Flapper Floof and Fringe

I always feel like a flapper in this skirt, so why not go full-on...with pastels!
Despite how it looks, this outfit was completely comfortable and easy to wear. No fuss.

  • Sweater - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here earlier this month with Kermit shoes
  • Skirt - Sandra Angelozzi, thrifted; last seen here in August 2017 with a long tunic and T-straps
  • Shoes - Big Presence Earhart, Fluevog; last worn here in April with a bad blouse
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here on Monday

This thin cashmere sweater is soft and drapey, like an oversized t-shirt. I wear a vintage camisole under it because it's somewhat sheer.
The skirt is so ruffly and floofy! It makes me happy. I gave it a good steam last night - silk organza wrinkles like mad. I tried not to sit at all until after I took my pictures!

Surprise! There's a scarf back there!
I had the whole outfit put together, and then when I was pulling out accessories, I realized that this not-yet-worn silk scarf would work perfectly with the colours in the outfit.

Outerwear - it's sunny, breezy and a bit brisk in the mornings/evenings.
But I'm warm by the time I've walked home.

The stuff:
These shoes make me happy. Love them. Lilac and mango!

Mostly old bling:
The newest thing here is the crystal ring from Florence - some of this stuff goes back many, many years.

  • Gold chain - Grandma J's, likely from the 80s when you could buy gold chain by the inch at booths in the mall!
  • Amethyst bracelet - vintage 1930s? Gram S. (Mom, do you remember this piece?); Edit: Mom says it might have been her grandmother's (Grandma B), and possibly Scottish.
  • Bead/chain necklace - 2028, Eatons, c. 1997
  • Earrings - vintage booth
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy
  • Amber ring - c. 1996

This is a very old piece. It is from my Gram S. (my mom's mom) - I am pretty sure she gave this to me in the mid-80s, when I briefly lived with her and my Grandad S. while he recovered from heart surgery. This (here) is a picture of my Gram and Grandad on my wedding day, and here's me with Grandad when I was a wee one (Mom tells me this is around my first birthday).
This looks like the post-flapper era to me. It's not expensively made - the pieces are all stamped (not cast/carved), and then soldered together.
The amethyst is big and isn't perfectly square cut. I forgot I had it, and wanted a bracelet this morning, and remembered this (and even where I had stored it, go, me!). I'm glad I pulled it out.

Here's some detail of my scarf, it being the first wear.
I bought it at My Sister's Closet in December 2017 (here) just after Christmas - it was half price, but I neglected to say how much it was. However, I'm cheap, so it wouldn't have been over $12.00.

I love that it has a row of bugle beads every third fringe.
This is kept well away from Vizzini! Chomp, he would eat it.

  2. Sheila, thank you so much for sharing your Gram's jewelry with us. I especially enjoyed seeing the photographs of you with your grandparents. I have several pieces of jewelry from my grandmothers and I, too, cherish the memories that the jewelry triggers. For ne, that's the allure of having and wearing heirloom pieces: the story behind them.

    1. Thank you, Mel-Bee! I like to try to include a bit of my own personal history with my pieces, and I love knowing that I'm another generation getting to enjoy them.

  3. That is a beautiful scarf and it looks great worn like that! Your skirt is my favourite part of your outfit though, so fun! I wish I was as organised as you and could remember where all my accessories were, that is a lovely bracelet to have - and even better to remember where it was!

  5. That is such a fun outfit, Sheila! I love how you teamed the ruffly skirt with the pastel sweater, long chain necklace and fringy scarf. Your Gram S.'s bracelet is such a fabulous piece. I love wearing a family heirloom! And you were such a cute wee one! xxx

  6. Adore the colors and that grand skirt. I would have also worn the scarf on top... as a way of saying: you have no idea how cool it is what i am wearing underneath.

  8. It's so nice to have pieces of your Grandmother's jewellery. I didn't know my maternal grandmother, and my Dad's mother wasn't much of a jewellery wearer.

Love the flapper vibe of that ruffled skirt - you are channeling your inner "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (do you remember that movie starring Julie Andrews?)
