A Hot Mess? And Memory Fails Again

I got some interesting reactions to today's outfit. From my boss, "Oh, Sheila's all fancy!" to my husband, "I don't like it." I'll stick a poll at the end and let you decide.

First, here we go:
I spotted this skirt at Dots a couple of weeks ago - a big section of Noa Noa samples (some crazy stuff, like lace-trimmed pantaloons!) that they're clearing out.

I think it will be groovy underneath another skirt (it flattens out well - I could even do it under a slim skirt and have the ruffles peeking out), but the lining is thick enough for me to wear it on its own.
Of course, I had to wear my granny-boots with it! And then the vest just seemed very "Little House on the Prairie", then the bigass flower to bring that little Victorian touch, and the satin blouse to calm it down a bit.

What satin blouse, you may ask? (Edit: minus the jacket, this is what the top half of this outfit should have looked like. Here's a shot of just the blouse.)

Ah, right, the one I left hanging in the closet when I packed my clothes last night! This is not good, people! I think I am losing my mind! First I forget my top altogether, and now I'm left with a cami and a vest all day.

Fortunately, I think I got away with it this time. I only told two people and no one commented on my lack of sleeves. Also, the HVAC in our building was busted all day and it became sweltering, so my timing couldn't have been better!

Anyway, I am going to keep an eye on the Noa Noa samples, because the quality is just fabulous. There's a crazy long jacket that I might have to go back for - and this stuff is not to everyone's taste, so I think it will be marked down further...that's what Dots does!

I took a picture of the tag, because the whole buying process that stores and boutiques do fascinates me (I used to be a buyer for a store I worked at):
This skirt would have sold for $150 retail in Canada (but I got it for $34.99 - and an extra 20% off! - score!). It would have come in salt, farm, grain, bleach and carpet. What colours do you suppose farm and carpet are?

The stuff:
Trying to get a few more wears out of my boots before we get full-on spring.

This is my new leather cuff:
It's stamped "Catalyst Reaction Leather" inside. It was on clearance at one of my favourite gift shops for $9.99. I love the little grey planes and the dark green stripes.

Oh, and one more detail about the skirt:
Teeny metal buttons on the waistband. Now, that's amazing - metal!

Okay, I promised a poll:
Okay, whaddaya think?
L is right, it's a hot mess
Nah, I'm with the boss: fancy!
I like it...but the blouse would have helped
I love it just as it is
Heh, she said "bigass" again
I like polls, all clicky-clicky buttons and voting and the whatnot

  3. I like everything except the boots. Well, I like the boots, but not with that outfit.

  4. I like fancy, but that's just me.

I can't get over the flower detail either. I just love it.

  7. I must recommend Lumosity.com it's a brain games and training site. Some of the games are free others you can try through a free trial period.
That being said... this set looks artistic... like you are a poetry writer...

  8. That was a tough vote. I voted for where is the cat because I love gratuitous pet photos.

But, I think I would have liked the outfit better with sleeves and maybe tights... Not sure. Something about the skirt and granny boots needed "more." It definitely is not a hot mess. Maybe Fancy. Heck, I like polls, can I vote again and just ckick the buttons?

  9. I'm so jealous of your Noa Noa source! I've never been able to find it here. I love this outfit, but think a little black on the top half would have made it just that much better.

  10. Thanks, Lesa! Heh, you know, you can vote more than once.

Megan, thanks - I wish I'd remembered the blouse, but oh well.

Thanks, Kimberly - I can appreciate that. Thanks also for commenting!

Jenny, hee, me too. I love the bigass flower.

    Aw, thanks, Jane!

    Thanks, Kasmira, isn't it cool?

Sal, it's an awesome store. I missed it so much on my no-new ban last year.

Lorena, it's not actually my memory (but thank you!), but that I'm distracted on Tuesday nights because we have a bunch of people over for gaming, and I'm trying to put together and outfit and pack it without being rude and ignoring them. I need to do better pre-planning and packing on Tuesdays! Thank you so much - I AM a poetry writer! :)

Lain, you can vote more than once in my polls. Inigo was done eating so he wasn't in the room with me. Yeah, the blouse would have been good (I've updated to add a link with a similar outfit, as well as a picture of the blouse itself). The tights were "leg" coloured, so they don't show.

Audi - I totally thought of you! Especially when I saw the pantaloons. Yeah, I know - the blouse is a dark brown satin. It would have looked great. *sigh*

  11. I'm going to confess, it's not my favorite outfit of yours, but that's more personal preference than because you look bad or anything. The skirt is just a little too out-there for me.
That said, I really like the tank and vest together; it shoes off your impressive guns! :)

  12. Eh, it's okay, Kristen - it would have been slightly better with the blouse! Thanks so much!
