Nineties Dress

I couldn't wait to wear this awesome nineties dress today!
It was so comfy - it's definitely a jammy dress.

  • Dress - Decisions, vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here yesterday for $29.99
  • Boots - Bellevue Libby Smith, Fluevog; last seen here (4th outfit) in February with a stunning vintage dress
  • Coat (below) - Vassali, consignment; last worn here in September

I did very little to style it for its inaugural outing.
I didn't even swap out the tie belt for one of my own.

Isn't it a fun pattern?
My coworkers loved it.

I did wear a full vintage slip under it for coverage and a bit of warmth.
I think it's more of a spring dress, but I'll keep it out with the winter stuff until I need the hanger.

I swooshed it for Fiona.
She always appreciates a good swoosh.

Outerwear - I had to run back inside and grab a fuzzy beret for the spitting rain this morning.
I got soaked on the way home. All the parts, including the velvet coat are drying.

  • Pashmina - Portolano, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Beret (not shown) - Club Monaco, thrifted

The stuff:
I could have gone with a basic black, but I liked how the deeper colours of these boots went with the more pastel versions in the dress' pattern. These boots are still very comfy - no foot pain!

Delicate bling:
All more delicate than my usual style, but still me.

  • Earrings - Plum
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Francis Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence
  • Silver/amethyst ring - gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1985

  1. This dress is great and looks wonderful on you. Since clothes from the '90s came back into style, I've realized just how much I love what we wore back then. But I didn't realize it back in the actual day, funny how that works. So I've been grabbing up the '90s looks that I can find, including flatform shoes. Love how they make my 5'1" frame taller!

    1. Thank you so much, Gerrilyn! It's funny how, at the time, our clothing choices didn't seem to be things that might come back around. I loved these dresses back then, so it was a nice surprise to find a rack of them at a trendy store. I love flatforms!

  3. It's such a beautiful dress and I like how you kept it simple and just wore it with the provided belt - I can't wait to see how you wear it next time, so many fun colours in here! It looks so good on you!

    1. Isn't it lovely, Mica? I think I might style it with black for winter next time. Thank you!

  4. I freaking love it!! It reminds me of a TopShop maxi I bought in the 1990s and foolishly passed on to a friend, arghhh! The shape, the print and even the attached belt are utterly perfect.
The boots are a brilliant addition (another pair I'd willingly steal from you!) xxx

    1. I know, I had a few good things that I wish I still had from then too, Vix! This one is really nice - there are some CRAP ugly ones out there! Ha, hands off my boots, madam!

  5. That dress looks even better on. It's such a fabulous print and I love its obvious swooshiness! And it does seem to work quite well with the belt that came with it. Those gorgeous boots are just perfect with it. After Vix has stolen them from you, I'll be stealing them from her ;-) That will never work, though, with my tiny feet. xxx P.S. Loving the peek of your full vintage slip, what an amazing colour it is!

    1. Yeah, it's not a good "hanger" dress, Ann. Swooshiness always is a bonus for me. I'll probably change up the belt, layer a camisole under it (I just pinned the neckline this time) and do different shoes next time.

The slip is a browny-apricot. I have one in red as well, nearly identical.

  6. Love love love! I loved the dresses of the 90's ultra feminine and lovely to wear. I picked up a lovely dress at Win in the summer very similar in style. Looks great and the shoes OMG!

  7. I looooove your 90s dress. It sort of has the style of a 70s dress too.
The purple boots are a clever (and perfect) choice. X

    1. Yes! The 90s were totally grooving on the country dresses of the 70s - it was the first wave of 70s flashbacks. I love the boots.

  9. The 90s was such a good era for jammy dresses. I used to have a couple of really simple ones made from jersey fabric, and now I have the patterns to make more I'm going to. So great for looking dressy without feeling trussed up.

  10. A joyful maxi dress if ever I saw one! What fun to sweep and swoosh about in this. Isn't it such a bonus to wear a jammy dress to work? Adorable x

  11. I was never fond of the 90's "jammy dresses" or floral prints, but this is a very pretty dress and you wear it well.

  12. Yes, yes to the floral dress ! This dress looks even better when worn ;) Wow - I always feel a little nostalgic when I see those made in USA labels, they only seem to be found in vintage clothing now.
