Lilac and Last Icicles

Oh, man, is there anything worse than the first day after a long weekend?
How about a piece of clothing that drives you nuts? That's annoying, for sure.

  • Dress - D'Allairds, vintage 60s, thrifted; last seen here a year ago June 2015 for L's birthday
  • Shoes - Poetic Licence, thrifted; last worn here for our New Year's Eve party (that would be January)

It wasn't the dress that bothered me - it was the shoes! They are so out of here! They kept slipping off the backs of my heels, and they rubbed on my toes. I am becoming much less tolerant of uncomfortable shoes, so beautiful as they are, they can go be pretty at someone else's home.

In addition to today and last New Year's Eve (here), I've only worn them one other time (here, 2nd outfit). I'm not that happy with my cost-per-wear, since it's now at $10.00 per wear - I originally paid $30.00 for these. However, Poetic Licence shoes usually cost about 5 times that, so better to have a few wears out of them for cheap, right? At least I didn't pay retail!
Although I haven't worn this dress in over a year, it's a keeper - I love the beautiful lilac shade, the wonderful pattern (even matched up over the back zipper!), and the shiny fabric. It's in good shape for a dress that's probably over 50 years old.

The stuff:
These shoes also don't bend at all, so they clomp when I walk. And the soles are slippy! Why do they have to be so pretty and awesome and have icicle heels and yet be so un-good to wear?

Crystal bling:
That's a very heavy necklace. It's hard to see in the pictures, but everyone remarked on it at work.

  • Necklace - antique store, gift from L
  • Cuff - St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop
  • Earrings - local

    1. I'd be pretty ticked if I'd paid full price retail for these! Thanks, Patti!

  3. Too bad about the shoes - but its alright to let them haunt someone else ;) specially since you did not pay full price.
    Love the dress-

  4. Shame that the shoes are more pretty than practical but I agree with you - no need to keep uncomfortable shoes! Doesn't make sense that something so painful would stay in our wardrobes. I've let a lot of shoes go for that same reason.

  5. That's too bad about the shoes, especially when they are sooo pretty. I have a pair of gorgeous shoes that I can only wear if I'm going to be sitting because they have no bend either, so I clomp around and my heel slips. The dress deserves better!

  6. Stunning outfit! The marriage of rock crystal jewelry with clear heeled shoes is so chic + inspiring. It's a shame that these shoes have fit issues for you. They're really spectacular. Hopefully another pair that hits many of the same style notes will come your way.

    1. Thank you! I hope to find something close - the search for the white/cream shoe continues.

  7. First of all I have to say that the icicle necklace is absolutely beautiful Sheila. I have a rose quartz and amethyst one which are also in large chunks, but boy is it heavy! The shoes are such a bummer, especially with those amazing heels, but man we don't need to suffer for our art do we? And finally the frock of frocks is vintage heaven. You look divine and must have felt so wonderful bustling about in this wow of a dress. Twit-twoooo!

    1. Yes, this necklace is really heavy too - I have to wear it over something as it's hard on my bare skin. No, we do not need to suffer! Gone go the shoes! Thank you, Anna!
