Happy Birthday to me! It was a treat to have the day off and to be able to spend it with Mom...and the kittens!
Mom gave me a Fluevog gift card, some fluffy warm socks with cats on them and a bag of chocolates - all of my favourite things! Thank you so much, Mom! I especially liked the card, which was perfect.
My day started with our cleaners, who were greeted with curiosity and friendly sniffs of the cleaners. Michael and Ashley fell in love with Whateley and Barnabas, of course.
And then I played around in my closet, creating an outfit suitable for the day. This skirt had to be part of it!
- Bomblazer - Zara, consignment; first worn here in September with wacky pants
- Tee - Banksy 2005 exhibit merch, consignment; first seen here in August with jeans at the office
- Skirt - Erdem, consignment; last worn here in March with cowgirl vibes
- Boots - Prepare 2.0 Tracker, Fluevog; last seen here in January with a lot of blue and red
I always think fondly of our Tweed photoshoot (link here if you missed it) whenever I wear this skirt.
I like the mix of luxe fabric - the brocade is practically 3D on this, and note the sheer Swiss dot fabric in those box pleats.
Still pushing boundaries at 58!
I went with double the belts, because...why not?
The bomblazer worked much better this time - I enjoyed the ultra-cropped oversized fit.
I had rapturous reactions to my outfit at Christie's and Pocket Clothing, where I stopped for a wee shop on the way home ('twouldn't be my birthday without a wee shop!). My outerwear ensemble includes a big velvet ruffled scarf and leather driving gloves.
And a giant 80s eelskin purse.

Love those boots. Very comfy.

Mom arrived and I positioned the chair for her so she could get to see and play with the cats.
They both greeted her at the door (many sniffs), then buzzed around the living room area. Whateley checked her out from atop the scratching post house.Mom teased them with an old robe sash, a favourite toy.
They both wacked and clawed, scampering away and coming back for more.

Mom's a pro at entertaining kitties!
They were both very interested in her walking poles, chewing on the rubber feet. Little monsters!

But of course, they are kittens and easily distracted.
After laughing and tracking them around (seriously, Kitten TV should be a thing), we went for lunch at Christie's Pub.

"Happy Birthday!"
Thank you so much for the wonderful lunch, Mom! I love you!
I splurged on a salmon burger with onion rings; Mom had a salad, but I see that onion ring hiding on the side!
I walked home and of course I stopped in at Pocket to say hi to Annie and have a look around. Staff Mimi and Nate were lovely, thank you, hi!
I recognized this gorgeous sheer brown ruffle-front blouse for amazing quality and design.
Ruffles at the cuffs and what's that at the bottom? The buttons say RL Ralph Lauren. Guess who it's by!
Showing the faint gold line on some of the design. The texture of the blouse is slightly wrinkly all over.

I noticed that there was a store address on the back of the tag - that should help date it.
Yup, they vacated the lease in 2018, as noted in this WWD article here (very interesting read), so it's no later than that. The style is heavily reminiscent of the early 00s.
It probably came with a camisole, and this is likely where it was secured, removable for washing.
So much hand-done detail.
Of course, it's Lauren Ralph Lauren, and it was $42.00. Not cheap but this is a consignment store - they have so much good stuff!
Worth every penny. I can't wait to wear it!

I definitely had to have this amazing hip-bag/cross-body bag.
It's very soft fuzzy faux-fur. The bottom pocket is huge (fits my phone). And inside the main section, there's another zip pocket. The big industrial zippers are very well-made.
It's by Niko and..., a brand I've never heard of. It says, " to be pure and natural, old and new, warm and cool, classic and trendy, simple and sophisticated, to be myself...it's 25% combination. Est. 2007. Cool & Slow Life. www.nikoand.jp"

It's a Japanese brand, still around. It was $28.00.
I've been eyeing this silver and turquoise bracelet for months, and finally decided, what the heck, it's my birthday, I'm buying it.
$68.00 is a bit, but I know I'll wear this a bunch.

DeleteHappy birthday Sheila. You rock 58. Rgds Lise
ReplyDeleteSo appreciate that, thank you, Lise!
DeleteHappy Birthday! You look fabulous! Love every tiny detail of this outfit. Enjoy your birthdy weekend! Vicki In Asheville
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Vicki!
DeleteCheers and hugs for you and your glorious H A P P Y 🎈B I R T H D A Y !! May your kitties provide you with multiple meows. 😽😻
ReplyDeleteYay for your birthday outfit! I immediately recognized your skirt from the fashion photo shoot and renewed my appreciation for the pleats and their sheer dotted fabric in-between. Your boots! Lace stockings! Triple brooches that should remain permanently on the black jacket! I like the proportions of the jacket with this skirt, they each hold their own while also standing out - not an easy feat to accomplish in my experience.
Hi Helen! I am a big believer that Moms should celebrate themselves a bit on their child's birthday because, you know, without the Mom… So, Happy Birthing Day to you Helen! And the selfie of the two of you says it all! ❤️ I see many more visits to Sheila's so you, Whateley and Barnabas can become good friends. :-) Your lunches look delicious; Fred and I LOVE salmon burgers and have them every other week.
Sheila thanks for sharing the article about the fashion industry and 550 7th Ave. It was, as you noted, a rather interesting article not only for folks who follow the industry but for folks like me - lifelong New Yorkers. My favorite haul of your wee shop is the bracelet. Like you, I am a big fan of turquoise and especially when it is mixed with silver.
Something tells me your celebrating is not yet done ;-) and I eagerly await reading tales of your weekend!
Cheers, Laurie
Big hugs to you, thank you, Laurie! The kitties are the best present I ever could have asked for. :)
DeleteI loved the triple brooches, and will do that again (I rarely leave a brooch on a garment permanently).
Yes to Mom getting kudos too! We had such a lovely visit and a wonderful time together.
Right, forgot you were a New Yorker! I've been looking at that bracelet for ages...this shop is deadly for jewelry (my stone/carved bangles are all from there).
Our weekend is packed with celebrations and good times! Lots of cat pictures ahead!
Happy birthday Sheila!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Charlotte!
DeleteHappy Birthday, my fabulous friend!
ReplyDeleteIts wonderful to see your mum bonding with the kitties - they're such bundles of energy at that age, aren't they?
You both looked fabulous, I love those glossy stompy boots, I need some! The RL blouse and the Mexican bangle were fantastic finds.
Have a fantastic birthday weekend! xxx
Thank you, Vix! Yes, the kittens are so much fun at this age, so full of beans!
DeleteI appreciate the love for the stompy boots! Thanks!
Happy birthday Sheila!
ReplyDeleteYour birthday outfit is fabulous in every way!
Sounds like you had the perfect birthday: a day off spent with your Mom and the kittens, a delicious lunch and a wee shop! What's not to like?
Loving the ruffle front blouse and that stunning silver and turquoise bracelet, which of course you had to buy yourself for your birthday! xxx
Thanks so much, Ann! It was fun to revisit that skirt (and of course, I had to reread our photoshoot day!). It was a wonderful day full of good times and presents and love, just the BEST.
DeleteThank you!
Sounds like a happy day and I do approve of treating yourself to the bracelet you had your eye on for so long! Looking at one of the photos of your Mom, a shadow made me think she was wearing drop earrings and I wondered if she ever does? I think she could really rock them!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I did deserve that bracelet, thank you for the affirmation, Bushlady! Mom is very allergic to most metals, and gave up on earrings a long time ago. She used to wear clip-ons, but now necklaces are her thing.
DeleteHappiest of birthdays to you, Sheila!! You look fab, as always. You've been my fashion icon for well over a decade and I love watching your style evolve.
ReplyDeleteThank you also for sharing your mom-days <3 I miss my mom-days, and every time you share one of yours, I feel closer to my mom. You're such a wonderful daughter and I love seeing you both enjoy time together!
Also, yay for kittens always!
Aw, thank you, K! Good to see you, and THANK YOU for being here for so long! It's been a journey, hasn't it?
DeleteI've heard that from other readers - I'm so grateful to have Mom with me, and to spend time with her. I know one day I'll look back at these pictures and remember all our good times together.
Hooray for kittens!
Happy birthday! Mine is next week, and I'll be a few years older than you (rather more than a few actually). That skirt...I recognized it as soon as I saw it! It's amazing. I love the bomblazer...since I'm only 5'1" I love cropped anything! Have a fabulous birthday weekend!

Happy birthday, Marsha! I thought a few folks might recognize the skirt from our moment of fame (no fortune, sadly). I'm only 5'4", so same, I love cropped.
DeleteHappy birthday Sheila! I see you had a great day and you probably will celebrate more on the weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Nancy! I did!
DeleteHappy Birthday dear Sheila! So much love in this post.<3
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, Ivana!
