Christmas and Boxing Day Cheer, from Me, L and Vizzini

A very Merry Christmas to my readers - the very best to all of you from me, L and Vizzini.
Vizzini gets lots of love from us, even if he doesn't always return it.

L and I do stockings in bed on Christmas morning - it's been our tradition for nearly 20 years. I get spoiled, and so does he!
So much chocolate, oh yes. I spy many books, a game, a bottle of scotch, a leather belt, a vintage belt buckle and a cool necklace.

Vizzini pokes around in L's pile of goodies.
He got a chirpy bird, some bouncy balls and a new blanket for him to sleep on.

Our dear friends Cat and Ross gave us each a funny pair of socks. L loathes meetings, so his is apt.
"I'm a delicate f**king flower" is one of my favourite sayings. How did they find those socks??

My dear friend Caro and her mom Hazel gave me this original painting of Hazel's.
I just love it.

It's called "Perfect Pink Stillettos".
They are indeed perfect!

Vizzini was all full of beans - so much rustling paper! The sizzle of bacon as I cooked breakfast!
"And is that a squirrel I see in the tree?"
After a leisurely breakfast, much coffee and showers, L and I got ready to head over to Mom's to hang out with my family for the day.
L and I walked to town to catch the bus, then had to walk 1.5 km to get to Mom's.

  • Dress - no label, consignment; last worn here (maybe?) in October 2015 several times in Seattle and Nashville
  • Cardigan - Jacob, thrifted; last seen here a couple of weeks ago with tonal sparkles
  • Shoes - Sperry, thrifted; first worn here in November with more shine and sparkle
  • Coat (below) - Forever 21, thrifted

All very comfy things for sitting around, walking, opening presents and eating turkey dinner. Best Brussels sprouts ever, courtesy of my bro, Dave.
The bottom half of this dress is all sequins. More shiny on the legs.

And furry outerwear.
My studded black leather Danier gloves were a little on the cold side. I should have worn a warmer coat.

The stuff:
A long day hanging out with my extended family. I took my slippers to Mom's place (a smart move!).

Gold bling:
I feel like you can't possibly wear too much bling on Christmas.

  • Necklace - consignment
  • Cuff - Jezebel Charms, gift from L
  • Gold chain - vintage 80s, Grandma J's
  • Amber ring - late 90s
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop
  • Ear-balls - Dior

Goodies from Mom and the fam.
"I see no gift with my name on it."
90% less cat.
"Catnip bubbles? What kind of trickery is this? I can't eat them!"
A blended scotch, some catnip bubbles (there you go, Vizzini!), a mug, an Indigo gift card and a cool necklace. There was also a pin - hmmm...Vizzini?

Today, L and I walked to town in the rain and saw "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".
For a movie with a fore-ordained ending, I enjoyed it.

  • Top - Jeanne Beker, consignment; last seen here in November when I modified the neckline
  • Jeans - Mark., thrifted; last worn here in early December with Helmut Lang
  • Shoes - Sperry, thrifted; last worn up there for Christmas!
  • Coat (below) - Vassali, consignment

In retrospect, I regret not wearing any socks, however, this was great for sitting in a theatre for a couple of hours.
We had a little shop at the CD store and grabbed some tacos for lunch. Yum!

Outerwear:
I grabbed that purple beret on the way out of the house. Grey wool Parkhurst fingerless gloves and my thrifted fur boa kept me warm.

The stuff;
My new necklace from L - he bought it at Vanity Fair Antique Mall (a great store, full of antiques that locals consign their stuff).

It's by Robert Larin (it's signed), who was a Canadian jeweler in the late 60s/early 70s.
There is a little blurb about him here, and not much else about him online. I love this cool piece, though. It's pewter that's cast using the "cire perdu" (lost wax) method, which means only unique pieces, since no molds are kept. The centre piece is a bit of bronze.

  • Necklace - Robert Larin, vintage 60s/70s, gift from L
  • Earrings - Glee

In other news, you might have noticed that I've had my nails done all fancy-like for a week or so.
I used to do my nails constantly and have gotten out of the habit over the years. Anyway, it's a fun thing to do - low commitment.

I hope everyone is enjoying whatever they're doing.
"Warm feelings to my fans."
Happy Boxing Day!

  1. You seem to have had a nice relaxing Christmas and got some wonderful gifts. L's necklace to you is beautiful. Loved both your outfits; I really, really like the embossed looking trousers. I hope I can find something similar when I next go charity shopping.

I hope Vizzini liked his gifts!

    1. Vizzini loves the blanket, but the other things had to be taken away (he can't be trusted with them alone). It was a lovely day, thank you, Veronica!

    1. Aren't they awesome socks? So fun! Thanks, Lorena - I almost never do my nails, but maybe that's something I'll do a little more of.

  3. Oh, Sheila, those tights are magnificent!
I bought socks for my son from the same company-something about a brewery with a Roman in a chariot. He's taken his socks home so I can't give you a brand name...
    The painting is a treasure.

    1. The tights are awesome, but were very expensive so I won't be buying more. Thank you so much, Elle!

  5. Love both outfits! Those gold-embossed tights are just amazing. I noticed Boneshaker by Cherie Priest in the gift pile; I really enjoyed that book, and hope you and/or L will, too. Her books about Lizzie Borden fighting paranormal evil (Maplecroft and sequel whose name I am blanking on---Chapelwood, maybe?) are also excellent.

    Here's to a sparkly 2017!

  8. Looks and sounds like a wonderful Christmas Sheila! :) I really like your nails - I like blue and purple together :) I mentioned to my mum that I'd been trying to get more time to do my nails recently, was so happy to unwrap a HUGE collection of nail polish from her on Christmas day. I'm very lucky.

  11. What a lot of lovely presents you both had. Your black dress looked like a great choice for Christmas eating to excess. And slippers to wear later - great idea! I got new slippers for Christmas (amongst other things) which was mega exciting. The nail polish looks fab. I'm letting my nails have a bit of a break for a week or so just to let them breath.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year x

  12. The Christmas stocking was my favourite thing when I was a kid and I still continued the tradition when I was in relationships. Sounds like you all did very well for Christmas! I've seen those socks in a couple of stores here - the sayings on them are great.

I saw Rogue One over the holidays and thought it was alright, but didn't enjoy it nearly as much as The Force Awakens.

    1. Yes, we only do stockings now, but they are BIG stockings, hee hee. Yes, it was good but not great. A bit of a downer, really, especially with Carrie Fisher's death. :(
