I Get Back Up Again - A Musical Interlude

I've had that old Chumbawamba song going through my head all day. You know, THAT one - it's right up there with "The Logdriver's Waltz" (oh come on, you know you want to watch it) for being an insidious earworm.

Anyway, I felt a lot better today. As Cat at Thrifty Muse reminded me in yesterday's comments, I once said a couple of years ago, "When you're feeling sad and blue, wear a dress." So I did.My Banana Republic dress (last worn here) that I bought two years ago in Vancouver with Ruth, AND my Fluevogs that I bought on the same trip. Worn those lots of times - they're actually getting worn out!

My Noa Noa wrap cardi on top (last seen here): "Yes, my sleeves are big, what of it?"

The stuff:
Nothing terribly exciting.

My cuff and earrings:
Blurry...was in a hurry.

Dress (Banana Republic), cardigan (Noa Noa), shoes ("Ivanna Listen Up", Fluevog), cuff (St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop), necklace (Plum), earrings (Aldo Accessories).

  1. I'm ashamed to call myself a Canadian and NOT be familiar with the logging vignette.
Also, I tend to not use internet abbreviations, but LMAO... "When you're feeling sad and blue, wear a dress". Sheila, never lose your sense of wit!! I love the colour combination!

  4. I missed a couple of days and what! I'm sorry about the job. Even if you do your best not to get your hopes up, you do anyway (at least I do)...

    Loved your Halloween costume!
Too bad they don't celebrate it here. There is "purim" in the spring but it's mostly for kids and not as ghostly and witchy as Halloween, which I absolutely love!

  5. Fabulous fluevogs. I love the saying too. Maybe I need to find me some more dresses.

  6. Cara, you bad girl! That's a Canadian iconic video! My little saying goes to the same tune as "When you're happy and you know it, clap your hands." Thanks!

That's the plan, 'Doll - thanks!

    Wendy, well, get on that!

Tanya, I know, it's just a complete heap of rubbish. Thanks so much! I hope you get to dress up a bit for purim.

    Wendy, thanks! Me too.

Megan, thanks - dresses are alway good.

  7. Excellent sartorial self-care advice, Sheila. I shall remember.

Also, I, too, missed a couple of days and am sorry to hear the job didn't happen. A few years ago, as I contemplated the disastrous academic job market, a friend suggested I start a rejection letter file, and burn it when I got a job. I did maintain the file, and woman, it got thick. But every rejection became more awesome fuel for the bonfire I'd promised myself at the end.

Maybe something like this strategy might become yet another means of dragging yourself through this difficult time?

Either way, that sucketh. I can't believe they made you do 5 freaking interviews before the rejection. Sucktastica.

That said, your big sleeves and Bada$$ fluevogs are hot, hot, hot!

  8. Thanks, A-Dubs.

I used to save my rejection letters from publishing (I've been a writer off and on for years), but it got too depressing. I'm trying to focus on the positive, look at this as a fresh start.

  9. It's good advice, to wear a dress when you're blue - it looks wonderful. Hope you are feeling a little better. I once was interviewed for a job I really wanted desperately by a panel of five people including the boss. The boss fell asleep about two minutes in. The interview sort of stuttered along for 15 minutes...it was excrutiating. (He even snored a little. We all pretended that it wasn't happening.) I didn't get the job either and was not fit for decent company for a week. Anyway, you look regally lovely in purple and I admire your spirit!

  11. Thanks, Baxter. I'm all right...taking it one day at a time - really, that's all you can do. Oh no, what an awful experience for you!

  12. Yay for that dress and the Noa Noa cardi wrap - think they work perfect, even if in Sheila world its not that exciting :)
