Etro Treasure and Secret Trek

I'm not feeling terribly inspired in my wardrobe this week - I am still sick, but getting better. My energy is just sapped.
Realizing that a) my fly is undone and b) I don't have time to take another picture

Going back to a couple of tried and true pieces (trousers/shoes) and getting my seasonal wear out of this lovely blazer.

  • Blazer - Etro Milano, consignment; last seen here in June 2018 (2nd outfit) with a very short skirt
  • Blouse - H&M, thrifted; first worn here in November 2018 with vintage rainbow plaid
  • Trousers - Talbots, thrifted; last seen here in January with green velvet
  • Shoes - Aldo, thrifted; last worn here in December 2018 with a Christmas tree skirt
  • Coat (below) - Apparence, vintage, thrifted; last seen here in January

The temps have dropped to 1-2 degrees here - the blossoms on the trees are freezing! This is unusually cold for delicate Victoria denizens like me. I just want to be bundled up head to toe!
I have a few very treasured designer pieces (like yesterday's Dries Van Noten), and this blazer is another one. It's by Etro Milano (here's their spring 2019 runway collection, courtesy of Vogue, and linking 'cause I love), a brand that has been around for 50 years.

I like the yellow suit on slide 28 - the blazer is cut very similarly to this one I'm wearing, although mine is likely from the 90s. There's a scrumptious blazer in slide 59 as well, with similar contrasting lapels. Browsing through that collection inspires me to try mixing a flowy floral dress or skirt with this blazer next time!
I only knew of the brand because of a vintage fashion book I was given by a friend about 7 years ago. I learned about Etro, Halston, Courreges and other names of their eras that sounded vaguely familiar - and I started seeing them in second-hand stores! This was one of my first real designer pieces, purchased in 2013 (here), and it's worth scrolling down to see the details, including the lovely lining (and a funny picture of Vizzini right after that).

I've done this trouser/shoe combo before, and it got a strong response from my colleagues. Everyone loves red shoes.
I love the blouse for its colour only - it's cheap H&M, but it picks up the yellow in the blazer lapels. The stair picture is the most accurate - I called this turmeric last time I wore it.

Outerwear - Unsafe Polar Bear time!
 So snuggly!

  • Scarf - thrifted; purchased here for $1.00 - first wearing
  • Gloves - thrifted in Powell River

The stuff:
Comfy shoes. It would be nice if they were actually leather, but I'm good with them otherwise. Shiny heel!

Secret bling:
It's been a while since I wore my Star Trek insignia badge to work. Two of my coworkers noticed and were pretty excited about it.

  • Star Trek communicator badge - MoPOP Museum gift shop, Seattle
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Ring - c. 1996

  1. I am sorry to hear that you are still feeling unwell. I know what you mean about your energy being sapped. It took me ages to fully recover from a cold recently.

Your coat looks really cosy for the cold weather - it is milder in the UK at the moment 10C and I do like your trousers and shoes.

    1. Thanks, Rebecca - I'm so tired all the time!

The Unsafe Polar Bear is the best coat - so nice and warm. I would like your temps back!

  2. Like your pants. They remind me: I just watched an interesting new TV show ("Russian Doll") and, in addition to the drama and comedy, the fashion appeals. One character wears beautiful stirrup pants which I haven't seen since the Eighties. I went out searching for some and couldn't find any. Do they sell stirrup pants these days? Anywhere?

    1. Oh god, no! NO stirrup pants! They are horrible to wear, because the stirrups pull them down, even with short legs like mine. I never see them in the thrift stores and I hope they never come back!

I've heard of Russian Doll, will check it out.

  3. We've had another dull grey day here and although the temperature was well above freezing point, it felt quite chilly. Looking at your fabulous outfit really cheered me up, though. Love the colour of that H&M blouse, what a shame about the poor quality. The blazer is such a gorgeous piece, and how lucky you were to find Etro in a consignment store. You really have a knack of find designer pieces! I clicked to your 2013 post for the details, and was wondering if you still have that marvellous Tiki skirt? I don't think I ever saw it. xxx

    1. Aw, thank you, Ann! I'm glad to make you feel cheery. :)

My knack is just looking for the best quality I can find, and then I do the digging for the brand/label.

I do not have the Tiki skirt - it was really way too big on me, and I'm so lazy about tailoring. I gave it away shortly after that.

  6. The shoes, the shoes, oh how I adore those shoes! Not just for being red, but because of their elegance, my dear. Fab trews too. Sorry you've been sick. Am just working backwards and finding you in recovery phase. Well done x
