Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Optics; Swooshy and Lace; Peachy Maxi; Bright Brollys

Hello, my friends! Are you ready for a bunch of outfits? I had a pretty quiet weekend, although I managed to squeeze in a couple of mini-shops.

Here's Friday's outfit.
The starting point was this new to me Jean Paul Gaultier optic cardigan.

This is my outfit for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style. Go!

  • Cardigan - Jean Paul Gaultier Soleil, consignment; purchased here for $24.00
  • Top - Clover Canyon, thrifted; last worn here almost exactly a year ago in August 2018 with Versace mom-jeans
  • Cords - Banana Republic, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) in June for a movie
  • Shoes - Wonders, thrifted; last worn here in July with my black jammy suit

Putting a solid colour with the cardigan was a gimme - I have a collection of solid-coloured bottoms for mixing with my prints, so that's easy. These acid yellow cords did the trick.
Instead of the expected white or black top, I then mixed another optical pattern into the outfit.

I must completely mess with the vision of everyone who sees me!
The cardigan had many admirers - it was light as a feather to wear. It's two layers of mesh (you can see how much sheerer it is on the arms where there only one layer); the inside layer is black.

I love this top but I always forget I have it. My simple tops like this live in a drawer, so I have to consciously remember to dig through it once in a while.
Can you tell what the pattern is?

It's been distorted digitally.
 It's accordions!

And we are all in accord. With the accordions. And my cords.
 Ha! It's just too much!

The stuff:
Super-comfy shoes for my busy day in the office.

Blue bling:
I painted my big toenails a turquoise blue to match!

  • Fur pin - Catawumpus
  • Optic ring - thrifted for $3.95 (first wearing)
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - Mango's

L and I chilled out on Friday night, unwinding from our hectic week, and were up early to head to the field for our Saturday Ultimate Frisbee game.
As always, I change into my sport gear at the field, then back into my "real" clothes for brunch afterwards.

  • Lace jacket - faux Gucci (Gookey!), thrifted; last worn here in June with floral and pearls
  • Blouse - Dex, thrifted; first seen here in September 2018 with this same jacket
  • Skirt - LA Hearts, thrifted; last worn here in May with the jelly-deer sweater
  • Shoes - Softmocs, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) with a ginormous skirt for Winesday

It was a cloudy but hot and muggy day - we had a good game, although my team lost.
Still fond of this fun lace bomber.

And I love the swoosh in this maxi skirt.
I don't have a lot of maxi dresses, but I do have many maxi skirts.

This blouse was also in the drawer with the accordion top.
I needed a red top and there it was. Of course, I spilled down the front of it at lunch. Ya can't take me anywhere!

The stuff:
I didn't feel like wearing a lot of stuff.

  • Gold hoops - 5th anniversary gift from L

L had to dash down to Ditch Records to pick up a CD, so I had a quick browse in the Velvet Crease while I waited for him. I had waffled over this funky jacket the last time I was in, but it was too pricey for me at $50.00.
I love the galactic print - so fun - and the double white stripes down the arms. The neck and cuffs are stretchy, and there are slash pockets on the front.

The back is just a s good.
 More stripes!

The lower sides of the jacket can be snapped up - there are 3 snaps per side.
One of them is broken, but I don't care.

The snaps say "Subcrude" which seems to be a line of weird baggy skateboard pants.
The tags inside say Prosperity.
I couldn't find out anything about this online, but it was marked down to half price at $25.00 so I was happy!

After a nice long nap for our sore and tired selves, L and I went to the local pub for dinner.
Nothing too fancy, just a simple top and skirt.

  • Linen top - Gap, thrifted; last worn here in July on my trip to Hamilton
  • Skirt - BCBG Max Azria, consignment; first worn here in May with blossom pink
  • Shoes - Born, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) last weekend

This peachy-coloured linen top is lovely to wear - it really hasn't been warm enough this summer to wear it much.
I quite like this pleated maxi skirt.

It's huge!
I loved how it billowed in the breeze on our walk to and from the pub.

My little green neon purse went perfectly.
And what's that hiding by my leg?
My paper parasol! I get tired of wearing sunblock - when it's not too windy and I don't need both hands free, this is a nice alternative.

The stuff:
I need easy shoes after running around in cleats for two hours.

  • Purse - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Bracelet - thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted

On Sunday (today), I did my usual weekly grocery shop and then had a quick browse at the WIN Boutique, and popped in at two garage sales.
It's sunny and windy, but not too hot, so this light sweater was fine.

  • Sweater - Bleu & Gray, thrifted; first seen here in July with ruffles and pearls
  • Skirt - SP; last worn here in April with copper
  • Shoes - Karl Lagerfeld; last seen here (2nd outfit) to the Ulti field in June

Another wearing of this fun print - I do love the brollys.
I saw at least two people wearing pajama pants in the grocery store.

I would always rather dress like this than be extra-casual.
Yeah, I'll stick with my sweater and skirt!

First time out with my new-to-me leather copper bag.
It was excellent - I mostly carried it like this, but when I was shopping, I hooked it at my elbow.

The stuff:
I love all these golden yellows together! The shoes are comfy enough, but they are wearing out quickly. I'll maybe get one more summer out of them.

Golden bling:
First wearing of the parrot brooch ($5.00) and the wooden ring ($3.95).

  • Brooch - thrifted
  • Ring - thrifted
  • Ear-balls - Dior, consignment
  • Bag - Arcadia, consignment

Not much luck this time around with my shopping. All I found was a new-in-the-box pair of lace hosiery by DIM at the WIN Boutique.
Regular $12.00, and they were marked at $1.95.

It's a really nice lace.
These will be handy once we get back into hosiery weather. I do like a nice lacy pair of tights.

You'll have noticed a distinct lack of cat pictures in this post.
"I've appreciated that the paparazzi have been absent this weekend."

We've been giving Vizzini lots of attention, playing with him and brushing him, but letting him chill out too.
"Can I get back to my nap now, Woman?"

Yes, naps for all!

  1. What a cute umbrella skirt. Looks especially good with those shoes.

I don't know why anyone would wear pajamas outside their home but I've seen it, too.

I've never told anyone but one of my favorite things to shop for, in both retail and thrift stores, is hosiery. The package illustrations/photos are so delightful and feminine. I'd buy 'em even if I couldn't wear the contents.

    1. Thanks, Ally! I know, I just shake my head - why would you go out in public??

I love hosiery shopping too - you find some amazing things when you start poking around in thrift stores!

  2. I love all of the skirts in this post Sheila! Especially the maxi skirts! My new go-to opshop had "fill a bag of clothes for $5" sale on and I was kid-free for the day so I had an awesome time browsing and filled up a bag for me and a bag for the boys. I ended up with 4 maxi skirts, oops! haha! I just couldn't put them back after trying them on I took 5 into the change room and did leave one behind... I was thrilled to have good thrifting luck!

    1. I thought of you when I noticed how many maxi skirts I was wearing (and I'm wearing another one today!). Oh, how lovely that you got some shopping time to yourself, Mica! sounds like you had fun!

  3. I love your skirts - I don't have many maxi skirts myself but you look great.

I also love trousers - such a bright and cheerful colour!

    1. Thank you, Rebecca! I love a nice long skirt. Hooray for bright trousers!

  4. Your maxis are fabulous and the accordion print top is epic, what a design!! Talking of prints, how cool is that brolly print? Much better wearing one than carrying one.
How I hate the rise in slobbish non-dressing. It's not uncommon to see women walking down to the corner shop in toweling dressing gowns and slippers here, no self respect.
Jon loves Dim trunks - bet the tights are of equally brilliant quality.
Vizzini looks very chilled out. Our lads are off their heads on cat mint today! xxx

    1. Isn't it cool, Vix? That company (Clover Canyon) is known for their digital prints. Absolutely better to wear a brolly than carry one!

It appalls me, frankly. Don't wear that crap in public!

Dim tights are amazing! I usually can't afford them.

Ha! I can just picture the lads cavorting about!

  5. Although I love both maxi skirt creations, it is Friday's outfit that really makes my heart sing. You've truly styled that Jean Paul Gaultier optic cardigan to perfection for its maiden outing. I love the zingy acid yellow cords, and there are no words to describe the awesomeness of the accordion print top. The touches of blue and turquoise are genius, including painting your big toenails in turquoise! I love that you're wearing your "normal clothes" to Ulti and changed into your sportswear there. Apart from slobbish dressing, one of my pet hates is wearing track suits or bottoms as "normal clothes". And where is people's self respect if they go shopping in their jammy bottoms? I shudder at the thought! But back to you: how lovely to see the brolly skirt again and that eye-catching copper bag looks like it was made for it. I'm also loving your paper parasol. I've always had a thing for them, but never owned one, apart from one of those miniature ones which came with ice creams ;-) Yay to naps for all! xxx

    1. I loved the Friday look too, Ann! I adore the JPG cardi - such a great print, and I was so pleased at how well the two prints went together. I quite liked all the turquoise bits (including my toes!).

I refuse to be out in public in workout clothing if I'm not actually working out. I loathe "athleisure". Ugh.

Paper parasols are easily found here in the local Chinatown. This one was only $10 several years ago.

I could use a nap now!

  6. Where to begin! I love the green lace bomber. I hope you want to join us next month with that one! The wooden ring is fantastic, I have wooden bracelets and I love them. I haven't seen a wooden ring before I think. And I like the last outfit a lot! And accordeons? No, didn't notice that!

    1. I have a lot of lace, Nancy, and I see that you're doing that for your next link-up. I'll see how motivated I'm feeling by the time you post that.

I have had a couple of wooden rings over the years. I love the feel of them.

      Fooled you! Accordions for all!

  7. Lots of fab outfits!!, I love the 'doubled optic prints' outfit with the neon color pants, totally cool and groovy! and also love the lace bomber with the fab maxi skirt, so swooshy and colorful. You totally rock your maxi skirts, the floral one looks fab with the peach color top, and such a great idea to have a parasol (I usually wear a massive hat!)
Love your umbrellas skirt and your matchy bag (lovely color and shine!), so lovely outfit!, the accessorizing is so fabulous!
    besos
    And the umbrellas print is

    1. Thank you so much, Monica! I had a good outfit weekend! The parasol is fun to carry, but it does get in the way if one is shopping.

  8. Aaah pattern blending! I cannot do that to save my life. You put together such great outfits.

Pyjamas... no. Not for outdoors, unless they're deco-style beach or hostess pyjamas. I'm all in favour of people dressing how they like, but nightwear out of the house just makes me think people haven't bothered to shower that day!

    1. You can do it, Mim! Just try it!

I know, what is going on with people?? I so agree about the deco beach pajamas (I've just been reading about Coco Chanel pioneering them in the 20s!). I think these people had not showered! Yikes!

  9. The top and cardigan look outstanding together, such a fab eye catcher Sheila!
I want to wear everything you are wearing, of course the umbrella print skirt and I now feel the need for lace tights.

    1. Thanks, Lorena! I'm looking forward to wearing that cardi again.

Will lace tights be a thing again? They don't ever go out of style for me!

  10. As much as I love jersey and all stretch fabrics, especially when I'm feeling poorly, I still believe that
it's important to actually get dressed. Wearing your pjs out of the house is a step too far. The same for your slippers and dressing gown. I'm all for being comfy, but surely you can be elegant and feminine as well? You certainly set a fantastic example, Sheila. Can't wait to see the first outing of those lace tights!

    1. There are so many options other than PJs or slippers (!) in public. It's kind of sad, really.

      Thank you so much!

  11. Unfortunately, I see a lot of women in my neighbourhood wearing pajama pants as regular day wear. I never hope I get to that point where I just give up caring about what I wear. That pink top and green and pink print skirt are so pretty. I would have wrestled you for the galaxy print jacket ;)

    1. Oh, that's just sad, isn't it? I never want to be that person. The galaxy print is so cool!

  12. The double optic with yellow outfit is absolutely stellar. Love the other outfits too, actually. Love your new jacket, too.
