Classic Company Combo

Tonight was my company's quarterly meeting, full of VPs from all over western Canada. Many presentations and much mingling (but not much food). I always go classy (as opposed to "klassy") for these events.
And since my dear three VPs would all be there, I wanted to wear "their" gift to me, these lovely shoes.

  • Top - Gorgeous, thrifted; last seen here in December 2016 with green tweed
  • Skirt - J. Crew, thrifted; last worn here in October with soft pink
  • Shoes - Big Presence Earhart, Fluevog; purchased here with gift cards for $169.99
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather, consignment; last worn here in April 2016 (shocking!)

I got a lot of compliments on my outfit all day. Yup, it's a classic.
You've got your orange brocade vintage top, complete with green rabbit fur trim around the neck.

And then you have a thick wool pencil skirt with a little zipper detailing (I am all about details).
I splattered coffee down the front of it this afternoon, but it came out immediately with a squirt of Folex. Phew!

It's been pretty mild out in Victoria the last few days. I didn't really need the furry toque. Our VPs from Alberta and Saskatchewan were very envious of our nice weather!
I'm shocked, but also not shocked, that I haven't worn this jacket in nearly 2 years. It doesn't have pockets! Why would you not put pockets on what is clearly an outerwear jacket? However, I do need to make more of an effort to wear this more - I keep it because when am I ever going to find an orange leather jacket this nice? If I do find one - and it has pockets - I'll buy it and get rid of this one. So it stays.

  • Toque/gloves - Danier Leather
  • Scarf - vintage, thrifted

The stuff:
These shoes were stellar! No rubbing, no soreness (although after standing for hours at the quarterly meeting, I was happy to put my Docs on for walking home). I have very narrow feet, and would not recommend these for wider feet - that strap across the top of the foot is snug on me and would be torture on a wider foot.

Classy bling:
I'm a fan of vintage mink brooches.

  • Brooch - thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Pearl ring - Pearl Factory, Waikiki, 1985

My mom bought me that pearl ring in Waikiki, Hawaii in the spring of 1985, just before I graduated. I rarely wear it, but then I looked at it and thought, "Why not?"

  2. Love how this outfit lets the shoes shine, and it's nice of you to have worn them to show off what you got with the gift. Hubby always thinks it's strange when we go to see someone and I'll pick out the clothes for the boys based on who they are going to visit. it's nice to see someone enjoying the gifts you gave them though I think! :) I do the same with my outfits too, I'll wear something someone gave me if I'm going to see them.

    1. Thanks, Mica! I wanted to do exactly that: let them shine. I always try to wear things that people gave me when I see them! It's not strange at all!

  4. I hope you tap-danced in front of the PowerPoint presentations to liven things up a bit. You are dressed as a star, of course. Great outfit for mingling with the higher-ups. Mild weather, hurray! Yes, it's always a surprise when I step outside, a good one. Coat with no pockets? There oughtta be a law!!!

    1. Ha, I did not do that, but I did waggle my feet at everyone so they could coo over my shoes. It's so nice out right now - I feel like spring is just around the corner. I know, right? No pockets is an outrage!

  5. What a fabulous blouse, and the shoes are very unusual in every way. I love the colour combination especially. And now I seriously need a vintage mink brooch! The jacket's lovely too, but no pockets? Seriously! That would drive me crazy. What a relief those coffee stains came out of the skirt ... I would have cried my eyes out! xxx

    1. Thank you! I love these slightly-off pieces and how they are classics, only just not..quite...what everyone else might wear. If I find another mink brooch (that I can part with), I'll send it to you. I know, seriously, pockets in everything! I try not to get too upset when stuff marks up my clothes, but I love this skirt and want it stay nice for as long as I can.

  8. They probably didn't put pockets in that orange jacket because it would ruin the line. It's such a streamlined shape. I once got a whole lecture about why women's pants and skirts don't have pockets from a tailor who lived in my neighbourhood. A friend wanted him to put pockets in a tunic top she had and he wouldn't do it.

    1. You're probably right, Shelley, although the jacket does have an INSIDE pocket on one side. If men's clothes all gets pockets, it shouldn't be that different for women!

    1. Mine's a J. Crew - it's a gorgeous thick wool. I live in terror of spilling things on it!

  10. I need to check if the stairs shot shows the colour of the top to be more orange or is that truer than the other shots? Whatever, it's gorgeous. Yes, you're true class today, those shoes being the icing on the classy cake.

    1. The stair photos are usually more accurate for colour, but the top is a vibrant bright orange. Thank you, Anna!
