I Got It All Going On

I don't know what it is about me and street people. It's like my colourful outfits release some urge inside them to say just what is on their minds.
I was standing at the bus stop, on my way to a dentist appointment, when a man hollered, "You really got it all going ON!"

To be fair, I did have magenta socks and shiny pink runners on, as well as a green scarf, purple gloves and my bowler hat. I did have it going on.

  • Jacket - Le Chateau, consignment; last seen here in March with Boss
  • Blouse - Mexx, consignment; last seen here in September with brocade
  • Skirt - Chia, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in August with spotty greens and purples
  • Shoes - Guess; last seen here in May with mod

I adore this black velvet embroidered jacket. It was a little gloomy today, but warmish, so I didn't wear a coat, just the hat/scarf/gloves mentioned.

The blue blouse underneath wasn't really visible, but it filled the neckline well.

Butt shot!
I love this purple skirt so much. It even has pockets.

The stuff:
These shoes have been in the "get them reheeled, dammit" bag for a while. I finally did it just before our trip, so now I can wear them without fear of destroying anyone's floors.

Shiny bling.
My lovely Venetian necklace!

  • Necklace - gift from L
  • Earrings  - local
  • Coppery ring - consignment
  • Lapis Lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

It's Shoe Shine this week! Get ready to bust out some funky kicks!
See you there!

  1. That's so funny about the street people and their comments. I get that too. I would have liked to see the whole thing, hat and all. I laughed at the Carol Burnett comment you had a while back too - reddish hair and you're Carol, berets and you're French. ???!!!

  3. Interesting and true observation. I experience the same thing when wearing biker gear. People who ignore me in normal clothes feel free to approach and address me with a variety of topics for discussion. I suspect that when we stand out from the herd (as you clearly do with your colorful clothes), we release inhibitions other people have. Not sure why that happens, but it happens.

  4. Love that jacket, and a hollered compliment is better than no attention at all! Our bin man (who may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer...) told me I was "a good looking lass" the other week. I'll take that! xxx

  5. I like to think that when we stand out from the herd, as Shybiker so aptly puts it, it DOES bring some joy and light to another's day...especially a homeless or destitute person. And whatever it is that brings out their uninhibited comments, BRING IT ON (as long as they're not profane)! You DO have it goin' on....so BRING it on!
    p.s Purple leather skirt? LOVE!

  6. I think of it as signaling. When you dress a certain way, you make an unspoken statement that you are different in some way, and I think that in turn draws out others who are different. (NOT saying that hollering at you on the street is ok, just a general theory on the not-catcalling type stuff.)

In SF people dress pretty interestingly, and in Newport Beach really not so much. I get compliments in both places, but in Newport, the gals who talk to me about my clothes' eyes just light up, because I think they recognize a fellow feeling that they don't see nearly so often as gals in SF do.

  7. There was a guy who I presumed to be homeless that I used to pass on the street quite often and he always commented on how much he liked my hair. I think that when you do step out of the box (or stand out from the herd, people feel freed up to comment on what you're wearing. The jacket and skirt are such great pieces; they make any outfit they are a part of into something wonderful.

  8. I think I would definitely look at you and admire you as you went by… the colours and the confidence you wear your clothes with it surely worth noticing.
