Weekend Wrap-Up: Casual Yellow, Retro Navy and Visible Cowgirl Gone Shopping

I have a very busy week ahead, so it was essential that this weekend be quiet and mellow. Gotta recharge those batteries!
I had a lot of running around to do on Friday.

  • Sweater - Cotton Ginny, thrifted; purchased here for $5.00
  • Skirt - BB Dakota, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February for a shopping trip
  • Shoes - Down-to-Earth Hadfield, Fluevog; last seen here with red leather pants

Fist pump!
 How happy that it's Friday?
This sweater got baggier and baggier as the day went on! I loved it, though - totally like wearing pajamas to work.

After work, I went to my coworker's house and pawed through her closet and jewelry box. I reorganized her stuff, put some outfits together, and set up her jewelry so that she could see everything.
I am ready for all weather
Her husband made us a lovely dinner - what a nice thank you! I'd planned to go home after that and dye my hair (my roots are atrocious!), but decided to go downtown and cavort with my friends. I'm so glad I did!

The stuff:
I walked many miles in my men's shoes.

  • Earrings - Stella and Dot, consignment

After maybe a little too much fun the night before, L and I slept in and then went for brunch at the diner.
I have never worn this dress in the 7.5 years that I've been blogging.

  • Dress - no label, handmade, vintage 60s?; seen once here in my "Never Seen" series (link) done in 2010
  • Shoes - Half Truth Veda, Fluevog; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September with sequins

I mentioned when I featured this dress back in 2010 that I might have to put it into my active wardrobe; well, that's what I'm doing. It's not a bad dress, although a bit snagged in parts - more than I remember it being snagged, so Vizzini probably got at it at some point. I'm not sure I'm going to keep it.
After brunch, L went birthday shopping for me (my birthday is coming! so excited!), and I wandered home.

Outerwear? Outer there!
Yo
I love this light coat, although it was too warm for it.

The stuff:
These are my go-to walking shoes.

Snaggy bling:
The ring and bracelet were a poor choice for trying clothes on. No connection with the existing snags on the dress, though.

  • Cuff - consignment
  • Ring - consignment
  • Earrings - thrifted

I had a long browse in my favourite little antique store - it's full of cases with jewelry and knick-knacks and has a clothing section tucked away in back.
I found a pair of brand-new Hue leggings in brown for $9.50 (regular $35.00), and this cute half-slip for $12.00.

L and I hung out and played Arkham Horror on Saturday night after I dyed my hair.
This is my link-up for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style - new website, shiny! - even though I'm sort of invisible here. How to pose when your location is half sun and shade...

  • Dress - Love Dress O, Bodybag by Jude, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February for a shopping trip with Yvonne
  • Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) last weekend to see CR Avery

Fresh deep purple hair is mine again! It's much easier to dye when it's longer - I just wear my bangs forward.
I'm rather fond of this dress - it fits me so well. It was a pain for shopping in, though. Hard to get on and off (side zip and snap at the neck, and I have to pull it over my head).

Outerwear:
I thought I was done with my jean jacket for the season, but it was even too warm for today. By the time I got home from town, lugging my two big bags of groceries, I was sweating purple down my neck!

The stuff:
The world's most comfortable boots.

Cowgirl bling:
I love that belt buckle!

  • Buckle - Shi Studio
  • Belt - Tony Lama, thrifted
  • Earrings - Plum

I went to the Patch first and had a wee browse around the new Fall arrivals. I found a few good things!
I nearly giggled when I found this white Danier Leather jacket.

The overall leather is perforated.
All those zippers! And the neckline works done up, all gathered, or worn open.

And the cuffs and back waistband are stretchy with shiny silver!
It was $44.00. Very happy with that.

This blouse is more mustard than it looks here.
It's got wonderful drape and reminds me of 70s blouses. This would be fab with the shiny disco pants!

Banana Republic for $14.95.
And it's 100% silk - but washable. It's from Fall 2012.

The gold buttons have a cool detail.
They are actually stamped "Banana Republic".

My coworker Emily is looking for a neutral-coloured full skirt with a sheer overlay for her Christmas outfit. I found this no-label tulle skirt for $12.95.
I'm keeping it if she doesn't like it. I can see it with a chunky sweater and boots, or flats and a fitted cardigan.

The last thing I found was this belt. I recognized the leather immediately.
It's a leather belt, but not marked. I know that Fluevog uses/used this leather for a lot of different styles of shoes and they do make belts, but this belt doesn't feel like the same quality as their stuff usually is.
A quick search reveals no hits for this belt, so I have to conclude that it's a faux-Vog! Ah well, I only paid $9.99 for it, and now I have a belt that matches two pairs of floral real-Vogs. Still a win in my book!

Hope y'all had a great weekend!

  1. Can't decide which footwear I prefer - the flowery Fluevogs or the luscious cowboy boots. Since you have a matching belt, I think the 'vogs are the winner! Love your long purple bangs, too.

  2. Hi Sheila, I love your hair! And! I'm going gaga over your window pane checked coat! Oh, how I adore that style, and with the shoes! I love the whole look! The dress underneath too!

I remember when I could wear big, cozy sweaters. Now, I just think HOT, HOT, HOT! LOL.

  3. That belt is such a lucky find, even if it's not the real deal! The print is a perfect match!

I really like your mustard shirt! I want to find washable silk - anything I see here is handwash only. Although the good thing is my favourite store is going from using cheap materials like polyester to silk and better cottons so maybe I'll stumble across something! :)

Shame that the dress is too snagged to stay in your wardrobe long, it's very pretty!

  4. Fabulous shopping, as always. That navy dress, though it may have its flaws is a stunner on you - esp with your hair color! Come over and link with Vis Monday when you have a wee moment. xoxo

  5. Sheila, I think your collection of shoes must rival our dear Judith's hats! Adore those flowered Flues. Am thinking (rather self-centeredly) that you should keep that tulle skirt. Wouldn't it look great with those shoes?

  6. I absolutely love your hair She-woman !
I cannot believe that dress got no wear even though its such beautiful piece… (although I can relate in so many ways)
Oh and on the belt that matches the shoes, this is a very common print in Argentina - its found in every other store. They make belts, handbags, wallets, jackets … all in this pretty flower on leather print.
So maybe its from South America ;)
