Reader Request: Pirate Velvet and Oxblood Monochrome

Hello, my friends! I was out late, having dinner after work with lovely colleague Christina, so I'm tired, it's late and I don't feel like a lot of words.
Today's reader request doesn't come from anyone specifically, 'cause most of you were enthusiastic about seeing the Pirate Jacket in action right away.

  • Pirate jacket - Tahari, thrifted; purchased here for $32.95
  • Silk tux blouse - no label, consignment; last worn here in November 2022 with that fabulous bronze skirt
  • Skirt - Jez, vintage 80s, thrifted; first seen here in February with roses
  • Shoes - Queen of Prussia Louise, Fluevog; last worn here in January with difficult stripes (I let that sweater go)

Another gorgeous day today.
Sunrise on the Castle.

I had lunch out with my boss today - I told him he had to treat me for my 10th anniversary with the company. Last week was my 12th anniversary, so we were long overdue.
We laughed and chatted and ate delicious pizza at the Tapa Bar for an hour and a half before we reluctantly returned to the office.

I had to wear my Pirate Jacket today - it's so darned awesome.
Everyone wanted to touch it. Silk velvet!

I love the pockets.
I decided to go with a monochrome look, incorporating this oxblood leather skirt, my burgundy blouse and shoes, and my fishnet tights.

This stretch silk blouse has been with me since 2017 (Flashback here from 2021).
I liked the mixed shades.

Incognito...speaking of shades (har har). I wore the Pirate Jacket as my outerwear.
I bused home after dinner with Christina - didn't even need the scarf and gloves by then.

Accoutrements:
Getting a wearing in of this lovely silk burnout velvet scarf, rediscovered and now residing on my scarf CD shelf.

  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Danier Leather

The stuff:
I wasn't sure if I could handle these heels all day, but I walked a fair bit and, while my feet are tired now, I don't have any foot pain. They're so well-balanced, and that front section is a nice squishy platform.

Black bling:
To match the embroidery on the Pirate Jacket.

  • Jet/crystal necklace - vintage 50s/60s, Grandma J's
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall

Someone stuck his face in the camera as the timer was going off.
"What's all that beeping?"

Vizzini, you goober, give me a cuddle.
"Put me down this instant, Woman!"

We always have to have our morning cuddles, then I settle him down on the bed for a hard day of sleeping.

  4. This is a stunning outfit…you could be a spy, a high powered executive, someone who likes to look fabulous, or any number of possibilities! Definitely a good “having lunch with the boss” outfit, and kudos to you for 12(!) years on the job.

I see a nice future for the pirate jacket. :)

    1. It feels badass, Vix, you know how certain jackets do that. Agreed, Mister Vizz is the cherry on top.

    1. Thank you, Ann! I may need to keep this jacket out for spring - can I really wait until next Sept to wear it again?

Vizzini is such a silly thing. :)

  8. This outfit is perfect for that beautiful jacket and I like that you have so many burgundy pieces that you can create an outfit like this, it's a great colour on you. I have been trying to think about colours of pieces more when browsing in the opshops but it's really tricky sometimes. When I go to the one that has all clothes for $1 for example it's easy to get carried away, haha! I'm a lot pickier and usually walk away empty handed if it's one of those opshops where things can cost more than retail.

    1. None of the burgundies match, Mica - I just grabbed everything that was dark wine/red/purple and hoped for the best. I agree that it really helps to have a colour palette in mind when thrifting. It's easy to pick up cool things, but then you have nothing to wear with them!
