Return of the Chrysanthemum Skirt

I've been blogging for over 10 years, and not too many things in my wardrobe have lasted more than 4 or 5 years.
At 8 years, this skirt is one of the older pieces I own.

  • Shirt - Cleo, thrifted; purchased here on the weekend for $4.00
  • Skirt - Vivienne Tam, consignment; last seen here in July 2017 with denim (I did get rid of the jacket - I spotted it in one of the downtown thrift stores on the weekend!)
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last worn (one shoe) here for Pride Week last week

You can always track back nearly everything I wear through the "here" links, even to when I first got an item (I'm always glad that I thought of that very early in my blogging), to see how I've worn it before - or to see how my hair has changed!

I first wore it in April 2010 here, on the day we had to put our dear Othello kitty down (he had cancer). Not a great first wear association, but it's a wonderful skirt, and it makes the cut every time I cull my wardrobe.

Chrysanthemums are wonderful - so pretty.

First wearing of the black top, and I liked it very much. A good basic.
Warm walking in the sun, though. Hot!

Hatted.
I get more stares when I wear a hat. It's like people have never seen one before.

  • Hat - thrifted

The stuff:
As I promised myself when I wore one of these shoes last week, I'm wearing both of them this week! I adore pink and yellow together. It's almost as fun as orange and pink.

Matchy bling:
Instead of doing my usual uber-matchy of wearing my yellow earrings and cuff, I went with my vintage Sherman crystal set to fill in the neckline of the shirt. Sparkly!

  • Belt - Liz Claiborne, vintage, thrifted
  • Crystal necklace and earrings - Sherman, vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Amethyst/gold ring - Frances Jewellers, c. 1965, Dad's

Well, my friends, as of tomorrow, I'm off for an extra-long weekend - woo hoo! I won't be posting tomorrow night (I have WW, followed by Book Club, which means a late night), and then I'll be offline for a few days. See you on Monday for the Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up! It'll be a doozy!

  1. Oh what a beautiful skirt! Very nice length.
And what you wrote about hats, that is so true. I don't understand why people don't wear hats more often: it's so easy pick for bad hair day and makes even plain outfit looking sharp. Most important (for me) is that hats covers face and neck from sun; no tanning is needed for my pale skin.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Thank you, Mujeril! Hats hide hair really well, they protect your face, neck and shoulders (if wide enough), and they look great! Happy weekend to you!

  2. You look fabulous in this outfit, Sheila! I absolutely adore this skirt! It's so beautiful and reminds me of Japan, as the Imperial Seal of Japan is a chrysanthemum! I love the yellow belt and matching shoes too. Hope you have a great weekend! XXX

    1. Thank you so much, Sasha! Yes, I bet Ms. Tam is Japanese - she seems to use these flowers in a few of her designs. Happy weekend to you!

  3. It's a fabulous skirt and looks gorgeous on you. Love the yellow shoes and pink bling.

I am very envious of the lovely black shirt; I've been looking for one for ages with no success. I have a good black linen shirt but it is too small too fasten the buttons across my chest so need another one..hopefully I'll find one soon.

    Enjoy your weekend break!

    1. Thank you, Vronni! You see why it's one of my favourite pieces! Finding good shirts is hard! This is one of the few black ones I've ever seen, and I was lucky that it fit so well.

Thank you! Happy weekend to you!

  5. That is a beautiful skirt, I can see why it's been such a keeper in your wardrobe! I was wearing pink and yellow just the other day, it is a fun combination, although admittedly not one I wear much. I have a pink scarf with yellow print that inspired me :)

Enjoy your blog break and long weekend!

  7. What a gorgeous skirt, but why did you get rid of the jacket? It must have made an amazing suit. Anyway, I love how you combined it with the black shirt and yellow accessories, and the addition of the vintage crystal set is just superb! Have a fantastic weekend, Sheila! xxx

    1. The jacket only had one hook/eye, gaped when I moved, and didn't have pockets. It also was denim, so a little too casual for the office, but not casual enough for weekend. It was never part of a suit (I don't split suits up).

Thank you, Ann! Happy weekend to you!

  11. That's s a very pretty skirt. Like you, I associate clothing with specific moments and sometimes they are not very good ones, so it gets a bit sour and I don´t want to wear those items again.
I would think your clothes lasted longer in your closet, specially considering they're top quality.

    1. Yeah, it can be challenging for that, but I try not to get too deep into that association - it's not the skirt's fault!

Sometimes they last longer, but it's not always about the quality (although it often is).
