Practically Classy: Grey, Houndtooth and Lemon

Hey, it's okay, no more scary pictures of Alice Cooper, you can come back now! Hee hee! Everything's back to normal. We are even finished with the painting of our building, so now the stair pictures are all extra spiffy.
And look at me - practically classy in my sweater and skirt. Who is this woman?

  • Sweater - Banana Republic, thrifted; purchased here in July for $19.99
  • Skirt - Nygard, consignment; last seen here in December 2015 with burgundy
  • Shoes - Gentle Souls; last worn here in June as "Shoes My Husband Hates"
  • Coat (below) - Samuel Dong, thrifted

First wearing of this new-to-me sweater - I love the bright lemon yellow with the dove grey "shrug" across the sleeves and shoulders. And the yellow carries around to the back! I love that!

It was maybe a little warm for today, as it's a thick wool and cashmere blend. But it was so soft. I wore a vintage cami underneath to hide my bright blue bra.
This is one of my favourite skirts, ever - it's been packed away, but I'm still surprised that I haven't worn it since December.

Funny thing, though - last time I wore it was with a lovely burgundy wool suit jacket, which I gave away (the whole suit) along with my houndstooth suit (this one). Well, my dear friend Yvonne ended up with both of them at my last massive giveaway in the late spring. And tonight she was wearing the jacket with the houndstooth skirt and red boots, with a black top. Don't get it? Go look at the last time I wore this skirt above again (here, I'll make it easy on ya). Basically the same outfit! Ha!

Outerwear? Outer-there! (That never gets old).
Zippery, bubble-hemmed frilly bowler-hatted-ness! With studded gloves!

The stuff:
I think I just have too many clothes and shoes (I had ninety pairs of shoes, boots and sandals last time I counted). They just don't get worn enough. However, on the plus side, they should last me a very long time.

Classy bling:
First wearing of these earrings.

  • Jet necklace - vintage 60s, Grandma J's
  • Earrings - local

  1. I'd never have thought to combine lemon yellow with dove grey, but they're actually great together. I'm not very good with yellow, never knowing what to combine it with, so I might give this a go! xxx

    1. Yellow is one of my favourite pairings with grey, actually. All shades! Try it!

    2. Great sweater, looks so cozy.
You know last night I counted shoes, because I was doing my editing and so on.. counted 65. Before I had like 112 - its insane. It is too much. I have plans on downsizing to about 50-55. In my case the humidity takes a toll on them, wether they're leather, plastic, cheap or expensive..

    3. I don't have the humidity issues, but I'm trying to weed out the crappy shoes that hurt, and only have good quality, comfy shoes. And I don't feel the need to weed them down any further at this time, but good for you!

  2. It's funny - the having so many clothes you rotate through them and wear them less frequently so they last longer made me smile. I used that very same justification to buy my second designer bag. As you'd only ever need two right?! And it meant I could rest one and use one, so they'd both last longer. I don't recall my reasoning for adding a third and fourth etc....ha!

Clothes-wise I like the idea of having a big wardrobe I can rotate through but I also like the idea of having a small wardrobe that I really love everything in.

I like your outfit too, I like grey and yellow together so that's a nice top!

    1. Because I thrift most of my clothes, the volume doesn't bother me too much - and I don't feel as bad about having to justify the quantity. The shoes tend to be worse for me, but better quality is always better for my feet (I tell myself!). When I feel like I need a smaller wardrobe, I do a 30-day capsule, like I did earlier this year. It reminds me how creative I can get with fewer things.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the great comment!
