Classic Equestrian and Pearls

I have a nice short week before another long weekend (it's like I planned it), and it's also the last week before my Ginormous Closet Swap-Over, where I pack away about 60% of my wardrobe for a six-month period, and bring back my stored spring-summer clothes, accessories, jewelry and shoes.
This week, I'm trying to sneak in last wears of some of my favourite pieces that will be stored away, like this thick wool skirt and these funky platform sandals.

  • Blouse - Cache (cash-AY!), thrifted; purchased here for $10.00
  • Skirt - J. Crew, thrifted; last seen here in January for a classy work day
  • Shoes - Tod's, thrifted; last worn here in February with wallpaper pants
  • Coat (below) - Zara, pass-along from Dominique; last seen here earlier this month

I'm also still working through the last month's glut of shopping purchases - I like to try to wear new-to-me things as soon as possible. I mean, what if this blouse had sucked? Better to know right away.
Fortunately, it did not suck - it rocked. It was wonderfully breathable but warm (thank you, silk), and I adore the equestrian print and the soft pink.

This gorgeous skirt is a good example of not going with just a plain ol' pencil skirt.
It's a very thick wool, fully-lined, and I love the pencil detail on it. It's special. However, it's too warm for spring - you know I have a version of this for hotter weather!

Outerwear - I'm having a fedora thing right now, wearing them a lot.
This time, it's flipped way low in front to accommodate my hair clip in back.

  • Hat - Edward Mann, thrifted, vintage
  • Leather gloves - Club Monaco, consignment

I also like to avoid looking at people in the mornings.
"This looks tasty..."
I have to mentally prepare myself to deal with people all day. Stay out of my way until I'm ready for you!

The stuff:
Yes, I'm packing away these sandals for summer. I prefer the look of them with tights (I wore nylons today), and the colour says more "autumn" to me. I have lots of summery shoes!

Pearl bling:
I had several comments at work on how classy I looked today. There's something about a whack of pearls! I wore both necklaces together - how radical!

  • Double-strand necklace - vintage 60s, Grandma J's
  • Pearl collar - vintage fair
  • Cuff - faux Gucci, gift from Mom & Dad
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Ring - Sarah Coventry, antique shop

  1. This is an awesome outfit, glad you loved the shirt when you wore it. I like the pearls too, I always feel more pulled together when I add a pearl necklace or two to my outfits, haha!

  2. Gorgeous skirt Sheila and I think you look like a vintage mannequin from a 60s magazine with that spectacular coat...

  3. Hurray for long weekends. I've got one too! That blouse is fantastic on you, such a great find, and it works really well with the skirt. Maybe I should start wearing fedoras too, as I'm not always ready to face people first thing. Unless they'd be snazzy dressers like you, but they're never on my bus ... xxx

  6. Few have the charisma to pull off a fedora... but you do. Love the pencil skirt.

  7. Yes on two counts - that shirt does rock, and yes I too don't want to engage with people until I'm ready!

  8. I really like the photo of you wearing the coat - the wider shape, and colour, of the coat contrasts nicely with the narrow cream skirt and the cream fedora. Excellent styling Sheila!
