Apr 14th - Outfit #12 - Ultimate Challenge and Shopping

Yesterday was both my WW meeting and the start of our Ultimate season. I forgot to plan for Ultimate when I did my April capsule planning - oops. My usual plan is to have light clothes (for weighing in) that I can easily change out of at the field.

Instead of wearing my board shorts, t-shirt, runners and ball cap out in public (at my meeting and at the diner), I feel better about myself because I'm putting my best foot forward and making an effort to look nice. I even have a "bare bones" make-up bag for making myself more presentable after the game. It just helps keep me feeling more positive.

This was the closest I could find for a weigh-in/quick-change outfit in this month's capsule:
This is my yellow t-shirt (and please ignore that my boobs are totally flattened and squished into my sports bra; very flattering, ha ha!) and my grey pencil skirt. I've hiked the skirt up a bit and then cinched it at the waist with my leather belt.

I last wore the top here (last outfit), and the skirt here. To keep me warm I covered up with my python-printed leather jacket (not part of the capsule as outerwear).
I added my black kitten heels (last seen here), which ended up feeling pretty good after wearing cleats for 2.5 hours.

Jacket (Bebe, thrifted), t-shirt (INC, thrifted), skirt (Plum), belt (Gap), shoes (Enzo Angiolini, thrifted), necklace (Shi Studios).

Our game of Ultimate went well, and a bunch of us did lunch afterwards. It was a lovely sunny day, so I wandered around town after lunch and browsed through a few thrift stores and one consignment store.

Here's what I got (you can click on any of the pictures to embiggen)!
Contrast, thrifted, $5.00
White denim walking shorts (knee-length). They fit great and will be a nice alternate to jeans on a casual Friday or on the weekend.

I found this blouse on consignment. It's actually a really small animal/leopard print.
Express, consignment, $18.00
This will be a nice light blouse for hotter weather or for layering.

I found this blouse at a thrift store last weekend while looking for steampunk items:
Guess, thrifted, $13.50
I won't be wearing this for a costume piece, but I really liked the fine brown and white gingham check, the metal ball buttons and the hot pink stitching on all the seams. It was a little pricey for thrift, but it's good quality, and has a nice pin-up girl fit to it. I also usually don't go for logos on my clothes, but the crest is hot pink so I don't mind. Hee.

I was really excited by this jacket:
Not the Same Jeans, consignment, $30.00
It's a dark grey cotton (there are several different textures and weaves in this), with raveled edges on the ruffled parts. The sides have quite a dramatic peplum shape - eee! Love it. I am really grooving on this Victorian shaping lately.

Here's a shot of the back:
Great seaming, and although the bow is in the way, there is a U-dip at the bottom of the back hem. Don't you just love good back detail?

I couldn't resist this turquoise leopard sweater:
Precis, consignment, $26.00
This will probably be in next month's capsule. It's a nice easy piece that doesn't require a lot of styling.

I found this great dress:
No label, thrifted, $8.50
It's that nice jersey material that washes, scrunches and looks great on. I love the bright turquoise and know I'll get a lot of wear out of this, both alone and as a layering piece.

I wasn't 100% sold on this velvet cotton jacket, but I can't resist decorations.
Ann & J Concepts, thrifted, $9.50
The price and fit were too good to pass up. We'll see if it gets into a capsule by the end of September (when I switch back to my winter wardrobe). Of all the items I purchased, this is the one I'm least enamoured with.

I successfully resisted a lot of things I might have purchased in the past, by focusing on items that I really liked and thought I could use in the (sort of pre-planned) capsules for May-September. What do you think of the new purchases?

  4. I literally gasped at the ruffle grey jacket. OMG that's incredible. Also the blue jacket is pretty fantastic as well. I like how cohesive your pieces are. I bet you could take all those items, add in pieces from your own wardrobe and bam you'd have a capsule right there. All the colors work so well.

  9. I got completely envious about the grey Not The Same Jeans jacket! It's one of those pieces that can make wonderful any outfit.

i also liked the small animal print blouse and the "big" animal print sweater. The turquoise color of the dress is quite nice too.

Recently I also adopted a restricted attitude when in resale/thrift shops. I say to myself :"my closet is overfilled, I don't need more junk there. I will only buy the things I really-really like and those I will regret not buying later". (Sometimes it work, sometimes not :))

  10. Sheila: The outfit is great - love the splash of colour.
I am going through some big health issues at the moment, and I cannot wear my bra and prostheses, so I am flat - as my little granddaughter told her kindergarten class, "My Nana chopped off her breasts." Got to get further back from the cleaver!
I like both jackets - I am a magnet for jackets and even in summer here the little jackets will be useful.
Might need to be in Victoria in the next few weeks and am hoping to have tea with HHB, so might see you too.
