Fabulous Floral and Barbie Pink

Happy weekend, my friends! Yes, yes, we still have to get through Friday, but it's practically here. Fridays are pretty quiet for me.
As always, I save my own favourite outfit of the week for my WW group - they loved this dress. And so did I!

  • Dress - Eliza J, thrifted; purchased here for $24.95
  • Shoes - Arnold Churgin, thrifted; first worn here in July with my bubble jammy dress

Here we go, this shows it off better.
Right?? So pretty! And such a good cut on me.

And did you realize...? This is a jammy dress! I'm literally just wearing a dress and shoes. It does not get any easier.
I showed this dress off to many people today, and had compliments from people in the elevator and in the stores I popped into on my lunch break.

I'm including the close-up picture of the texture again so that you can see that this dress is LACE and lined (not the sleeves, that's my hand in there below).
And all that pattern? It's embroidered. This dress is HEAVY, but it was amazing to wear. Totally comfy. It gets an A (missing a "+" for lack of pockets).

I wore my cashmere pashmina around my neck and arms for sun coverage walking to both works.
I used to loathe pink, can you believe it? Now I fully embrace it.

  • Pashmina - Portolano, thrifted

The stuff:
One of my colleagues delightedly cried, "Barbie pink!" when she saw these shoes. They totally are, Sukanya! I love that. Henceforth, these shall be my Barbie Pink shoes. They're a comfy heel height and the leather is conforming to my feet nicely. Love!

Simple bling:
I let the dress do the talking. I just needed a minimal amount of jewelry today.

  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - handmade gift from Sherri
  • Bracelet - Coro, vintage 60s, Mom's

The bracelet made a break for it twice today. I need to tighten up that clasp.

I popped out to the bookstore across from my office building - they had a one-day Buy 1, Get One Free sale on (they're moving to a bigger space a block away).
I found 3 interesting fashion-themed books. I've linked below to Goodreads' reviews, not an affiliate or sponsored link, just a good site for book reviews (I've used it for Book Club).

  • The Way She Looks Tonight: Five Women of Style, by Marian Fowler, link here. Historical women, including Jackie O, Marlena Dietrich and the Duchess of Windsor (Wallis Simpson) and how they've influenced the last 150 years of fashion. History, good stuff.
  • Fashion Victim, by Michelle Lee, link here. The ethics and politics of fashion, from the impact of fast fashion and how we consume. Juicy, and I'm sure it will be thought-provoking.
  • Gods and Kings, by Dana Thomas, link here. This is subtitled "The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano", two designers lost too soon, and how the Fashion Machine has changed in the last 30 years.

I haven't read any of these reviews yet, but it looks like I lucked out - they all have 4+ stars/5 stars! I also bought "Neil Gaiman's Lady Justice, Vol. One", a graphic novel. I'm a Gaiman fan, and oh, it looks like this is the stinker of my purchases, with only 2.5/5 (link here) and not very good reviews. I'll lower my expectations accordingly. Ah well, I only spent $20 on all four books, so I'm good with that. I'm looking forward to reading all of these.

Now, I'm also looking forward to spending some time with both of my guys this weekend, including this little furry monster.
"Are you still here?"

Caught him snoozing on the bed this morning before I left for work. Of course I have to wake him up - it's only fair when he rouses me at 5am.

And with that, I am off until Sunday, when I shall return to regale you with tales of adventure! Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you so much for dropping by.

  2. Such a great dress on you Sheila and I love how it looks pulled together despite not needing anything other than a great pair of shoes!

Those books look interesting - especially the 'fashion victim' one. I was so surprised after reading 'deluxe: how luxury lost its lustre' a few years ago! Such an eye-opening book.

    1. Hence the "jammy dress" label, Mica! You have to love a dress that is so easy to style!

I have heard of that book, and I'm really looking forward to delving into these ones. Fashion just fascinates me.

    1. Thank you, Monica! I was very lucky on the fit, and thrilled to have these fun shoes that went with it so well.

I have not seen Good Omens (we don't have whatever service it's on, boo!), but I've heard good things! I'm a big Gaiman fan!

  4. I knew it wouldn't take long before we got to see that dress on you. Even it was fabulous on the hanger, it is even more so on you. It shows off your amazing figure to perfection. And adding the Barbie pink shoes and that Pashmina makes it even more perfect. Good deal on those books! Habe a fabulous weekend, my dear! xxx

  5. i have been following you for over a year now! just gotta say, you are adorable!...i've been thrifting since I 16 and now i am 48 and still doing it! it's always so much fun!....quick question for you--I will be starting my own DIY upcycling, clothing recreate blog series as an addendum to my little local costume business...i have such a horrible time seeing myself in pictures...i see you pose yourself in the same way each time you post--and i think that's great, just because i can see how hard it would be to find a fabulous location each time I'll be posting about a new outfit--sets the expectations of the reader and also is less pressure and stress on you....i will be starting really rudimentary and hoping that as time goes on (as with my costume business and gardening obsession), that i will find better ways to photograph, or present my blog...so is that how it was for you? how do you take your pictures?...can i email you a picture of my upcycled outfit and see what you think? thanks eva....all advice warmly received : )

    1. Hello, Eva! Thank you so much for following me (heh, not many people call me adorable!). I love thrifting too, as you've no doubt figured out. You are welcome to drop me an email (it's in my profile).

For photos, I've just practiced...a lot. I use the timer function on my little point-and-shoot camera (on Auto, no special settings). I have a task light on the desk (where the camera sits) that I point at the ceiling of the room to bounce extra light on me. I like to do the same poses over and over because then it focuses on the clothes more than me. I have found that taking thousands of pictures of myself over the years has really helped me NOT feel self-conscious about myself and my looks (which I have never liked previously). I really have just learned along the way what works and what doesn't. :) Not sure if that helps you, my dear, but that's all I got.

  6. I adore this outfit, the shoes bring out the color in this spectacular dress. I have to say that i had no idea it was heavy and that the close up of the sleeve allows me to admire it even more.

    1. Thank you, Lorena! Yeah, I realized when I saw the pictures that it could easily be a cheap printed dress - you can't see the lace or embroidery in most of them. It's really a spectacular dress.

  8. That is such a lovely dress, and of course you have the perfect pair of shoes to wear with it. It may feel like a "jammy" dress, but it certainly doesn't look like one.

    1. Thanks, Shelley! That's the best thing about jammy dresses: they don't LOOK like jammies!

  9. That is one fabulous dress, and I love the idea of a wrap for sun protection. Great shoes too, you work the pink beautifully. Haha about Vizzini on the bed - our cats always look at us like "oh you want to sleep here too?!" xo

  10. Pink looks great on you, and I love that outfit. The fabric on the dress is splendid.

Nice book haul, too; Gods And Kings looks fascinating. I so used to covet John Galliano's designs in the 90s... not that I'd ever have afforded them!

    1. Thank you - and yet, I never wore it, for decades!

You'd be surprised what you can find - I've seen Galiano in the thrift stores, older 90s stuff too!
