Zig-Zags, St. Paddy's Flashbacks, and Cat Pictures

Today, all the restaurants closed in Victoria. The schools are closed, most  shops are closed. The office was deader than yesterday.
L and I are fine, not sick, and we have lots of food and toilet paper. The world has gone zig-zag and so has my sweater.

  • Sweater - Bernice Creations, vintage 70s, vintage fair; purchased here for $10.00
  • Skirt - J. Crew, thrifted; last worn here in February with floral and brocade
  • Shoes - Channi B; last seen here in February in day to night looks
  • Coat (below) - Jeno de Paris, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here a couple of weeks ago

My friends, these are stressful times, aren't they? I find that blogging is actually really helpful to keep my spirits up - thank you all so much for the comments and for letting me know that it's helping you too! I plan on continuing my regular schedule, pandemic and all. Vesto ergo sum! (I dress, therefore I am).
Some St. Paddy's Day outfit, sheesh! I've had much greener ones. Shall we have a little walk down Memory Lane?

  • 2019: It landed on a Sunday. No outfit. Lame!
  • 2018: here (2nd outfit), for a Saturday brunch.
  • 2017: here. Huh, zero effort that year, I see.
  • 2016: here, with green sweater (aw, that's the one that just died) and shoes.
  • 2015: here. I still have those shoes and that skirt.
  • 2014: here. That's a bit of a mess. I wouldn't wear this outfit now.
  • 2013: here, during the brief period that I was blonde. I still have that skirt and those shoes, also worn a year later.
  • 2012: here (2nd outfit), with barely any green. I miss those boots - I thrashed them, and gave them to my coworker Christine, so I still get to visit when she wears them.
  • 2011: here, and it's two green outfits in one post! I still have the bigass rose and the jewelry.
  • 2010: here, same sweater that I wore the next year, and crazy faux leather green croc boots. Those killed my feet, I recall.
  • 2009: here, because I accidentally wore my green outfit the day prior, here

Well, I guess my memory failed me - not all of those were very green!
Anyhoo, today's outfit was about styling up this vintage 70s zig-zag sweater. Isn't it lovely? I wore a vintage cami under it as you can see that the knit is open in the pattern in vertical stripes.

My cream wool pencil skirt is so perfect. I'm always looking to upgrade my basics, and this one is the apex of cream pencil skirts. Zippers! Wool! Pocket! So pretty.
Since the shoes went so well with the sweater, why not belt it? I felt it added a bit of symmetry and emphasized the teal.

Outerwear - More people probably saw me in this than saw me in my un-coated outfit.
It was beautiful and sunny walking home and I wore the coat open.

  • Scarf - vintage fair
  • Gloves - Danier Leather

It was chilly in the morning, and I was fully done up - my galloping horse scarf at my throat.
Of course, I had my floral Doc Martens on for walking, but I did pop out briefly in these shoes to pick up a supply of junk food and chocolate for the weekend ahead.

The stuff:
I love these shoes - they're one of my favourites in my closet, but I'll be packing them away for spring/summer soon. They are a little visually heavy for warm weather, in my opinion, plus I have so many other shoes that need to come out to play!

Snaky bling:
Snakeskin belt, ring and earrings. Snakes are like zig-zags, right?

  • Belt - Emmanuel, vintage 80s, thrifted, vintage fair
  • Snake ring - BC Museum Gift Shop, 1985
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - local

L and I are taking some extra time off over this weekend - we would normally jet off to Vancouver, meet up with friends, shop at Fluevog and all the interesting secondhand shops in Van, fly home like the fabulous folk we are, just like last year (here).
"Let me guess. It's that time of year that you leave me alone."

No! Not this year, little buddy! We're having a stay-cation this year, which means lots of movies, reading and board games. And that means "Kitty Time"!
"You wouldn't tease me, would you, Woman?"

Of course I'd tease you, Vizzini - you're a cat!

He does love a tease: mousies, catnip fish, hide and seek, you name it. He loves to play.
"It's true, I do. Are you really staying home?"

We sure are! I'm actually looking forward to it - L and I are going to go out into our neighbourhood and do some photo shoots. Good times!
"We're going outside??"

Not you, Vizzini, you scaredy-cat.

Hang in there, my friends, we can do this! I'm so thankful for the wonderful blogging community of readers and bloggers. We'll be our own sunshine in this gloom.

  2. Your accessories are such a pretty shade of green! I like that you chose an unexpected tint, not just Kelly green!

  3. I just wanted to let you know that your blog really raises my spirits, especially in these strange days. I loved the items you bought at the vintage fair on the weekend - you always buy lovely things but I think you've surpassed yourself! So glad you are both well.

  6. "The world has gone zig-zag" is priceless. I usually access your blog via a small tablet these days, one that is best as a read-only device, so I rarely comment, even when I am "wowed" by an outfit. Shame on me! ;-) Missed my tablet reading last night, so here I am with a full screen and keyboard, popping out of invisibility to join the thank-you parade and also to say that this is definitely a wow outfit. Stay well in every way!

  8. Your lovely outfit lifts my spirit too. That seventies zigzag sweater is fab and I do like the pencil skirt too. The heels are adorable. Enjoy your day. I'm glad to hear you are keeping a positive view of things. I've been very stressed with the start of an online school, I've literally been working since yesterday with little time for sleep. I have hundred of students and communicating with them all and explaining things I'm not yet sure off through a programme and computer system that isn't stable yet and is under hacker attacks has been straining to say the least.

    1. Thank you so much, Ivana! We can only control ourselves, and do the best we can to stay healthy and safe. There's no point in stressing over what we can't control.

Your work sounds so stressful. Please take care of yourself. Hug!

  9. Seeing your gorgeous St. Patrick's day outfit was a bright spot in my day, which was a bit rough. But never mind, it comes and it goes, and as long as I have wonderful blogging friends like you, I know I will get through. We will get through it together. Seriously, the zig-zag sweater is such a delight, and I love the way you styled it with the cream pencil skirt, and those gorgeous shoes and belt. Ah, and the snaky bling! I'm carrying on much as usual, the "only" difference being a big black cloud obscuring these early Spring days. I'll keep on blogging too, putting the finishing touches on tomorrow's post - should have been today, but I lacked the energy. But there will be colour, much of it, I promise! Do keep well and enjoy your time off! xxx

I hope you get some sunshine soon. We've seen some and it really does lift the spirits. Hugs and good vibes to you!

  11. This is a great jumper and I like how you've worn it even if you weren't overly green for saint Patrick's day! Our weekends are shaping up to be pretty much the same, and while I'm working from home this week the future is uncertain. I'll keep blogging as long as I'm getting dressed and going out - at the moment we still have school pickup and drop offs to do! I think blogging is such a part of my life and routine now I can't imagine not doing it - plus we need a break from all the news sometimes! I'm glad you will be continuing to blog.

  12. Thank you Sheila - you are a welcome read each day. My husband and I are in self isolation after a wonderful vacation to New Orleans. We came back and then two days later the world changed and we had to isolate. Not too bad really - it is a good time for everyone to slow down and the weather has been superb for gardening. Your outfit is outstanding - one of my favourites so far. You say the shoes are visually heavy for spring/summer but in this outfit they are the perfect balance to the sweater with the gorgeous cream skirt in the middle. Well done!

  17. I'm definitely finding my connections through blogging and IG valuable right now. It is important to stay connected however we can, and provide positive support to those who need it. Sylvester is rather confused as to why I'm home in the middle of the week, but he's getting extra treats and snuggles so he'll be fine ;). That is a great sweater - I would have grabbed it too. The colour of the leather coat is scrumptious!

  19. Great outfit, as usual!

I want to add my appreciation for your continued blogging through this crazy time. We have to bring some lightness to our lives, right?

We've had to cancel all sorts of travel plans we had for the coming weeks. My husband and I are retired now, so we were planning all sorts of fun. But home we are. . .and interesting how much our two cats are sticking ever closer; it's like they know it is a stressful time, and they are trying to help. So sweet.

    Enjoy your staycation!
