Linen Firecracker

Another day, another wildly-patterned dress!
I call this one my Firecracker dress, as that's what the print reminds me of. I think it's supposed to be abstract flowers.

  • Dress - JG Hook, thrifted; last worn here for my day trip to Vancouver in June 2019 to meet Melanie and Shelley
  • Shoes - Effortless Bebe, Fluevog; last seen here in April with sunny chartreuse and tweed
  • Coat (below) - Stop Staring!, thrifted; last worn here in April

This seagull was watching me as I did my stair picture.
"Eh? Who goes there?"

He's standing on one leg!

This sumptuously heavy frock is 100% linen, really thick and lovely to wear.
When L gave me a hug goodbye this morning, he noted how nice it felt. Quality fabric, darlin'!

It has a big full skirt, good for swooshing.
It wraps at the top (no pin needed), and has ties at the waist - it only looks like a full wrap-around dress, but it really has a side zip-up.
Because it has so many colours in it - two shades of pink, blue, red, green and black - it goes with a lot, same as yesterday's dress. The busy pattern hides any wrinkles (linen=wrinkles).

Outerwear - I didn't need the coat on the way home, but I definitely did in the morning.
I guess wishing for the weather to be stable is a fool's game!

The stuff:
I love these shoes - this is 21st wearing of them! They've proven to be very versatile.

Bold bling:
Just your standard Wonder Woman cuffs.

  • Blue cuff - thrifted
  • Steel cuff - thrifted
  • Glass/silver earrings - local
  • Onyx/silver ring - Tocarra, vintage fair
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

And now...a day off.

  1. I love that dress, it's got a real 1940s vibe going on. I can see that the quality is fabulous even without hugging you! The coat s very klassy, too.
21 wears is brilliant for those shoes, they still look like new.
Is the seagull pretending to be a flamingo? Silly boy! xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Vix! I love the classic 40s silhouette. I know, I was so pleased when I counted up my wearings.

      Seagulls are weird birds.

  3. Linen! As you know, my study of flax/fashion-history led me to a deep appreciation of this fabric. I'm looking to add new linen pieces to my wardobe.

  4. If Monet had painted pinwheel fireworks onto fabric he would have created your dress!

  5. Whether they are firecrackers or abstract flowers, the print on that dress is absolutely fabulous. It's gorgeous on you too, and I agree with Vix that it's got a certain 40s vibe. Such a wonderfully flattering shape. Same goes for that marvellous coat. What a silly seagull, though. Well, they are silly creatures at the best of times! Hope you've having a lovely day off! xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Cheryene! I love a swooshy skirt. I laughed at his "flamingo" pose. Wonder Woman cuffs say, "Don't mess with me!"

    1. Thanks so much, Monica! Same here - it ticks all my boxes...except for pockets. If it had pockets, it would be an A+! Thanks, I love these shoes.

  9. Great dress. Love the pattern but somehow... I don't know? Shorter (knee high)? Higher heels? I don't know. Just something that pops up in my head but I cannot support the feeling with arguments as it is a great dress. Strange.

    1. Yeah, I get where you're coming from, Greetje. The proportions are slightly off, probably because I'm 5'4" instead of 5'8"! The length is a bit long on me, which could be fixed with a higher heel. It would look amazing on YOU, you tall person!

  11. That is one gorgeous dress. I love the abstract flower design, so pretty. The colours on this pattern are beautiful. I like how you call this dress your firecracker dress. From afar, it does look a bit like firecrackers. The red heels you paired with this dress are lovely. I also love your grey coat that looks just like a dress. I need one of those dress coats, they're so feminine and chic. Have a great weekend ahead!

    1. Thank you so much, Ivana! I was drawn to this pattern right away - of course, it's flowers, but my eye likes to play with patterns, so firecrackers! The shoes are actually a deep metallic pink. I have a bit of a pink shoe thing, ha ha!

I love a feminine dress coat - they are hard to find!

      Thank you, you too!

  12. That dress is definitely one of your go-to's - flattering fit, quality fabric and a print with POW! I think L is one of the few men I know that would actually notice if a fabric feels good.

    1. Totally true! When I shop, I feel for quality fabric. There's not always much out there, but I'll always take a second look at any natural fibre, whether that's linen, silk, cotton, cashmere, wool or even viscose.

    2. What a marvelous dress.
I do love a good fabric, in fact running my fingers through the clothes racks and suddenly touching the ONE makes me stop and pull out the garment and take a second look.

    3. Isn't it lovely, Lorena? I also love good fabrics, and I do the same thing! I can pick out the silk and cashmere in seconds.
