Primary Mix and Fit to Be Dyed

Monday are never happy; they are only there to be endured. So says me!
I have endured, and I survived. All this colour helped!

  • Cardigan - no label, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in May with the white dress I wore this past weekend
  • Top - Anne Klein, thrifted; last seen here in June with pink and purple
  • Skirt - Bianca Nygard, thrifted; last worn here in April with a double flare
  • Shoes - Feet First; last seen here in June with magenta fringe

I had a lot of positive reactions to this outfit, mostly about all the colours.
You can't really go wrong with variations on the primary colours of red, blue and yellow (especially lemon yellow). They always work together.

The stuff:
It's like I planned it!

Red bling:
Great red balls!

  • Earrings - Tania Gleave
  • Ring - gift from Cindy
  • Scarf - thrifted

Okay, now I'm grateful for suggestions about dyeing my hair, but please understand a couple of things.

One: I've been dyeing it since I was 18. That's THIRTY years. I know what I'm doing, and although I'm not a hair professional, I do a good job on my own hair with regular colour. And while I appreciate the advice about putting Vaseline along my hairline, but I've been all over that for a couple of decades.

Two: This is not your standard hair dye. Nosirree. Beware - graphic hairline photos!
I have washed my hair, and scrubbed my scalp, TEN times since Saturday morning.
It's super-duper, not-standard hair dye. I can't rub Vaseline into my scalp or I'd get some crazy patchiness, and that is my scalp right there with the crazy purple blobules. I have to wait until my scalp sheds before the purple comes off. That's how insane this dye is.

Can you imagine what this would have looked like without the gobs of Vaseline I DID put on?
My scalp will look normal by Friday
The problem is mostly because I have very short (almost shaved) hair on the sides and back - you can see my scalp through the hair, so the dye is really noticeable, much moreso than someone with long hair. And even though I coat my entire ear (and my arms, and my hands, and my whole face, and my neck and my entire upper back) in Vaseline, some of it always sneaks through.

The dye that I use - Splat - is more like a stain, like if you were staining furniture. I touched it - once - with my bare finger and my finger stayed black for about a day, fading to purple and then magenta over a couple of days. It lasts really well...because it colours really well.

So there you have it. Thank you again for all the suggestions of using Vaseline, but I'm covered!

  1. I'll say you're covered! Sounds like all the major body parts and then some! I've seen your locks for real, and they are too fabulous...worth the effort plus, plus, plus!

Your outfit is giving me nostalgic feelings...something kind of sixties about it. And it hints at fall!

  2. Oh yay. You're still wearing a scarf. There is something very 1950's coed about this outfit. Neato. I am impressed that you dye your own hair. I tried to color my own hair once and had to call the l'Oreal Help Hotline. It cost me almost $200 at a salon to fix my little dye job. You have my respect.

  3. i wonder if an acid exfoliant would have any greater effect in encouraging the skin to turn over faster? eg, like something with salicytic acid or the like. or a retinol product that stimulates skin growth.

  4. We all seem to be getting a similar retro vibe here. Wow, that's some hair dye. I love it. It gets the job done! Right on. I would rather have purple skin and great hair than weak colour that washes right out. I tried the Manic Panic coloured hair gel. I'll post on it.

  7. The scarf is very fetching - and the dye will shed - so enjoy all the headwear options (Judith's Hat Attack is in a few days). Love the primaries together - and I loooove the hem of that skirt. You look fabulous, as ever. xo

  8. The trials and tribulations of beauty!!!! I spilled some hair dye on my white marble floor, and I had the blotch to remind me for months. It finally faded away. I wish hair color would last for 4 months.

  9. I love the purple hair and you could convince anyone that purple skin is cool. You look amazing in a classic silhouette like that. Really, I think it is the best on you and the expression jaw dropping comes to mind. Then the blast of colour that is signature Sheila takes a classic look and makes it arty! Awesome! I adore the shape of that skirt. So much better than a regular pencil skirt. Miss you, and really hope I can get to Victoria in September and we can meet up. xoxo

  10. I loved all of the colours here - specially your hair - it rocks She.
AND WOW - I thought henna stained my scalp but, you've outdone me.

  11. Wow, that is some hardcore hair dye. I go to a salon to get mine done because I don't want to be messing around with that stuff (although I have in the past). It kills me to spend that much money on so little hair though....
