What a weird day it's been! So much stuff going on!
First, it's my good buddy Nick's birthday, and also my 11 year anniversary of the day I started WW. Yay, him, yay, me! I wore this fun vintage outfit for my meeting tonight...which was cancelled due to a flood in the centre where our meeting is!
I hung out near the front entrance to let my members know and to chat with them if they needed to talk, but then walked home (sweaty!).- Blouse - H&M, thrifted; last seen here (4th outfit) on my June staycation
- Faux Batik Skirt - no label, vintage late 50s, thrifted; first worn here in with this same blouse (I'm so creative)
- Shoes - Gap, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) on the July long weekend for drinks with friends
It's still very hot (30+) today, so light clothes were in order! I don't care that I wore this exact top/bottom combo together - I am wearing different shoes, at least. It was delightful and swooshy. I may have twirled for a coworker or three.
It remains very hazy outside and it still smells like smoke from the cloud that's drifted down from the wildfires that have been (and still are) raging in the forested interior of the province. Check out a picture from NASA here, and this is what we're dealing with!
That top red circle? That's the southern tip of Vancouver Island, and my city (Victoria) is under that big cloud. Nope, I can't see my house from here. That grey stuff is slightly ashy - it's leaving a coating on cars, and there's icky brown gunk in my nose!
The bottom circle is Seattle (to give you an idea of distance/size) and the white spots are snow-capped mountains - really! The ones south of Victoria are the Olympic Mountains, the one beside Seattle is Mount Rainier, and the one to the east of Victoria, on the mainland, is Mount Baker (here's a picture of it taken from my recent trip to Sidney, also under that cloud).
A bizarre sweaty day, in all. And, as I was standing outside my meeting centre talking to my friend Yvonne, a stranger walked past and said, "Your hair! Your glasses! You're so much awesome in one person!"
It's a real circle skirt! |
I was in my hat and runners too, and much more...glowing...than this!
The stuff:
Awesome wooden wedges. You could really hear me clomping up and down the stairs at work. I love when shoes make authoritative noise (as opposed to fart noises, very different!).
Copper bling:
I did less copper bling than the last time I wore this outfit too. My hands are too puffy for rings.
- Hinged cuff - Renoir, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
- Enameled cuff - Matisse, vintage 60s, vintage fair
- Enameled earrings - Matisse, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
This morning, I couldn't find Vizzini - he wasn't in any of his usual spots. L told me he was under the bed, so of course I crawled under and took a picture of him - this rotten beast wakes me up at 5am regularly. Heh. He owes me a picture.
"Who DARES disturb my slumber?" |
Yeah, I totally used the flash. He loves that.
As an added bonus, you can see some of my winter clothes packed away in those tubs and boxes under the bed.
"I am flipping you the bird, and I'm not talking about that *&^@ crow outside." |
My friends, I will be back on Monday - it's a long weekend here in smoky BC - with tales of my shenanigans! Have a wonderful weekend!
I love your skirt! I love the pattern and especially the fact that you can twirl in it! Perfect for a hot day! Love the copper bling too. I love that a stranger walking past complimented you. That's wonderful! It's amazing how a random kind word can do wonders. Hope the smoke clears soon!

Thanks, Sasha! It's funny how random compliments from strangers can mean so much and have so much impact!
DeleteLove the picture of you holding up the sides of the circle skirt. Superb!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, Ally!
DeleteHoney, this outfit is pure class! Love it.
ReplyDeleteHa, well, I am super-klassy, you know.
DeleteI am loving your longer hair !
ReplyDeleteIt is HOT!!! and I am trying to stay cool...
Congrats to your 11 years at WW!
Thanks, L! It's taking so long to grow out...
DeleteI know, so HOT! Thank you - I can't believe it's been that long. Where does the time go?
That skirt is so wonderful! & I agree with the random stranger, and with you that random compliments are A Very Good Thing!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Radostin! I'm going to make sure I give a random compliment today, to give that good karma back!
DeleteOh what a nice thing for that stranger to say ! That printed skirt is a true gem and that cat cracks me up. He's got strong personality.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? It made my day! I love the skirt, and Mr. Vizzini is such a character. So much personality!
DeleteI love that skirt! Isn't it great to get a random compliment from a stranger. It can reallyh make your day, which is why I try to give compliments to people if I like what I'm seeing. Aw, Vizzini! Cats can be so cute, even when they're being a nuisance ... xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love that it's so old, but still looks so fresh and new. I know, random compliments seem to somehow be more meaningful than compliments from people you know. Why is that, I wonder? Good for you for passing that karma along.
DeleteVizzini is a monster, but he's OUR monster and we do love him.
Long time lurker, first time commenter. You are just amazing.
ReplyDeleteAw! Thank you so much for de-lurking and leaving me a comment! I really appreciate your kind words, thank you.
DeleteI really like the skirt and top together so it makes sense you would work it again! I do the same thing often, just swap out accessories so it's a 'new' outfit!
ReplyDeleteIt was sweet of a stranger to say that to you - especially after you no doubt felt a little annoyed you were flooded out and couldn't properly celebrate your WW anniversary! I often want to give compliments to strangers but rarely do - I sometimes feel self conscious afterwards for 'interrupting' them even if they were just walking by themselves or waiting for a bus or something. I try give them an extra big smile when I pass instead, ha!
Thanks, Mica! It's okay to wear the same stuff together, but I do like to try to make a few things different. I didn't mind missing a meeting (they are exhausting), but that comment really made my day. I'll often holler at strangers, ha!
DeleteYou are a true gem. Love your style love your blog. Would love to meet you and raid your closet. And above all love your Vinizze. He looks just like my Beau Beau who passed away last month.Same attitude and looks. Wish I could hug him one more time.I will just have to enjoy keeping tabs on your fur baby. Bless you and L have a good weekend....

Thank you so much, Donna! Ha, stay out of my closet! Aw, I'll give Vizzini extra hugs for your Beau Beau, so sad. Thank you very much for commenting!
DeleteSheila,
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I visited your blog, (soooooo much fun to catch up on!) I just wanted to compliment you on your hair! It looks sooo pretty! There is a lot of AWESOME in one person in you, compliments ANOTHER random stranger....
Sorry that you're dealing with flooding and that horrible smoke! You've been in my thoughts as I watch news reports. Glad you, L, and Vizzini are all safe and sound.
Looking forward to catching up on all your wonderfulness!
Larissa
Larissa, so lovely to see you! Thanks very much - purple hair is treating me well. Ah, the flood is not my problem (and it will be taken care of by next week), and the smoke has eased up a bit. Thank you for your good thoughts!
DeleteHey I was wondering how you were fairing with the smoke and the weather. Oddly enough my first time to Vashon Island was last week amidst the heat and I left on the hottest and smokiest day! I love your blog Sheila and continue to be inspired by your unique quirky fashion sense.
ReplyDeleteKathryn, great to see you and thank you for commenting! I've never been to Vashon Island, sounds interesting!
DeleteThe guy that paid you the compliment was so right. And yes we should all do that. I do! Constantly. Very rewarding to make somebody happy.
ReplyDeleteGreetje
PS love this putdit and especially the shoes!
Yes, it was really sweet of her! Thanks, Greetje!
DeleteLove that fabulous skirt, I am glad to see the half twirl anyway! Perfect styling as usual . I am sorry
ReplyDeleteAbout the weather, that does look rather ominous , speaking if which, I saw An Inconvenient Sequel and it was so well done, a must see.
VIzzini owes you big time for waking you up at the uncivilized hour of 5 am! Good thing he has gorgeous eyes and a sweet nature.
WW ? I better read up on your about me page.. weight watchers, maybe... you are so thin, the suspense is killing me so I am going to your page now.
It is actually pleasant in New York ...huh?
Love, Elle

Thanks, Elle! It's been weird, with this haze everywhere. Yes, Vizzini is a monster, but so cute. WW is indeed Weight Watchers - I lost 50 lbs 11 years ago.
DeleteSeems like BC now has to deal with wildfires every year (but noooo, climate change is not real). I would find it very frightening if I lived there.
ReplyDeleteAs for the not-so-serious stuff, that is an excellent twirling skirt and it looks very pretty with the cream blouse. I love that comment about you being so much awesome in one person - you absolutely are!
Ugh, it's just awful - all the weather forecasts are for "smoke." We're fine here in the city, but out in the middle of the province and in the forested areas it's pretty scary stuff.
DeleteThank you! I do appreciate it!
