Baby Blue, Kitty Monster, Mailbag, and Sofia in Green

Woo! It's a blustery day out there today! Wind, rain and well...weather.
I have to say: I really loved my outfit today. Can I say that? Does that make me full of myself?

  • Jacket - Danier Couture, consignment; last worn here in February with green jungle
  • Blouse - no label, early 80s, thrifted; purchased here for $8.95
  • Skirt - Club Monaco, consignment; last seen here with leopard in February
  • Boots - BCBG; last worn here with cobalt and fiesta! last week

I see someone peeking around the corner!
If I hadn't been doing a capsule, I probably would have worn this blouse with grey or black or something plain, but since I am doing a capsule, I have a limited number of bottoms to play with (get your minds out of the gutter, people!) and this gold skirt struck me. Why not gold?

The jacket was perfect for styling over the blouse because it lets the sweet little ruffled cuffs stick out and the rounded neckline shows off the blouse's high collar. Many of my coworkers had early 80s flashbacks over blouses like this, worn with cameos or little ribbon ties!
"Mmm, something on the floor. I should eat it."
Keeping it modern with my over-the-knee boots.

The stuff:
The warm gold tone of my pearls helped to tie in the gold skirt with the baby blue, noted L this morning - wow, I've taught him well!

  • Necklace - Aldo
  • Ear-balls - thrifted

I was trying to take a backwards selfie (of infinity!) in my two bathroom mirrors so that you could see how cool these ear-balls look, but something else got captured instead.
"Dum de dum, what's up here?"
Vizzini, you monster, what are you doing?
"Looking for criminal activity, ma'am!"
He likes it when I turn the tap on for him. He's quite fascinated by the sink.
"I must test this with my front feet only."
Get out of the sink, you doofus.
"Maybe you should feed me? Or maybe I should bite your camera string."
Mailbag! I have had a couple of questions, so here we go.

1. Ally of Shybiker asked, "I've never worn a leather dress: I wonder how that feels. Is it heavy?"

It feels awesome, actually. Real leather is...skin, so it stretches (some) and over time conforms to your body's shape. It breathes wonderfully, being skin; its reputation for being hot is not deserved, although it's a little too warm to wear in summer, and a touch too cold for really frigid winters. I call spring and autumn "leather weather" because it's perfectly suited for wind (blocks it), rain (won't hurt it! really!) and shoulder-season temperatures.

Fake leather, PVC, pleather, whatever you call it - that stuff is hot! It does not breathe at all. I hate fake leather. It also tends to rot away, dissolving into a gooey mess.

Is it [leather] heavy? No, no more than wearing denim, but that does depend on the thickness of it. The dress I wore yesterday was Italian leather, which is very thin and was tanned to be very soft and supple. Vintage suede (suede is just the back-side of leather!) tends to be really thick, and suede overall tends to be more fragile than leather as it's treated more to make it softer. If you shop for leather second-hand, feel it! Good quality leather stays soft a long, long time. Never buy hard leather - it will not soften up.

2. Anna of Anna's Island Style asked, after enjoying yesterday's shoes asked, "What size are you?"

I'm anywhere from a size 8.5 to a 10 (Canadian sizing is the same as US sizing), or a 39 to 40 in European sizing. It depends on the shoe. Yesterday's shoes are a 39, so about a 9. I have long skinny feet, disproportionate to my 5'4" height. I always try shoes on, even if they aren't "my" size, if they are anywhere close to that range. You never know!

And a treat: this is my awesome hairdresser Sofia, wearing my green leather jacket that I gave her a couple of months ago.
Isn't she beautiful? I love how she's styled  it! I bought it about a year ago and only ever wore it once, here (2nd outfit, as outerwear). It just wasn't me.

I love to give away my clothes (I donated several bags last week, and gave away a massive amount at Book Club, AND took 3 giant bags to work on Friday and dispersed them), and I love it even more when I see my friends and colleagues wearing them! Thanks, Sofia!

  1. Sofia looks awesome in your old jacket! :)

It's great that you're able to share the love and pass on so much of your wardrobe so others can get some joy from the clothes too.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that you loved your outfit! Some outfits just make you feel great, they are the best! :)

  2. Oh isn't that how we're supposed to feel ? I think you look marvelous too - and you wore your new blouse right a way! I have stuff in the closet that are new that have not been worn in over a year. Or two.
I LOVELOVE the earrings and its so FUN to see how your wardrobe continues to live other lives...

  3. Honey you look smokin' today! The blouse is so cute, yet paired with that sexy jacket and those foxy boots, well it's hot stuff baby. If you're "full of yourself" then surely we (bloggers) all are, otherwise we wouldn't be clogging up the internet with endless photos of our "beautiful selves".
Oh goodie, I'm a 39 too, so if you ever, ever fall out of love with those shoes so let me know x

  5. Hey! It's been awhile. So happy to see you looking good and Vizzini being his crazy self. All cats love a sink. Silly things. Also how cool is your hair stylist! She must be to do your hair.

  6. You can most certainly say how much you love your outfit! I have days like that where I'm wearing something I love, and feel great in and as it doesn't happen all the time, I think it's worth noting.

I love Sofia's hair!! I give away a lot of clothing pretty regularly too, but most of my friends, and the people I work with aren't my size, so I usually end up donating most of my stuff to The Diabetes Association or Goodwill. Now that Spring seems to be on it's way, it's time for another purge.

  7. I totally agree on both things: it is awesome to give aways your clothes and shoes etc to friends. It is what they say: giving is even better than getting. As for your outfit... yes you can say you look awesome a you do indeed. I know he feeling when you tried to create an outfit and you were limited in a way (capsule in your case) and something emerges to surprise you. Love that feeling. So yes, this is a very very good outfit.
