Double Drape Monday

I did not want to go to work today - I need another weekend to recover from that one! Instead, I dragged myself in and did my job. I guess I should earn my pay.
I randomly pulled this top out the other day and was poking around, seeing what to wear with it, when I remembered the skirt - double draping! It's a match made in heaven.

  • Cardigan - Theory, thrifted; last worn here in October 2018 with jeans
  • Top - Helmut Lang, thrifted; last seen here in April 2018 in a 70s apartment outfit
  • Skirt - Dries Van Noten, thrifted; last worn here in November 2018 with swirls of colour
  • Shoes - Elegant Conversations Kendra, Fluevog; last seen here in September 2018 with metal and pearls
  • Coat (below) - Tahari, thrifted; last worn here in February 2018

It's far too chilly out to wear just the top, so I wore this lovely wool cardigan. I was still cold - we actually had some snow last night, and it was still snowing a bit this morning. It didn't last, though - the sidewalks are all clear.
I love this top, but both the colour and the style are a challenge, as neither are the most flattering on me. But you don't have to always have everything fit or be the same way, right? And even a soft taupe is okay once a while.

The skirt is one of my treasured pieces (and not just because I call it my Pirate skirt, yarrr!). It's just a pleasure to wear. I feel very lucky to have found Dries Van Noten in a thrift store!
Draping, lines, soft folds, all mimicking bedding...which is where my mind was.

I want to go back to bed and hide under my down comforter.
 Yup, that sounds just right.

Outerwear - this is the first wearing of this down-filled puffer coat this season! I was beginning to wonder if I'd even need it!
I'm all snuggly and bundled up with my fur scarf and toque too. My legs were cold, though.

  • Toque/scarf - Danier Leather
  • Gloves - Cejon, thrifted

The stuff:
I like the subtle pencil-grey floral on the cream background of these shoes. They just felt right for the outfit.

Bronze bling:
A lot of mixed metals. That used to matter to me, but now...? *shrug* Do not care.

  • Lace cuff - locally made, Nashville, TN
  • Necklace - All Saints, gift from Dominique
  • Cuff - faux Gucci, c. 1986, gift from Mom & Dad from Italy
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
  • Spinner ring - Twang & Pearl
  • Bronze ring - P. Sarpaneva, c. 1970, vintage expo

  1. I sympathize. Many days I also don't want to go to work and drag myself in. We deserve medals. Or at least more money. :)

  2. Lately, I often feel like I need another weekend to recover from the one I've just had. Need some sunshine as my energy levels are low. Anyway, back to your outfit. I can see that this top is a challenge, but you found the perfect solution in double draping! Yes, you were very, very lucky to find Dries Van Noten in a thrift store. His flagship store in Antwerp isn't far from my office. The clothes displayed in the shop's windows aren't even priced, if you know what I mean! Love the shoes, they are really special. And I seem to care less and less about mixed metals too. Hope your week goes well! xxx

    1. This was an unusually busy one for us, Ann, and really took a lot out of me (especially as I'm still sick). I've got a few pieces of Dries - no one here knows the name, so I've gotten pieces for a song! Here's to mixed metals!

  5. I love the mix of the draping together and while you said it was a little cold it looks like such a cosy and comfortable outfit! :) That puffer coat looks like a great topper, glad you could give it a wear :)

    1. It was a really cold day yesterday - most days it would have been fine. I've worn the puffer a few times to take out the recycling, lol. Thanks, Mica!

  7. I've been wearing a down-filled coat for almost all of the last four weeks! I still marvel at some of the high end designer pieces (like this skirt) that you find secondhand. I did score a lovely Oscar De La Renta dress (more like a long tunic with high side slits) last weekend for $25.

    1. We've been so lucky with the weather so far this year! I find amazing stuff - it's Victoria. There is a big population of the very rich here, and those clothes have to end up somewhere! Good score on the de la Renta!

  9. Rest up, darl, you've had a busy weekend. I love how you compared the lines in your clothes to bedding. A day in bed is exactly what you need. X

  10. oh yes, I totally understand that feeling!, but you did it well looking fabulous and going through the day with attitude!. Love your double drapey, amazing shape!, totally agree on wearing something you like even if it's not conventionally 'flattering'. Anyway, you look gorgeous in this subtle color combo and your shoes are absolutely stunning!

    1. Aw, thank you, Monica! It's been challenging for me to break out of my own clothing stereotypes and play with different proportions and shapes.

  11. I do feel the proportions are a little off - maybe if the draped top would have been tucked? Regardless, you looked good and most important you made it to work. I certainly wanted to sleep in today.

    1. Nah, it doesn't look right tucked - all that draping is attached and pulls. Thank you, hon!
