifted, Vancouver; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September 2023 with Adidas tulle for a trip to the mall
  • Skirt - Emmanuel Ungaro, vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $34.95
  • Shoes - Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last seen here in May with my Firecracker dress
  • Jacket (below) - Adidas, thrifted, Vancouver; first worn here (2nd outfit) in April in a very funky mix

I also had to bite on this Marni top found last summer in a thrift store in Vancouver with my girlfriends.
It was $35.00 - high for a so-called thrift store - but I know quality when I see it or feel it.

The skirt is vintage 90s by Emmanuel Ungaro - a very classic designer who worked for Cristobal Balenciaga and Courreges, and achieved peak influence in the 80s with his ultra-shoulder-padded designs. And he was one of the French designers in the famous fashion "Battle of Versailles"!
My skirt is from his "Parallele" ready-to-wear collection, launched in 1989. Source here, link 'cause I love.

It's a little big on me, but it has zero stretch - it's 100% linen - and I appreciate the extra room. I do a lot of physical work at my office - I need to bend and stretch!
It's a hypnotic stripe. Perfectly lined up on every seam too. Such quality - it's made in Italy.

It was too chilly not to have some sort of jacket. Ta-dah!
I love black and white pattern mixing.

The stuff:
"Great shoes," said L in the morning, as we briefly saw each other. I wear these all the time!

Green bling:
The Marni top has green in the pattern of the cotton sleeves, so I like picking that out for my accessories.

  • Earrings - vintage, consignment
  • Cocktail ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Coral/olivine ring - Hawaii, c. 1977, Mom's
  • Green stone bracelet - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Eelskin bracelet - vintage 80s, thrifted

  1. I’m curious about the color of the Marni top. In the stair photo I see red yet for the indoor photos I see orange. Also fascinates me how light impacts color, not to mention a digital screen. ;)

Wow, yes, the stripe alignment on the skirt is impressive, and three cheers for comfortable fabric that embraces movement! Am a fan of your earrings. :) And I smile to admit you’ve made an adidas fan out of me. ;)
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. It's a coral-orange - the indoor pictures don't capture the redder tones in it (and I don't colour-correct those pics - the stair pic is always the most accurate, colourwise).

I adore the earrings - I feel like a 70s swinger in them. :) Ha! Welcome to the club! I don't like ALL Adidas, but when they have quirky pieces, I'll always snap them up.

    2. Ah, thanks for the clarification. And I’m glad because I love the colors in the stair picture, vibrant and deep. :)
