Friday Cowgirl and Casual Saturday

Friday I wore the last item from the Vintage Fair: this amazing skirt:
Yes, that is 6 inches of fringe on the bottom! Isn't that sweet?

Sorry about the lighting - it's getting dark in the mornings, and it was very gloomy and rainy on Friday. The colour of the skirt - that glorious true turquoise - is accurate there, though.

Vizzini loved the fringe. He kept trying to bite it. That's my short-sleeved red sweater I got recently, with my dark denim vest over it. Those are my dark brown Miz Mooz boots.

I couldn't get enough of the swooshiness of the fringe:
It made a lot of noise when I walked, because it hit against the top of the boots with every step. I thought it sounded like hail hitting against a roof.

For my outerwear, I did my white leather jacket:
My turquoise scarf and red fingerless gloves capped it off. I'm never worried about leather in the rain, and sure enough, my jacket was fine.

In case you can't tell from the pictures, the skirt is a really thick suede (much like this purple suede vest I have). I am sure it's from the 70s. Wanna know how much it was?
Score!

I get a huge kick out of vintage labels:
I left my finger in for scale. That is one honkin' huge label - at least 2 1/2 inches wide! Gee, I wonder where the skirt was made?

This label totally tickles me:
Ah! Check it out! The matching jacket is on sale on eBay! Would that not be an amazing outfit? Totally over the top.

The best is what's written on the label. It says, "Shell 100% top quality split cowhide, Genuine leather, Lining 100% Nylon imported from Japan. Caution: Some leather colors may crock (rub off) on light colored garments. Brushing and dry cleaning will eliminate most crocking. Clean by certified leather cleaner only. Pioneer Wear Inc. does not guarantee the work of any leather cleaner and cannot be responsible for their work. Ladies skirt."

Okay, I have a pretty big vocabulary, but I have never heard of "crocking" before, have you? I love that they don't guarantee the work of cleaners. Ha!

The stuff:
I did my "Western" accessories: my fab Shi Studio cowboy belt buckle and leather wrist wrap, as well as some silver charms on my necklace.

Vest (Bisou Bisou, consignment), sweater (Reitman's, thrifted), skirt (Pioneer Wear, vintage 70s, thrifted), boots (Miz Mooz), belt/cuff (Shi Studio), jacket (Le Chateau, consignment), scarf (Marks & Spencer, thrifted), gloves (Parkhurst).

Today, L and I went out to our favourite diner for brunch. I also mailed the last two sets of presents for Lorena and Christie from my birthday challenge! Exciting!

I went shopping after work with Lesley on Friday night. We hit the local Women in Need store, then went to Dots (I had a gift card from my Winesday gals!). I got this cute top at the WIN store:
It's got that nice rock & roll vibe that I like. I'm wearing a wine-coloured cami underneath it, since it's quite sheer and the neckline is on the cleavage-y side.

The pattern is irregular and is dark grey with silver on top. All the seaming is in black.
That's my double-slit skirt (first seen here), and my red Miz Mooz boots (good for walking to the post office).

The back:
I love when patterns carry around to the back.

I thought the top was a little pricey:
However, it's Calvin Klein Jeans, and it goes to a good cause, so I'm not going to quibble.

Tee (Calvin Klein Jean, thrifted), skirt (Bianca Nygard, thrifted), boots (Miz Mooz).

Is anyone else doing Megan's Fall Challenge: Fashion Trends? I am participating!

  1. I love unusual labels too, and I'd never heard of "crocking" before. Sounds dangerous.

Love your new fringey skirt, and your rock and roll long-sleeved tee. My kitties like to play with fringe too - bare legs, beware!

  2. I adore that bright blue skirt! It's so fun. Leather on leather in a fabulous way.

I also love how you can wear a tee, a maxi skirt, and boots and look so chic. The red boots were a brilliant choice (I'm also kicking myself for buying them in brown instead of red).

  3. Oh I forgot to mention "Crocking" just makes me think of "crock-potting".. Not sure if I'd want to stew a leather skirt for a long period of time.

  4. Crocking? Who knew?
I like the skirt though and I love those Miz Mooz boots are they new? I'd love to track down a pair for Fall.

  6. "Crocking" is when the surface finish of the leather breaks down, cracks, or rubs off. Word geek here . . .

  7. The teal skirt is rocking my world; I am also participating in Megan's Fall challenge. I can't wait to see what you come up with :).

  8. I'm a big fringe-fan so I love this skirt. And the white leather jacket is super.

Thanks for adding another new word to my fashion-vocabulary. Leather, as a material, has its own set of unique issues. I never wore leather before acquiring biker-gear and have since learned how it lasts and deteriorates.

  9. Patti, doesn't it? Ha! Thanks! Yes, I lost a piece of fringe due to Vizzini's sharp teeth.

Megan, isn't it awesome? I was so excited to find it. Aw, thanks, hon! I love doing fun casual looks.

Yeah, I think I'll leave the skirt out of the crock-pot for now. :-P

Hostess, I know! No, the Miz Mooz boots are from about 3 years ago - I found them at the Cobbler. Love their shoes.

    Ki, thank you!

Velma, one person who has heard of crocking! Well done!

Laniza, thanks! Awesome, I bet your looks will be great!

Ally, thanks! I love fringe too! I've collected so many leather and suede pieces over the last few years - I'm learning!

  12. Oh. My. Stars. That skirt is insanely wonderful!!! Gorgeous, fun ensemble. And yup, the fringe would not last an hour in my house. My felines would snatch it bald within a few minutes...
(but even they would stop and have a chuckle at those labels!)
And is "crocking" anything like "planking"?

  13. Love the skirt-the color and the fringe-with 4 kitties, I don't think that skirt would make it out of my house alive, lol. I also love your vests, I am a big fan of vests, I always think it pulls outfits together even if they are a lot more casual than yours.

Those red boots are just delicious.

  15. Rita, thanks! I had so much fun wearing it! Ha!

    Interwebs Fails - thanks!

Lesa, thank you, hon! Yeah, I have to hang it high so my little kitten doesn't eat all the fringe off! I adore vests! Keep wearing them!

Debbie, thank you so much for reading and commenting!
