Crazy Week...and Cutting Back

Things have been - and continue to be - a little nutty for me...and so I'm going to cut back on the number of posts I put up per week. From 5-6, I might only be doing 4 or so. Who knows? It might be more (or less). Anyway, please know how grateful I am to those of you who read and view and comment. I know I haven't been around much and it's not due to lack of wanting to; I just haven't had the time.

That said, here are yesterday's and today's outfits!

My WW-friendly outfit: My fuscia blouse (last seen here, as part of my Hallowe'en costume) and my trusty sweater vest (last seen here), along with a skirt that I picked up on the weekend. Isn't it fab?

Check it out: The hem swoops down at the back - this has amazing movement when you walk.

It's by my favourite local company, Smoking Lily:
Those pinks stripes of fabric are all the inside seams: the hem and the inside waistband. Awesome!

And, of course, it was a bargain!
I love thrift shopping! $9 is such a score, considering their skirts start at around $150 (all handmade).

The stuff:
My sandals are all getting a good wearing - this is the first appearance of these since last August (here).

The sparkly bits:
Pretty.

Blouse (Esprit, consignment), vest (Esprit), skirt (Smoking Lily, thrifted), shoes (Jones New York, consignment), necklace (consignment), earrings (Jacob).

Today, I really needed my armour, so I wore a lot of colour, featuring this amazing dress that I found in another thrift store:
It's by Planet (a very expensive UK line that's sold at the Bay in Canada), and I remember seeing this in the local store about a year or two ago. It's silk and would have sold originally for aroung $300.

Mine? $20.50. Score! And I think it's only been worn maybe once. I bet someone bought it for a summer wedding (it has that look, doesn't it?) and then never wore it again. That pinky-purple colour with the yellow/lime dots is a tough combo to wear with accessories.

Here it is without my yellow cardi:
It has a beautiful seam just under the bust and it hangs perfectly. It's all bias-cut and wonderfully flowy. It'll be a great summer dress.

The outside shot:
I went with gold shoes to keep it neutral. It also looked great with the purple flat sandals I had on when I was shopping.

The stuff:
A better look at the pattern there, and the lovely purple lining and satin trim around the neck and arms.

A close-up:
That's actually a better look at the colour of it too.

Dress (Planet, thrifted), shoes (Aldo, consignment), cardigan (no label, consignment), ring (Guess), earrings (thrifted).

  1. I'll be happy just so long as you're still here! I've lost a lot of my favorite blogs in the past few months. Life happens, and the blog world will still be here when you have time.

That skirt is lovely. It has an awesome cut to it. I bet it's a fun spinning skirt. Some seriously jaw-dropping at your thrifting finds. Great job! The pinky-purple dress looks fabulously breezy. I love the silver shoes with it.

Also I totally just meant to ask you via email, but how do your Fluevog Memories run size wise? There's a pair I've been in lust with on ebay for a low starting bid, but I know Fluevog families seem to run different from one another and wanted to get your opinion.

  2. Needed armour? Hope everything is going ok for you! (My life is looking up right now - or at least I'm enjoying a lull before another storm - thanks for commenting!). I do find it interesting that the look is very feminine, which is not what I was expecting when you said "armour". Then again, armour is no good unless it fits well!

I love that first skirt! I'll still stick around even if you're around a little less!

  3. Sheila, I was wondering where you went! I always love your ideas and accessories. I particularly love your skirt in the first set of pictures, I have a similar one, but never get a chance to wear it. That is why I post so sporadically, since I am not working, it seems to be all jeans for me.

Book recommendation: A State of Wonder by Ann Patchett only half way through-mystery on the Amazon

  4. Mornin' Sheila, I can completely understand the desire/need to cut back a bit on posting. You'll be missed, but the treat will be that much greater when you do! LOVE the Smoking Lily skirt in the first pics!!! Great find, and looks amazing on you! Take care, Teresa

  5. Sheila - I have been amazed at your productivity! And I applaud your taking care of other priorities too. (Life isn't just blogging??? : >

Both outfits are stunning, and made more so by your accessorizing. The yellow cardi over the dress = fab.

And you get the thrifting award again today!

  6. The design of that skirt is amazing. I'm mesmerized by it.

And, btw, you post more frequently than other bloggers I follow and your posts are all rich in content. Scaling back is fine with us. You're still way ahead of everyone else.

  8. Love those T-strap shoes! I'm a sucker for T-straps. Also, love how that cardigan made that dress pop. I'm sorry to see you have to cut back, but I'm thrilled you are not giving up! Hope things settle down a bit for you; best wishes.

  9. Hey, I think being busy is a good thing right?? I will miss seeing you everyday though. You have been so inspirational for me. I love the new skirt and the new dress, so dreamy. I love the color and pattern. I love it when you find something for such a great price and realize that it cost a fortune new. I just found a Ralph Lauren linen skirt that I loved but passed up at the thrift store and amazingly it was still there the next week. I snapped it up for $5.99 and found it for sale on Ebay last night and it sold for $58.99 in that auction. I hope that some of your busy stuff is fun stuff!!

  10. I love that skirt! I remember coveting it in Smoking Lily. You have the best luck finding thrifted items from there.

  13. Just yesterday I was in Megan Mae's blog telling her that you and her are soo much alike - it's like twins on different eras - does that make sense ? You guys even have the same Fluevog - interests !
Like you I really like to look at the details in clothes like the seams in your skirt, even thought nobody sees them it makes me happy to see they are there even if it just for me :)

  14. The skirt is just wonderful! I've cut back to blogging just three times a week and actually that routine fits with the rest of my life better.

  15. I'm amazed you've managed to post so much for so long - you're always rushing from thing to thing! I increased my hours from 20 to 30 a week and have failed completely to blog consistently since then, so I bow down to the fact you've managed so well for so long!

Like others have said, I'm just glad you're not going altogether - I'd really miss you, I count you as an " online friend"!

  16. Megan, thank you. Three plus years is a long time to be blogging, and I feel like I just need to slow down a bit. I love the skirt too - so many great thrift items out there! Caught your question via email earlier this week. :)

Cara, it's all right - just tough and I'm feeling in need of a "fake it till you feel it" push, you know? Glad things are looking up for you too. Thank you for sticking around. :)

Lesa, sorry, hon, it's just been nutty. Thank you for the book recommendation!

Teresa, thank you. I'll still be posting, just not as much for a bit.

Patti, aw, thank you! I have so much going on right now.

Ally, thank you so much for your kind words. It's been a tough few months and I'm just needing to hunker down and get through it.

Pam, thank you - it is! Good luck with the wedding.

Jude, thanks, me too. I'll still be here, no worries.

Alison, it's good. Thank you so much! So glad you got your thrift find!

Rachel, how cool - I never see stuff like this in their stores.

    Rebecca, thank you!

    Sal, it's all right, thanks!

Lorena, aw, that's really sweet, thank you. I love the details in things - that's what makes them special.

Terri, I noticed you had as well. I hope this won't be permanent.

Tat, thank you! Yeah, I always have a lot going on...
