Leather Pants, a Buh-Bye Blouse, and No Coat Left Behind

A little late tonight, as I was out for dinner with my long-time bestie, Janet, for a bit in honour of both of our recent birthdays. I had to wear something special.
Leather pants! These always get a strong reaction.

  • Blouse - Peter Nygard, thrifted; purchased here for $6.00
  • Leather pants - Gap, 2000, vintage store; last seen here (2nd outfit) in February with the yeti jacket
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last worn here in September with power colour red
  • Leather trench (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted

First wearing of this lovely new-to-me blouse, and sadly, it will also be the last. Although I loved it, it did itch a little bit, and the structure just felt weird. It's snug in the body but so loose everywhere else. Ah, 1990s, you and your crazy blouses.
Oh, the leather jeans are going nowhere, don't you worry yourself about that! I love these so much.

My outerwear was way too freakin' hot today. Where is the cold weather? I am ready for it!
The gloves (Parkhurst) and scarf (vintage Pierre Balmain, thrifted) were unnecessary, as was the hat - it didn't even rain.

The stuff:
Shiny shoes! So...shiny!

Simple bling:
I liked how the earrings went with the blouse.

  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Ring - late 90s

So, aside from a light itch and fit issues with the blouse, the other reason it's not lasting with me is that it ripped. Aw, so sad!
Not even at a seam (where it could potentially be fixed), but right through the back at the shoulder, through the middle of the fabric. Dang! I will give it to Lesley at work for crafts if she wants it. It's gorgeous fabric. And at $6.00 per wear, I'm glad I didn't pay more.

I mentioned back on the day that I bought that very blouse, that I'd found a grey wool men's coat for L, but the sleeves were too short. This is the coat.
Isn't it a classic cut? I can't find a fabric content tag anywhere, but I'm sure this is either 100% wool or a wool/cashmere blend. It is so soft, and I can tell it has barely been worn.

A bit of searching around [Ukranian eBay??] reveals that this is from the 80s - the brand is "borgeoiis menswear" - and that the content is indeed wool and cashmere. Hurray! I knew I could trust my sense of touch!
It's a 32/39...whatever that means.
Both sides have inner pockets like this and the flaps on the front also are pockets. It has structured, but not shoulder-padded, shoulders.

This is why I had to buy it, even though I knew it probably wouldn't fit L.
FIFTEEN DOLLARS. I've had a glass of wine that cost more than that!

Sorry, Nick, I've decided to keep it for myself, even if it does up backwards (heh).
It fits me perfectly. And yes, it's obviously menswear, but so what? Quality is quality and I like the fit, and I can use a beautiful coat like this. One door opens, another door closes. And so it goes.

  1. Oh too bad about the shirt: fit and tear. I was going to mention that there was something in the shape that seemed odd. Oh and I am all for that manly jacket - I think it looks amazing.

    1. Yeah, I am sad about the shirt, but eh, you win some, you lose some. Thanks! Now, if only it were cold enough to wear the coat...

  2. Whoa, glad you kept that coat. I love the fit and it must feel dreamy. Good one. And it will handle all the layering that goes on in winter. Your leather pants outfit is fantastic, but so much for the blouse, sad. I hope Lesley can use that beautiful fabric. It's a shame when one flaw makes a garment unwearable.

    1. It is QUALITY, a really gorgeous piece. I know, I'm so sad about the shirt. Dang! It makes me want to take up sewing (not really).

  3. What a fab pair of leather strides (London slang for trousers) and what a fabulous fit! Shame about the blouse, though. Lovely golden shoes - a girl can do anything in gold shoes.

I love your men's coat. It fits you beautifully and looks so stylish.

I can send you some cold weather if you like - it was bloody freezing here today!

    Stay warm

    1. Ooh, strides, what a great name - I definitely stride in them! Thanks so much, Veronica! Please send cold weather - it is currently 14 degrees! So warm!

  4. Love the leather jeans and coat. The blouse is nice too, but I'm getting your issues with it. Now that it ripped, you don't even have to feel guilty that it has to go. xxx

    1. Thank you! No, I don't feel guilty, but I prefer when my clothes last slightly longer!

  5. It's a shame about the blouse - it is a perfect mix of the colours of the pants and the shoes! I used to wear a lot of secondhand men's wool dress coats like that. They were inexpensive at the local thrift stores, and really well made.

  6. Burgundy and gold work so well with your colouring Sheila, lovely! Shame about that blouse, but a bonus with the men's coat. Seems like a fair trade to me! And the gold shoes, well I just have to give a little ripple of applause for them xxx

  7. Gosh you look good in these trousers. A shame that pretty blouse is beyond repair (and itchy). The shoes however, the shoes..... I so want these shoes!! Perfect. Shiny shoes! Yay.
