Neutrals Week! A Day Behind - Brown

I'm still feeling so dazed - there's such a trade-off with cold medication. On the one hand, my sinuses are clear! Hurray! On the other, what were we talking about? Huh? Oh, right, Neutrals Week!
Today's neutral is brown. I have a lot of brown in my wardrobe. When I was a kid, my mom liked to dress me in brown, I think partly because she never wore it (I'm sure I will get a phone call about this). I vividly recall this really groovy polyester pantsuit in a dark chocolate brown. It was trimmed with bright orange cuffs and had a big yellow and orange flower on it.

Today's outfit:
I had actually planned to wear these pants today, but the thought of having to pin up the hems so that I could walk to work made me change into this ultra-suede skirt. That's my plaid jacket and not really much else all that exciting about this.

My outerwear:
I do love a long coat at this time of year. I wish I'd worn a hat, though, as the temperatures are near freezing. Brrr! I got that scarf in a thrift store this past summer - it's from Jacob and it still had the tags on it. I got it for $4.00.

The stuff:
I love these Miz Mooz boots. They are one of my wardrobe staples. I re-heeled them this year, and they need a bit of a polish on the toes, but they are wearing well in their second year.

I liked the necklace with my ensemble.
It's like pirate booty!

Off to our Strata AGM, then I plan to crash on the couch. I am so behind on blogs, my bad (does anyone still say that?). I plan to catch up on Sunday.

Jacket (Armour Jeans, thrifted), cami (Esprit), skirt (Jones New York, thrifted), boots (Miz Mooz), necklace/earrings (Aldo Accessories).

  1. Very warm and pretty - what a great score on the scarf! I, too, would like some pics of the pantsuit : >

  2. I've been lurking this through this whole neutral week thing. Your party outfit was stunning -- from the top of your head to the tip of your toes!

Would you believe it's the belt that I love on THIS brown outfit? I know - it's plain as can be. (Maybe it's that great waistline that I'm jealous of and want to reproduce in my own little reality.....)

  3. So weird to see you in neutrals. It's just not you. Very nice outfit, but nothing more. Just "nice", you know. I love the necklace though.

But with the coat it's already a completely different story :)

Personally I'm not fond of brown. Brown + black were the colors of our school uniform, and I still feel I'm pretty fed up with them. Even when I buy something brown for myself, I try to avoid the hues that are similar to my uniform. I go for cognac or rich chocolate etc. But I liked my school and my school memories are very good ones. It's just that the colors around were quite boring.

  4. My first thoughts were "What a chic work outfit" and then I saw that coat and died. Who cares that it's neutrals week - I am becoming even more enamored with color!

  5. LOVE the coat! And I love this look! With the blazer cinched in with a belt over the flowing skirt, it looks sharp, yet feminine at the same time. You look lovely in this outfit! :-)

  6. I have a lot of brown in my wardrobe, myself, but it's a colour I've only come to like later in life; my mom liked to dress me in blue, for some reason.

I've been enjoying the challenge, but wow, I would not want to wear only neutrals all the time. Next week, watch out, I'm getting into the orange.

Love this outfit, and I really love the pretty pink coat over the top of it. One of these days I must try belting a blazer; it looks really good on you.

  10. I love brown and wear it often, but what I really love is the color of that coat! Wow! My coats are all.... um.... brown. Wanna go shopping with me? I think I need to remove my brown-colored glasses!
