Polka Dots and Dragons

My coworker Fiona asked me if I was doing a theme of polka dots this week.
Nope, entirely a coincidence that I've worn them two days in a row! Actually, if you count Friday's outfit, that's 3 work days in a row. Maybe I should wear my polka dot pants and dress!

  • Sweater - Hawick of Scotland, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) in November 2014(!) for a shopping expedition
  • Skirt - Orenzo, vintage 80s, thrifted; purchased here for $4.00 in May
  • Shoes - Channi B; first worn here a couple of weeks ago with cream leather
  • Jacket (below) - Danier Couture, consignment; last seen here (several times) for our trip to Vancouver in March

I'm pretty shocked that I haven't worn this silk and cashmere sweater in a year and a half! It's by Hawick of Scotland, and today I noticed for the first time that it also has a "Sfera Italia" label in the seam down the side. Apparently, that's an Italian clothing line. Who knew?
I absolutely adored this skirt today. I cut about half of the lining out, to about knee-length, however, I might just remove it entirely. It was scratchy and stiff, contrasted with the delightful soft swooshiness of this skirt (I twirled for Fiona). I ended up pulling on a black vintage half-slip to line the lining. That's just excessive.
I wore this little soft leather cropped jacket as my outerwear, but ended up wearing it most of the day as it was a tad chilly in the office.

The stuff:
I wore the shoes to match the jewelry. I figured all that black and cream needed some pops of colour. The skirt's gold metallic dots shed on my shoes - you can see some of the sparkle on the sides above and on the toe below.

Dragon bling:
I should wear this necklace and bracelet set more...but then they might not feel so special!

  • Necklace/bracelet - Vintage Expo, gift from L
  • Earrings - 5th anniversary gift from L

  1. Just looking at the back neckline of this gorgeous sweater ... is it reversible?

  2. So that's where the dragons were hiding! What a lovely set.

Love the skirt and the top is so classic. I really, really like those blue shoes. A lovely outfit, Sheila.

  3. It's a shame the lining on this skirt isn't as nice to wear as the actual skirt itself, but you could definitely make it work as you have lots of slips you could wear instead.

I picked up a beautiful printed maxi skirt in a fill a bag sale at an opshop clearance. There was no private place to try things on so I just grabbed and hoped! When I got home I realised the lining had been cut out and it was sheer. Never had any luck finding something cheap and cheerful to wear under it, so after holding onto it for almost a year I donated it again.

    1. Mica, that makes me so sad that you had to donate your maxi skirt! Next time, drop me a line, and I'll send you a vintage half-slip (they are machine-wash/tumble dry). I see them at thrift stores all the time, and I would happily send one to you, as thanks for being so awesome!

    2. Aww thanks so much Sheila! :) I will certainly keep that in mind next time I see something sheer! I usually avoid it in stores but can get too excited in opshops and not fully think things through as it's only a few dollars, and all the shops here are for charities.

  4. Beautiful skirt indeed, I think removing the slip is a great idea and then you can just replace it with either a long slip or a knee height one.
Skirts that hit at the ankle don't look well on me.

  5. I would wear all of this outfit right now. It's wonderful, particularly the skirt and the jacket together. The idea of cutting the scratchy lining has to be right and of course you can just wear a half slip instead.
